Short form, tagging is a courtesy because you are not required to put tags in a post before you put it out there.
I am not tagging this post, and it will not be stopped.
That does not cancel out that there should be tags for posts. That some users are harmed by untagged shit.
You can be harmed, and it sucks, it hurts.
But you being hurt doesnt change that individual blog owners can set their own limits on what they deem acceptable on their blog with or without a tag.
Like, i could follow a bug blog. I wouldnt expect them to tag every spider post with arachnids
It would be NICE but they arent forced to.
That is a social courtesy that they do. Same as when somebody gets on the bus you sit up, and give them your chair (if say old, pregnant, disabled, ect ect ect)
Its just something done to be nice that we can acknowledge is that, and that people should tag more, so others can avoid things that upset them
Idk man I'm not against porn, I like porn, but nsfw is against the Tumblr TOS. And there's a big difference between artistic nudity / properly tagged stuff and some of the extreme kink bs that gets posted on here. Like.. Have all the fantasies you want, but this site DOES have an algorithm, and if you're not tagging things reliably, someone who does not consent to your shit is gonna see it. And they're entirely within their rights to report something that isn't allowed on the site.
It's just so wild to me that PROSHIPPERS of all people are out here saying "tagging is a courtesy" as if rigorous content warnings and tag systems aren't the backbone of the community. The entire argument of why it's okay to create/enjoy fucknasty things is that you say in the tin that it's fucknasty so people can choose if they want to engage with it. How is anyone supposed to curate their experiences when the tools they use are taken from them? Especially on a site where all the tagging is below the post in question, so even if you do have some incredibly garbled or niche tag, the damage is already done for some folks.
I'm sex positive. I am a kinkster. I enjoy some fucknasty things in my relationships and in my fiction. I also have sexual trauma, and I shouldn't have to cower in fear because other people aren't playing by the same rules. I mean arguably people who post self harm imagery are also not hurting anyone by what they post and are just expressing themselves, but they don't belong here either, because some content DOES NOT BELONG ON TUMBLR as it stands. That's just what Tumblr is now. People can post hole somewhere else where it isn't against the rules.
If you wanna post hole on the no-hole website, someone is eventually going to flag you for it, whether it's manual reporting or automated ones. Maybe they should just like... Move to a hole-friendly website. Or tag their crap better so the most I see is "this post was filtered because it contains hole". But y'all can't expect to come to a website that says "no xyz" and be surprised when you get in trouble for posting xyz. You can take the gamble, I follow nsfw accounts who DO tag their content rigorously (and have not been banned or even filtered from search results, ironically, despite their more extreme content taking up about 10-15% of my filtered tags), but you gotta acknowledge that it's a gamble. But I'm a lot less likely to report on site if I don't see it in the first place.
Brain foggy so this was a chore to get through.
But also i do want to point out this WAS.
This WAS THE POST HOLE SITE. FOR A LONG ASS TIME.
So many left in the mass Exodus when tumblr decided to shift its policies. But for the longest time this WAS. post hole place. And maybe, maybe the past doesnt matter anymore, because this site has become a cesspool of censorship among groups it doesn't like. (Sex workers, trans people, ace people. You remember when people were being banned over images that too many beige tones? Pidge fuckin remembers)
Or members that do tag properly.
But here is the also a thing as a proshipper that can also be true, because i Support people writing what they want.
Tagging is a courtesy. And while i wish it was a lot more common, the average tumblr user owes you (anon and general) nothing.
A blog owner does not owe you tags. It would be fantastic if people tagged everything, but they dont, nor can some people able to REMEMBER.
But anon, im saying this particular part with as much sympathy and love i have,
-But peoples conflicting needs, are not an attack.-
On top of that, from what I've seen, some blogs actually have in their bio or something like (ask to tag, doesnt tag, something poetic about not tagging with too many japanese emojis)
Now let me focus on artistic nudity vs kink. Yes, we (royal) see a difference between a painting of aphrodite in her scallop rising from the ocean with her tits out and some guro.
Which- we have labels for... (Even if it's just so Tumblr can flag it and remove it)
But its a shitty policy. Because frankly, why should an oil canvas piece get more respect then a digital artist drawing a character in a similar static pose with their tits out.
*inhales*
It is a gamble.
Its a gamble being on a public site thats culture (which is odd to say) shifted and you went from us older users who and this might just be me, cheered every October seeing the guy fuck a pumpkin, to then having it shift so those users left, and got replaced with a bunch of younger pearl clutchers.
Its frustrating anon, and its not your fault, its not even tumblrs fault really. They were just doing shit to not get kicked from the app store. (And all their staff issues.)
And i hope you find more people that tag their stuff. People SHOULD tag sensitive topics. But, it is unfortunate, a courtesy.
Tagging is not mandatory. Regardless of yours or i's feeling. Tumblr urges its users to post with tags now, but nothing is stopping random user from making hole, then slapping the post button and you stumbling into it. And that SUCKS but thats how things ARE.
And while i get there is some sort of algorithm, tumblr is largely who you follow combined with say features like 'based on your likes'.
But i feel like I'm rambling. This is kinda why ive been away from tumblr and been on aethy. The moderation and filtering are way better.
Hmmm...thing is, it's a super vague policy. Tagging is a courtesy, and plenty of people do...and then get punished for it. Because the policy is so vague, they could think they're in bounds of the TOS, tag so people can find or avoid as they like, and then suddenly either find themselves cut off from everyone else or their blog is gone altogether.
Also, saying that people who post NSFW and get banned or shadowbanned deserve it, then brag about how you follow NSFW blogs that aren't shadowbanned and "tag properly" is super weird...do they show up on your dashboard, anon? Or do you have to actively go to their blog to see posts? Because shadowbanned blogs don't show up in search or their followers' dash, but you can still see posts if you go to the blog, and they can still receive asks.
Ever send an ask to one of those blogs, and then not realize it got answered? You don't see it till you go to their blog the next time, and maybe you got a ghost note, or maybe didn't get a note at all? That's because the blog you sent it to was shadowbanned.
Also, spite-reporting someone because you don't like what they posted? When you could have hit the block button? Yeah, proshippers are all about curating our own experiences, and that means blocking people who make you uncomfortable, not try to nuke them from orbit for posting something you didn't like.
I am reposting the whole thing here with names uncensored because these people do not deserve to be on Archive of Our Own. My blood pressure is rising just thinking about this. I am honestly enraged on behalf of the original writer who has now been bullied into deleting their work AND posting a fucking apology on Ao3 talking about how they wish they had never written it and what were they thinking and promising to never write anything like that again and hating themself. There is an idiom in my mother tongue that goes something like my heart is being bathed in blood and i can't find a better expression for this shit show. I don't know how old the original writer is but they do not deserve this. No one deserves this.

Summary:
Recently there have been some explicit posts under the Jacksonâs diary tag and it has caused some controversy so I just want to say some things on it. If this is offensive to anyone I will take it down,
Work Text:
Recently there have been some explicit posts under the Jacksonâs diary tag and it has caused some controversy so I just want to say some things on it
1. Most characters in the JD universe are minors, and so is majority of the fandom. I know some people are saying that it doesnât matter and people donât have to read the works but when people start to post these things it makes other people think itâs ok and more people will start posting things like this, and as this is a small fandom everybody sort of knows each other and it will cause more controversy and make people uncomfortable. Also, aging characters up by 1 year purely for smut is still sexualising children.
2. People are also complaining that we are âbabying the charactersâ from Jacksonâs diary, and I just want to say that while it isnât unrealistic to say that 17 year olds have sex (because a lot of them do,) the way I see it is that in small fandoms if the creator of the WEBTOON wouldnât write about it, then donât write about it. Small fandom creators tend to be more involved in the fandom, and while the ao3 guidelines do say that itâs allowed, it doesnât make it right.
3. Also, if someone says that what youâve written is wrong and they can explain why, take it down. And donât bring up the guidelines because itâs about basic human morality. The person who wrote the fanfiction that started this controversy has handled this very well, so please donât harass them, but also if you plan on writing a fanfiction that youâre not sure if it will be appropriate then ASK. Nobodyâs going to attack you for it, and if they do then thereâre being unreasonable.
This isnât targeted in any way. This is more for people who plan to write fanfics for Jacksonâs diary in the future. If anyone has a problem with this I will take it down. If you choose to ignore this and post smut for this fandom anyway, be prepared for backlash from other people in the fandom, I recommend turning off comments. This isnât intended to be disrespectful. Thanks for taking time to read this

I don't know what this piece of media is but like how do these people survive the real fucking word if they can't handle a smut fanfiction that they can literally just SCROLL PAST
Like no one forced them to look at it? There was no one with a fucking clockwork orange eye machine holding their eyes open lmao what a bunch of losers
It's just baffling. They're so pro-censorship. I don't understand how it got THIS bad. Just ignore it if you don't like it! But you don't get to tell people to not write or read what they want to write or read. That's how it's been for years. The fact that these people are SO gung-ho on censorship and anti-sexual content is just...it's weird. It's just more 'BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN' conservative rhetoric.
So apparently it's now adultism to have a fan instance that is very heavy on porn to be adult-only.
No. Fuck that, fuck you. It is ABSOLUTELY not safe for them to be on Aethy.
It is perfectly okay to want to be in an instance with mixed adult and minor audiences. I think it's a good thing for communities to build across ages.
But having adult-only spaces is NOT a bad thing. Wanting to be in an adult-only space is NOT a bad thing.
Reason Number I've-Lost-Count about why I disagree with YouthLib, because apparently keeping children safe is wrong to them.
Not to be bitchy about youthlib, but I just file takes like that under the generic category of âTumblr fighting a lack of nuance (in this case legitimately problematic social structures that excessively deny kids autonomy) with an equal and opposite lack of nuanceâ.
idk why people are having so much trouble with this:
kids need spaces for them and their peers. as a whole and for different age ranges
everyone benefits from (and arguably needs) mixed spaces where community can build across generations and we can learn from each other
adults need adult-only spaces (and no not just nsfw/porn stuff, but general spaces that are kid-free) for the same reason kids need kid-only spaces
keeping kids out of nsfw-heavy spaces is important. like idc if some teen sees a boob (drawn or real) and tbh pretending that sex doesn't exist is both impossible and may do more damage to their development. but should minors be in the same space as a bunch of horny adults ?? NO OBVIOUSLY NOT I HOPE YOU CAN SEE WHY THAT IS A BAD IDEA
there's your nuance. we need different spaces for different things. don't put kids in a space full of horny adults and don't pretend that sex isn't a thing, especially if you're a parent and your kid is going through puberty and asking questions.
So apparently it's now adultism to have a fan instance that is very heavy on porn to be adult-only.
No. Fuck that, fuck you. It is ABSOLUTELY not safe for them to be on Aethy.

Iâm pro youth lib and let me just say that if anyone claims that wanting an adults only đ space is âadultismâ , then theyâve misunderstood what adultism even means
Today's aesthetic: people who are like "this anime could have been good if it weren't for one specific detail that totally ruins it", and then that one specific detail is, like, the thematic foundation of the show's core premise.
This ânormal personâ set up a proship bait account, pretends to date a 12 year old as an adult and gave themselves away as a bad troll when they failed to define proship
Even as a joke, pretending to date minors to âown the proshittersâ is not the gotcha they think it is
âyou shouldnât care about the bad situation that those people are in bc if you were in that same situation they wouldnât care about what happened to you at allâ how about you go fuck yourself
This might be a bit disjointed, so please bear with me.
I joined Aethy right before all the shit went down, and I didn't really catch everything that happened. So I didn't really pay it much thought. And since then, it's been pretty peaceful on there.
So when I unexpectedly found your criticisms of the site and its mod, I was a bit taken aback. But now that I have a better idea of what transpired, I would like to hear more of your side of the story.
What I've gathered so far is that one user (who I will refer to as "C") asked Aethy's moderator (henceforth "T") to clarify their rules around reposting art, to which T gave a vague half-answer. C, as well as other users such as yourself, kept pushing for more clarification, both on that matter and on others (like why they had defederated from certain other Mastodon instances). T did not take kindly to this, and they lashed out. Eventually you, C, and others established the Asteroid M instance, and T defederated Aethy from Asteroid M and suspended the accounts of those associated with it, including you and C.
I'm also considering asking T to clarify their side of the story, but based on what I've seen, I'm afraid they will likewise not take kindly to my request.
Thank you for your time.

Hi, I wasn't directly involved in the situation you're describing - for that you'd wanna talk to @unkillablemonsterqueen or @last-knight-who-was - but I also had other reasons to dislike Taullo: mainly, they seemed to be a bit of a cop, allowed spurious allegations (but only against people they dislike), and seems to have some anti-leaning views.
how people react to the content you create is NOT your responsibility
if you create fictional content that..
Squicks people out
Triggers people
Portrays immoral acts in a positive light
Romanticises immoral acts
Contains depictions of illegal acts
then it is not your responsibility if people have a negative reaction to such topics.
What is your responsibility is using tags, trigger warnings, and content warnings on the content you create.
And that goes both ways.
It is also your responsibility to filter tags, and keep in mind trigger/ content warnings.
If you are old enough to be on the internet, you are old enough to curate your online experience.
Creators, fanfiction writers, artists, and other creative people are not here to
parent you
Inform your morals
Educate you about laws
And curate your experience for you.
It is not victim blaming for simply stating that other people's interpretations, morals, messages, and information that they receive from your content is not your responsibility.
Because again,
THAT IS YOUR YOURS! THAT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!
