Hi guys. It’s been a while…

TLDR: I plan to drop the game before June if I manage to kill my fomo and impulse but I’d like to continue to engage with Caleb’s character as a separate entity from what Infold do with him. (He’s basically becoming my OC LOL) This way I don’t have to support dynamics I don’t like and still get to enjoy my comfort character.

I missed posting on here a bit but between all the bull shit Infold has been throwing towards us without trigger warnings as well as rlly oddly behaved Infold dickriders, I just thought I’d let you know how I personally feel and how I am going to cope with this situation.

I’ve made it abundantly clear of course, that I don’t stand for incest or view it as romantic and that I don’t view Caleb as a brother to my mc. (I’m South Asian, I literally couldn’t if I wanted to)

However… I still really adore Caleb and think his previous cards, writing, characterisation etc are beautiful. The new year banner I was willing to ignore because it was an AU and I believed it wouldn’t occur again.

BUT Caleb’s 3rd myth is here now and they’ve reduced calebmc’s cosmic twin-flame bond into a predatory and infantilising dynamic. (Especially with that inclusion of the article Caleb sends you that places emphasis on “siblings in mythology”) it’s hard to chalk that up to just bad translation and loss of nuance because of English language and not intentional choice.

I really don’t like the usage of “baby sister” and how it’s not used to encapsulate what “Gege” means but rather bastardise it for the benefit of fans who support a problematic dynamic. Also white ppl in general being really weird to Chinese players about their own language.

I’m fine with uncomfortable and dark media but this is fundamentally a self-insert romance game. I don’t want to self insert into abuse. There’s a fine line between just including dark topics and romanticising the problematic. By default lads is doing the latter by reducing calebmc to this. Following this I will likely try to sell my account before June which is when his next bday banner will happen. Not confirmed but likely. Message me if you’re interested.

As for how I cope with this situation, it’s like I said, I really enjoyed Caleb’s previous writing up until this turn. I can’t see myself switching to another LI as too much of my time/money has gone into this. This new content also feels really out of character to me for Caleb so, because of that I am deciding to mentally separate Caleb from LADS to keep my original perception of him intact.

I plan to screen record older paid content and other things I liked, save glints of my mc’s outfits etc, so that my money doesn’t feel wasted. This way I can kind of keep my sanity whilst still enjoying him and talking about him. This way I also don’t have to engage with any further incestuous content I dislike, and can continue my discussions around him from a safe and romantic perspective.

I won’t be be very active in playing the game and supporting his new content, especially given this turn. I’m not engaging with his 3rd myth and hopefully not his future main story when I decide to drop the game. For me this is a way I can enjoy him and enjoy the romantic elements of him without directly supporting Infold and this inclusion of incest.

Tbh as a result of this I can’t see it likely that I’ll discuss new content for the other LI’s also, but when I drop I may keep up with them on YouTube as I still want to engage and interact with the safe side of this fandom.

I honestly refuse to let a character I spent so much money on be ruined for me.

And what if rap WAS only about sex, violence, and drugs... what then? Would you be justified in looking down upon it as not being "real" art? What would your justification be? Sex is immoral and taboo? Drugs should never be mentioned outside of D.A.R.E programs? Songs about violence turn children to it? Would you turn that standard to other genres as well? I know you wouldn't, I know you haven't, because it's never really been about the topics explored.

BUT! You better believe he will be standing in line begrudgingly trying to score some limited edition merch of your favorite love interest

When he finds out you're playing a dating sim, he's totally cool about it (plotting to blow up their servers as we speak)

He's actually used to you playing dating sims since you would play them all the time growing up

Embarrassingly enough he used to try and emulate the characters you favored when you were younger

You like to tease him whenever the two of you have a minor disagreement by saying, “but he would never do this to me!”

Will ask about the characters occasionally like they're your real friends

He's not really jealous. He knows they're not real and would never actually compare to him, but-

You're cozied up in bed, head resting on his shoulder, playing through the game’s story while he reads a book when you come to a realization

“You know he kind of reminds me of Cal-”

He sets down his book and slips the phone out of your hand. “Looking at a blue screen before bed is bad for your health.”

caleb is the type of guy who gives you his first-found diamonds in minecraft and then nearly pees himself laughing when you fall into lava by accident or get killed by a mob. the smile only fades when you actually get upset at him, but there’s no flower he can’t use to fix things.

dude wasn’t lying when he said he wanted you to always rely on him, and that includes the virtual world. you don’t even have to lift a finger in the game, just chill and expand your farm, and he’ll provide you with every item in ridiculous amounts.

and then he gets jealous when you’d rather play than cuddle with him on the couch.

none of your worlds ever last longer than a week or two, because at some point caleb starts kissing you while you’re trying to build a cute farm, and he becomes unbearable about the lack of attention and affection.
