Ah, he always hated when subjects chose to act difficult.
He never expected perfect and incomparable service, but he did suppose he expected something that was a… little bit less than that.
“Ugh,” simple noise of displeasure seized out of body, nearly causing for Mayuri’s now displayed scowl to deepen even further. Agreements and disagreements– it seemed that none of that civil process mattered to the other, and the Twelfth couldn’t say he necessarily blamed him. Despite that, however, he still found it to be, at best, mildly irritating. “It’s no wonder… hmph, you are a lot like him, after all, and I hesitate to draw comparisons between two, completely different things.”
Who was he speaking of? He wouldn’t disclose unless asked.
The scientist fell silent for but a moment (he definitely needed a second to himself. to contemplate and to consider.) before he gave a hefty roll of the eyes. Teeth continued to bare in their scowl, Mayuri finding himself clasping his hands tightly within one another.
“If I were to have permission to study the Ōin, do you think I would be here right at this moment?” inquisitive tone could not properly deceive, shamelessly exposing mockeries and letting it rise to the surface. The way he spoke almost seemed to imply he expected him to know this already. “I may be one of the few – though, I could be as bold as to say just the – beings in this blasted place in possession of a brain, but even I cannot be near such sensitive and delicate items of interest.”
Even if he could easily bypass the security measures… Mayuri found it a worthless endeavor. Too many routes meant a numerous potential for it to blow up in his face and, thus, prove him wrong.
“Allow me to simplify this…”
One hand removed itself from its own clutches to tenderly rub at his temples.
“The Ōin is not sentient. I cannot simply request permission from it, no matter how many times and ways I could and would try. You, however,” he paused to point directly at him, “are capable of consenting.”
“If you mean Hitsugaya we’re not that similar.” Same powers, abilities drawn from the same place in such a way it had been considered criminal. That, he thought, was where the similarities ended. Toshiro was kind where Kusaka was not, warm where he was cold, soft where he was hard. To him there was no real comparison, if only because to do so would insult someone he felt was simply better. Then again perhaps this awful captain was talking about someone entirely different. Kusaka didn’t care enough to ask for clarification.
He can see palpably that he’s starting to piss the other off, and whilst that is not ideal Kusaka is an unwavering sort. It is not so easy to change the mind of one like him, even when faced with discomfort such as that presented by Mayuri. Extracting something he did not wish to give would be painful-- perhaps more so for Kusaka, but certainly it would be a pain in the ass for Mayuri. Very little was easy when it came to this young man.
“I’m perfectly aware of what the Ōin is and is not.” His understanding of it was deep, enough for him to know what he could and could not use it for. But ah, such things were pointless here. It was not something he had interest in any longer. “However I am equally capable of not consenting, and as I say I’m not agreeing to anything being done to me.”
