You see the thing is. You have to be incredibly obnoxious on tumblr every once in a while for the exact same reason some people shoot a gun into the air in their backyard every month or so. Keeps the follower count down.
perfect lil spot
I don’t really get excited about mushroom hunting until late in the summer, when the boletes start to dominate the forest floor. I’m quite enamored of these big, showy, full-bodied mushrooms, which - yes, I admit it - possess a certain phallic intensity. The violet-gray bolete (Tylopilus plumbeoviolaceus), shown in the last three photos, is a personal favorite of mine; it bursts forth from the ground in the most wonderful shade of purple, only to turn chocolate brown as it ages. The common puffball (Lycoperdon perlatum) and yellow Caesar (Amanita banningiana) are also prevalent in the local woods at this time of year and quite lovely in their own rights.
