THE MUSE

Name: Senketsu (Senketsu Matoi for whenever someone demands a surname in a human form)

Age: Technically, as a science experiment, less than a decade. Mentally a young adult.

Gender: Again, technically an alien life form and sometimes a walking skirt, but leans male for convenience. He/him.

Orientation: Ryukosexual Something that includes women, he didn't exactly have time to figure that one out.

Canon storyline (Kill la Kill): A kamui (godrobe) created by Isshin Matoi with the explicit purpose of being worn by Isshin's daughter Ryuko Matoi. Which Senketsu very much did, doing his best to aid her in battles and protect her to the best of his (considerable) abilities. Became her friend (and something more) in the process, evolved, learned to have emotions, free will and decide his own appearance. Fell apart because of power overload in the finale and spent his last remaining strength to get Ryuko back into the atmosphere, in which his physical body burned to ashes. Some part of his consciousness, however, is implied to maybe still be up there.

Abilities per canon: Life-Fiber synchronization, morphing parts of his synchronized form as he evolves (blades, flying).

Non-canon storyline for this blog only: Suspend your disbelief entirely and just believe me when I say that having nothing better to do and missing his time on Earth (and his partner in particular) terribly, he spent a few years (Earth time) collecting stray life fibers drifting in space after their defeat. Upon gathering just enough to fashion himself a new body which will survive the impact, he returned on Earth, having no idea how much time has passed, but determined to either find Ryuko or at least learn what's become of her. It doesn't help that he has never in his life been outside of the few areas they've visited, let alone on his own... or that he doesn't fully know what passing as a human is like.

Here's a literary, fanfic-y description of all that.

Abilities per this storyline: Can morph his body in whatever he wishes. Usually he 'wishes' to either pass as a human to avoid problems and navigate the world better, or to make up outfits for his wearer. That said, if the situation calls,then blades, flying, big teeth and other fun stuff aren't off the table. And this time he can do it on his own.

How life-fiber synchronization works in this form: Well, either he just transforms into a big dragon-like energy form and carefully chomps the person (see: canonical transformation sequence), or, for special cases, this.

Still needs blood instead of food?: Yes. Though he can attempt to consume human food, it won't bring him much energy or the full taste spectrum like blood does.

Now they definitely have a lot to catch up on, issues to work through and things to figure out, but the most important part is that both of them are finally home.

NSFW topics will likely get discussed. As for full roleplays - if they do happen, will be tagged and put under read more. Mun's relationship with writing sex is that one Spiderverse gif. "Can't do it on command". (But can do it. We'll see. Altho keep in mind that Senketsu lived among humans for less than a year and there likely wasn't any sex ed in Honnouji. There's a journey to be had for sure >:3 )

No godmodding or powerplaying. Canon does not limit me much in terms of what Senketsu could be capable of if you piss him AND his mun off. So let's both be reasonable.

There is a possibility I'll suddenly start writing replies longer than what we started with. I get carried away. If that annoys you or god forbid makes you feel bad, please do tell.

Magic anons, cracks, crossovers, yes. Angst, violence, canon-typical bloodshed, darker plots, also yes. Fluff and hurt/comfort absolutely yes as well.

I may answer rapid fire, I may disappear for days, I do not control the life or the work or even this brain of mine. Sadly.

My favourite trope has to be:

I sacrificed myself to save you. I didn't plan to survive. I burnt all the bridges. I intended to break your heart with my death, but that would be all right, because I wouldn't be around to see you. I pretended that you'll mourn me for a while and move on. I convinced myself I was going down in the blaze of glory. That my deed was appreciated. That everything was going to be all right afterwards, and I didn't need to be there to see it.

But I survived. And now I have to look you in the eye. I have to pick up the pieces of the life I shattered and figure out how to put it back together. If it can be done at all.

At the same time, the cousins were unloading some things from their pickup truck, before settling to pack up the things in the compartments of their bikes.

"So we're literally traveling as a convoy, Sis? That's hella dope honestly. I was thinking we could load our bikes in the truck instead coz, yknow, terrains and stuff."

Ryuko just lightly shook her head. "Nah, if you're gonna drift along with me at least I want you all to have that convoy feel, yknow? It'll be fun, actually."

"I think we're all good to go! And looks like everyone's ready too."

Indeed, all of them, now including Senketsu, stepped out of the house with everything they needed for the impromptu trip. A little banter here and there between Ashiya and Yamato as they locked the house, and Ryuko stepped off her bike to meet up with Senketsu, hoping to at least explain just a little tiny details to him.

She took his hands in hers. "Sorry this is awfully sudden, but we were all having one of those nights and, well, this time, I didn't wanna drift off by myself. I figured we all could use a little vacation too, and...maybe you'd like to see the north side for a start? It won't be too lonely for us both this time around, yknow...?

Senketsu hanged a step back behind everyone else at first, letting them discuss whatever needed to be discussed about things he decidedly had no experience in. As soon as his eye landed on Ryuko, however, he couldn't (and didn't try to) stop himself from meeting her halfway.

"Awfully sudden," he teased with a toothy smile, amused, "right, because everything else we've done together was, of course, very planned and casual." He squeezed her hands back a bit in wordless reassurance, attempting to chase all the impulses to apologize away. "It sounds amazing, Ryuko" he then answered simply, more seriously. And it did. Both the promise of the north (although frankly, he'd go anywhere by her side), and the fact that she chose not to drift off alone this time around.

"Do I get to ride with you this time?" it suddenly occurred to him to ask, as he noticed all the readied bikes. Part of the family or not, he definitely wasn't planning to get one of his own any time soon (not without a bunch of driving lessons first, anyway). Please say yes.

"N-not that I have any complaints about the previous company, of course." He nodded to Kotetsu, not wanting to be rude. Although he doubted anyone would judge him for being excited to potentially ride with Ryuko, for every possible conceivable reason.

Road Trip Time!

"Sen-nii! Wake up, we gotta go! Impromptu road trip with Big Sis. Grab whatever you got and let's go. I'll even get Kotetsu to lend you some extra shirts and pants!"

Right across six rooms, said man can be heard hollering, "BABE YOU SURE HE WEARS MY SIZE?"

Peeks out from the room. "Oh yea definitely! I can tell!"

Outside the house, Ryuko's thoughts drifted away while waiting for her boys. It dawned on her that Senketsu was also living with them too and she, well, understandably forgot to tell him of her sudden impulse to drive away. But Kaga assured her that he would help him inform her man of it.

But she still couldn't shake that forgetful feeling, tho...

"...hope he doesn't take it the wrong way..."

"Huh?"

Senketsu not as much 'woke up' as he startled from his dormant state and hopped up on his feet immediately, ready to go before he even processed what was going on. Call it a force of an old habit - back in their Honnouji days, sudden wake up calls often meant urgent calls to action. Or being late, which was sort of the same thing.

"Road trip?" he questioned curiously, sticking his head outside his room. Wasn't that the thing that the whole school had gone on-- ah, no, that one was a Raid Trip. This sounded much more like hitting the road for reasons considerably more fun. "...Sure! I mean, I don't have much to pack at all!" It was true that he didn't accumulate many possessions still. Owning many clothes still felt weird, he didn't need to cook, and books, well, something told him that was not exactly a 'road trip' material.

Not that he knew what was, but hey. He was all for finding out, especially if the trip was with Ryuko.

Speaking of which, it was kind of weird that she didn't shake him awake herself. After a brief worried consideration, however, he chose to see it as a testament to everyone else seeing him as family. Sort of like the Mankanshoku siblings would wake each other up. Or maybe it was a surprise of sorts? Either way, he very soon left the room as prepared and dressed as he could be, and went outside with everyone else.

Sort of childishly hyped for his first non-raid road trip, if he were to be completely honest.

"I sure can."

Yagen has an answer for that, even though he never liked it no matter which way anybody puts it.

"We humans usually have something, or someone, to hold on to. A belief, faith in the higher being, faith in another person, or even the very existence of someone special; it could be a family member, a friend, a loved one. Something that keeps them going in life no matter how many times they chew us up and spit us out."

He trailed off. then slowly continued. "The best way I can describe how human willpower works is...they have an anchor to keep them grounded, but that anchor can also act as something that drives them to keep on living. The will to live, mostly, if I dare say. When one truly loses that willpower to go on with their life, to move on even when they knocked down...most of the time, it's because of a loss..."

For a moment, Yagen, well, he wasn't "Yagen", so to speak. He was briefly Ashiya again, a hooligan from a school up north that used to hurt those who had wronged him in the past. "When you lost someone near and dear to you, sometimes...they're also the reason you held on for so long, and when they're gone..." He sighed slowly.

"We humans are stupid like that, Senketsu-san. Too stupid to let go, and too stupid to realize we sometimes hurt ourselves...and also stupid enough to do worse on ourselves..."

He turned to Senketsu, having that same gaze a younger brother would give to his older brother in delicate moments like these.

"Senketsu-san...Ryuko-nee really loves you. She was this close to giving up, but she knows she can't, even if fate gives her that chance. Call it prolonging the "inevitability", but even when she misses you, she still cherished the times you both went through. And that..."

He didn't even realize the stray tears that was pooling at the corner of his eyes, remembering how Ryuko had screamed in agony and sorrow upon seeing Senketsu again, all those years of mourning and sadness bursting out...

"...that takes enough willpower to even survive, even when you don't want to. The dark calls for her, but she still has the will to say "Fuck you I'm not done yet" to the world."

There was a pause, in which Senketsu just looked at him, processing what he had just heard. It… definitely checked out with what he'd seen in humans. With a defeated sigh, he leaned against the table, tousling his short red hair with his hand. Something vulnerable shined through his features, as if answering Yagen's own vulnerability.

"You know, she'd probably hate me saying it, but when I first met Ryuko," he quietly began, half-thinking out loud, "she was all bruised and beaten. Wounded and bleeding. I think she'd been crying before that, too, but I never asked and she'd never admit it. The point is, as soon as she gained a new weapon, me, she went right back to it. That was my first impression of her."

He let his claws slowly morph back into fingers — he could always do it again if still needed.

"And I watched her do it again and again. Falling, getting up. Losing, recovering. Bouncing back a little harder each time. I learned where she was vulnerable, I learned the way she was hurting, yes, but that pattern stayed the same."

"It never even occurred to me to ask: what then? What are you going to do afterwards, when you learn about your father, uncover all the secrets, defeat all the enemies? I just assumed she would… Keep going. I assumed that all her willpower was a given, just because she's, well, Ryuko, and Ryuko is like that. Can you blame me, she was the first and in a way the last human I'd known, and I never got to learn what it's like for people… after the war. And I certainly would never assume that I am the one who would be that important. I was made with one purpose only, and I served it. Done. Nobody should need a battle kamui in a world with no battles! A school uniform after graduation!"

Senketsu looked at Yagen, Ashiya, again, this time a smile on his face, albeit a pained one. Loves him, huh. Does he even know what love is, him, an alien parasite who had barely lived? If that's anything like what Yagen described, then yes. Of course he loves her too. It could never be otherwise.

"And it's not like I, of all people, don't understand. I was created for her. For her to wear, for her to wield, only for her to hear, if that was even intentional. When she left me once, I was stuck without a wearer or anyone to talk to, and could only think of going after her. By the time I started to develop any ability to talk to others I was gone within an hour. Ryuko fought for my autonomy and my right to decide, because of course she did, but for me there was never any other choice but to be by her side."

He pressed his palm to his chest, still in half-disbelief.

"But that's me. Created for her and content with it. She, she's… She is Ryuko. She had a family, a newly found sister, a best friend and a graduation on the horizon. Things to do, places to see, outfits to wear. I never had or saw or wanted a life without her, so sure, she is my reason to live, entirely, but I easily saw her without me, and better off for it."

"Guess at the end of the day kamuis are stupid, too." Catching himself, he cleared his throat. "Apologies for talking your ear off. It's just… a lot to wrap my head around, and I don't… I don't exactly want to bother her with it when I already feel bad for not realizing my own importance and inadvertently causing all that pain."

"You might be on to something there, Senketsu-san." He looked up at the taller man. "Certain situations can trigger the "fight-or-flight" response in humans, and in yours and Ryuko-nee's case, most of the time they're do-or-die situations. That could prompt the heightened resilience and regenerative capabilities."

Yagen was already typing away on his laptop, now beginning to retrieve the photos from all three microscopes. He went back to the third piece, examining it even further. "Besides the two pieces, the one you ripped off seemed to still have erratic activity, as if trying to either fray away or trying to hold on together. Call it what humans would refer to as 'muscle memory'. Oh, one more thing..."

He gently took Senketsu's hand and placed one claw under the first microscope (after removing the first cloth), observing it rather intently. He only hummed in thought, before removing the claw from the contraption.

"Senketsu-san, you do realize that you, in general, are basically a walking bundle of Banshi threads at this point. As I recall, those were one of the primary reasons you're resilient, for the most part, correct?" He typed away once more, one or twice humming and sighing in mild dissatisfaction, shaking his head lightly. He'll have to put away those little concerns for later.

But Yagen, as immersed he was in this particular research, didn't miss out the primary reason why Senketsu was asking about potential regenerative, of course.

He had a somber look on his face now as he spoke, "I think...a certain kind of willpower also could be playing in this. I hate to think that Ryuko-nee could be on the verge of...giving up entirely at some point of her life...which explained why it took her too long to recover from that busted leg two years ago..."

"A... 'walking bundle of Banshi threads?'"

He recalled what those were. The "main" fibers in any sentient outfit, the ones where the desire to be clothing was stored. Something, something, there was only one in each Goku uniform, but multiple in him even back in the day.

Considering those were probably the threads left behind which he and Ryuko absorbed, and those were also probably the only ones stubborn enough to still be floating through space after being given the order to 'fuck off'...

"I think you're right. I already had more of them than any other, and then I suspect those were also mostly what I used to rebuild myself. It's probably logical, since that desire to have a form again was all I had to work with."

He eyed Yagen with a slight hint of worry at the dissatisfied sigh. Was it... a bad thing? Senketsu decided not to pry, hoping that he'd be told if there was any reason to worry.

About him, that is. Ryuko was another case entirely.

Thinking about her getting ready to "give up" and losing her willpower somehow hurt just as much, if not more than the thought of her weakening because of it. Scientifically, it made sense that the Fibers, ever survival-oriented, would be slacking at keeping their host alive when said host wasn't much interested in that herself. Scientifically.

On every other level it made no damn sense, because how could something like that be happening to his Ryuko and what on Earth could he do about it now that he had finally dragged his skirt back?

"You'll have to help me on this one, I'm afraid," he said as evenly as he could, suddenly glad he didn't have his ribbon eyebrows in this form, for those would definitely worriedly droop by now. "How does human willpower work, when one starts to lose it?"

"You dork. Of course you smell good."

Remind her to get a separate box of those pods for his, uh, "snacking" moments. The last thing she wants Senketsu to deal with was finding out that her boys saw him eating Tide pod like potato chips while doing the laundry.

Anyway.

Ryuko couldn't help giving just a soft little kiss on his lapel, before holding him out again for her to see. "Did you know when we started settling down in Izu, they thought us as some bunch of high school dropouts? They really didn't believe me when I told them my age, but I figured then we could still pass as school hooligans here while helping out the locals."

She held him close again. "This is really thoughtful of you, Senketsu. I guess it wouldn't hurt to wear you again, for old times' sake."

Ryuko gently placed him down on her bed, before she took off her hoodie and shirt. She didn't bother to cover herself, honestly it's not like Senketsu hadn't seen her without any clothes before. As she dropped her shirt down the floor and stepped out of the pants that had pooled down her feet, her back was still turned towards the bed, where Senketsu could still see her.

While slightly obscured, her scars post-Honnouji were still there, and a lone dragon tattoo could be seen on her back...

"For old times' sake, huh?" he chuckled. Just a little bit ago he might've gotten all in his doubts about it again, had she not just kissed his lapel and had she not been clearly more than willing to put him on. He learned a long time ago that sometimes with Ryuko actions said more than words - and that was definitely coming back to him now. So he dropped the fretting part, instead settling is something much more comfortable between them.

"Well, in that case, I should provide excellent disguise," he casually quipped in reply to her recount of their first days at Izu. "That is, if you're still passing for school hooligans. Those ladies at the market seemed quite fond of you."

It was true that seeing her naked wasn't something out of the ordinary for him. To be quite honest, considering she used (and was about) to wear him on her body, not to mention their synchronization, it would be more weird for him to make a big deal out of it. The only big deal here, honestly, was the anticipation, but he did his best not to seem needy. Instead he did look, noting every littlest new scar he was not aware of, wasn't there to protect her from, and every old one he couldn't share the pain of. What caught his attention the most, however, was of course a big intricate dragon on her back. "Tattoos" he thought such drawings were called. A rare sight, although appropriate, considering what she and her boys called themselves. Even more so appropriate according to what he knew about dragons from stories and legends - protectors, beings of strength and good fortune, of magic and transformation.

"A dragon..." he mused softly. "It suits you."

"WHOA--!"

She clearly did not anticipate those familiar pink sparkles coming back within her peripheral, and Ryuko almost staggered back trying to keep herself on her feet and--whatever it was she was trying to hold on with her arms.

But then the dust settled in, and she found herself hugging his clothes--wait no, he IS the piece of clothes again!

Wait what??

"Wha--what? Wait, what? How?? Huh? You--!!" Ryuko held out her arms, trying to have a a better look at what Senketsu just turned himself into. The fuku was the same as he had been way, way back then. Same navy blue, same black "eyepatch" on the right, the same red-gold lapel and scarf. The only thing different was, as he mentioned, the length of the skirt.

It was more reminiscent of a sailor fuku worn by a sukeban.

"You...you could actually do that? Morph into a fuku again?" She won't even ask if it would fit her, of course he wouldn't fit anyone else but her now. The temptation to wear him again was, undoubtedly rising, but she only resorted to just hug him closer and nuzzle those lapels again.

"You smell like flowers." She chuckled. "Did you eat my softener pod again?"

"By my estimate, I could morph into anything now," he said, audibly proud of the fact. "Although admittedly, I haven't tried many forms. And I would need a reference."

"So it's your choice. Truthfully, getting worn by you again, even if briefly, was always on my mind throughout all that time. I just wasn't sure how to bring it up."

Here, he said it. Of course he would fit her. He did remember the size well, and he was decently confident that he eye-balled any changes correctly. Which would probably sound weird if he ever said that out loud. He also might or might've not poked about any hoodies or jackets Ryuko would leave laying around, to get an idea of what size and cut she wore now. Which would've probably sound even weirder to mention, especially considering quite a couple of times when he got downright jealous of the things, because she was wearing them daily. Was that even an appropriate emotion to have now?! It's not like 'clothing jealousy' would've been in anyone's vocabulary so he could ask.

He settled down a bit, relaxing into the hug - it felt very different (although no less, if not more like home) as a clothing compared to a solid human form. The question, however, did make him startle a bit.

"I did not!" he proclaimed with a tell-tale crack in his voice and immediately flopped in defeat. "...well, maybe a bite. It's not my fault they look so appetizing. Is it a good smell, at least?"

Would she...?

There had been days, months, when she didn't just want to drive away, or run from her problems, from the dark of her screaming minds; no, she wanted to fucking FLY AWAY. The days when she hoped and prayed her stomping boots would just launch her up into the air and just take her away from all the troubles.

Parkour was the next best thing, once or twice. But this time, Ryuko really, really wanted to fly again.

Ryuko held on tightly to Senketsu's jacket, almost tugging him close to her. "I don't know…if I can even wear you again…is it too soon to even try…?" She tried to take deep breaths again, as if trying to not relapse. The thought of flying again seemed so tempting, but she also didn't want Senketsu to feel like he was forced...

She "didn't know"? Senketsu was dangerously close to jumping to the seemingly obvious conclusion that maybe he was overstepping to even imply, but... thankfully, he knew her better than that. And if the hands tagging on his jacket and what limited read on her he could get from the glove were telling him anything, it was that they were both equally dancing around each other, afraid to impose. Again.

"I don't know," he echoed carefully. "Is it?"

Maybe he needed to get his point across - the point being that he was just a little bit dying to get worn by her again - somewhat more straightforward.

"Don't let go, okay?" he said, and took a deep breath. None of them were clearly in any shape or form to have any productive talks on changes or types of clothing, so he opted for the safe one, the familiar one. With a well-known ringing of Life Fibers transforming, his whole silhouette suddenly burst into a cloud of blinding pink sparkles, and when those were gone - what Ryuko was holding in her hands was a very familiar sailor uniform, albeit with a longer skirt.

"Well," he flatly commented, finding his vision upside down now that the upper part of his body folded over under the weight of his own collar, "I almost forgot how flexible I really am." He made an effort to actually lift himself back to look at her and expressively flopped his sleeves around. "So? Do I look wearable or have I lost my touch?" It was said in good humor, but he did eye the rest of himself a bit self-consciously. "I, uh, thought you might appreciate a longer skirt these days."

Ryuko sighed again, this time more of a reminiscing sort. God, she almost forgot about that. They did know how to fly back then. So far up, high enough that it invoked the ire of one loud-mouthed snappy Elite conductor who accused them of trespassing her domain of the skies.

"THE SKY IS MINE, GODDAMNIT! THAT'S IT!! NOW THE GLOVES ARE COMING OFF, YOU STINKIN' BITCH!!!"

"Senketsu Shippu..." It was a soft whisper mostly, but it came out just as natural as it had been all these years. Ryuko couldn't help but to wonder if... If there was a possibility of them doing it again...

She managed a soft rub against his nose and gently leaned back. "Yea... I kinda do miss flying, honestly..."

He also missed it. Missed the sky being their (yes, rudely stolen, or rather won in a fair battle) domain instead of a place of falling, sure, but more so he missed flying together. Okay, doing many things together. He was not at all above admitting that despite his newfound autonomy he still missed being, well. Worn. Not that he did admit it out loud much, because, well, with all the hurt and the new form and the loads of other baggage that'd built between them through all the years apart, he felt... anxious to overstep, maybe.
