we believe that the image macro can redefine poetry outside of canons and boundaries.

MACRO will serve as both a historical document, collecting the medium’s earliest classics, and a picture of where the form is heading.

Once I dropped acid three times a day for a month. It was the summer, my sixteenth. My family was taking our yearly vacation on Maui. I’d made this friend, Craig, a local surfer with great drug connections. Every morning we’d score a few blotter hits, hitchhike to this remote beach, and spend the day zonked, hallucinating, babbling, and swimming around in the ocean. After several weeks, we started to lose it. We’d found this coral reef a short distance offshore. One day we robbed a hotel room, stole a truck, and transported the room’s furnishings to the beach. We towed our loot, piece by piece, through the surf, underwater, and into this huge, cavelike nook in the reef, setting each chair, rug, et cetera, in place, then swimming furioiusly back for the surface. Our plan was to live in this cave, rent-free, far away from fascistic reality. It never crossed our minds that we wouldn’t be able to breathe.

LONELY WHALE It has been tracked since 1992 and been labeled the loneliest whale in the world. It sings at a frequency of 51.75 Hz whereas others of it’s kind sing at 15 - 25 Hz. It does not travel along migration routes of any baleen whale species. There is no opportunity for other whales to run into it. Do not adjust your browser, major websites are “slowing down” to save Net Neutrality

Sept. 10 has been designated as a day of “Internet Slowdown” in the Battle for Net Neutrality. All day, prominent websites and organizations — from the ACLU, WordPress.com, Vimeo, Meetup and Kickstarter — have added messages to their websites asking visitors to contact their lawmakers and the Federal Communications Commission in support of net neutrality.

a friend of mine recently passed away, I’ve been thinking about death a lot lately

this is a poem about death, and how I don’t want to believe in it

No one can stop you from dreaming, although dreams change perpetually. Full of half starts, and unexpected endings—cruelties and pleasures—human faces and inhuman shapes. Your dreams may change with every glance, but they will never end.

You will dream and dream and dream like the Mississippi river, for 20,000 years and longer. There is nothing cold enough to freeze them. They carve out canyons and flood miles of land. They will not be contained. The rivulets will run, the drops with gather. They scurry even over mountains.

You will dream like the earth itself—spinning in circles. There is no destruction strong enough to cancel their orbit. They are too large, and too fast.

French filmmaker Georges Méliès’s A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la lune) is widely considered the first ever science fiction movie. It turns 110 years old this year.

It drew inspiration from both H.G. Wells’ The First Men in the Moon and Jules Verne’s From Earth to the Moon, and, though it lacked any coherent plot, Méliès’s innovative special effects were a marvel to its viewers (he also designed the sets, acted in the lead role, produced, and directed). Although the film was a success, Méliès eventually went bankrupt in part because of Thomas Edison and his associates, who, among other American filmmakers, distributed stolen copies of his movies in the United States and reaped enormous profits. This was Méliès’s 400th film (he would go on to make over 500), and it cost 10,000 Francs to produce.

 Colored versions of Méliès’s movies were sold alongside black-and-white ones, but hand-colored prints of this particular film, his most famous, were only rediscovered in 1993. The film premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival completely restored with color and a new soundtrack, 109 years after its original release in 1902.
