the familiar voice confirmed only alexa’s suspicions. her eyes widened for half a second as she reluctantly broke her gaze from the tree, finally bringing herself to fully look at adonis. seeing him for the first time since everything had ended was more than alexa than expected, sending a wave of guilt over her body. “h-hi.” she managed, breath hitching slightly as she felt herself grasping at straws in terms of what to say next. any conversation skills she had seemed to have just vanished and alexa felt utterly stupid in the moment. “what am i doing in new york?” she repeated. alexa had heard the question, she was simply trying to buy herself more time. the answer was simple, though she wasn’t sure hearing that your ex had moved streets away from you was anything anyone wanted to hear. “I’m living in my family’s penthouse for a bit. i wanted something … new, i guess?” honesty was the best policy, right? “over on park avenue. but how are you? you look good.” his later comment led her to glance down at teddy, who was now pulling at his leash, more than excited to see adonis. “i think he missed you.”
