How to be successful
1. Follow opportunities, go down the rabbit holes. You'll never regret it.
2. Always, always, choose love. We're all irrational anyways.
There is always a part of every human that's unknown
It's up to you to get comfortable and accept that part.
Confessions of a casual fan
There are so many fandoms out there, and it's great everyone is so into all this stuff, but you have to admit its a bit intimidating to anyone who wants to start getting into something that already has an intense fan base. It's extremely discouraging! Sometimes I feel I have no right to even start to watch a TV show or anime, like its already owned by everyone who knows everything about it
"Oh you watch Game of Thrones? How do you feel about the deviation from the book in terms of Tyrion's participation in the battle in episode x? I felt really cheated by that." (Uhh!!)
Even when I'm actually really into a show or game, I honestly can't remember a lot of people's names or the tiny details in certain things. Please forgive me if I sometimes refer to people as that one crazy guy with the poofy hair that likes to kill people (Oh mugen?) Or that really badass girl who's like half Japanese (Mikasa?) Or that creepy girl who was really cool but could see dead stuff like harry and had blonde hair (Luna Lovegood?) I'm not superhuman I can't remember these things all the time. One name goes in my head and another goes right out. X.x
For all you intense people out there, just remember the plight of the casual fan!
Reasons why ETS should die
I'm currently sitting here in my college apartment living room fretting about the horrors of applying to grad school and watching my fatass hamster running in his wheel. As I observe him gleefully not give a fuck, it made me think: what if i just didn't apply. What if didn't follow my parents who insist its the only way I'll have "self respect" and a happy life. What if I didn't take valuable time away from my current classes I'm not trying to fail. What if I didn't retake the GRE I signed up for next month... The GRE! I immediately looked up if I could get a refund if I decided to go through with my plan to not do anything anymore, and... Those motherfuckers! Okay let's get down to why ETS should just go... Away. Forever.
1) It's 195 dollars!
You bloodsucking muddapuckers. The normal college student doesn't have 200 bucks sitting around that's not allocated to overpriced rent and food to survive. Sure they say we can get fee waivers, but I sure couldn't get one.
2) Need to reschedule your test? Sure that'll be 50 bucks.
So I realized that my graduate school application deadline was a couple days before the test scores would be reported. This was ten minutes after i signed up for the thing, and kaching! Wow okay. You really need 50 bucks for that?
3) It's implied you'll take it more than once.
Maybe twice, maybe 15 times. They want your money and they want you to devote precious time studying for useless math questions and words you'll never use. Oh and sit there for 4 hours every time until your eyes get red and watery and your stomach is in agony and your brain has turned to gray mush.
4) They bank on the fact that you NEED them.
Want to have a successful career? Go to grad school. Want to get in to grad school? Take the GRE. Don't want to take it because you think its outdated and expensive? That's okay, you don't need a successful career.
5) It's not even a good predictor of how well you'll do in grad school.
Why would anyone make us take a test that has nothing to do with grad school, a requirement to get into grad school? Because... They can.
6) Yeah! Fuck this test, I want a refund!
They will keep half your money because they were holding your spot. On a computer. That will be happily filled up by that one guy who took it like 6 times already and he got an almost perfect score every time. Fuck that guy too.
It's okay, there's talk of them getting rid of this antiquated hazing torture. Unfortunately who knows when that's happening? But just know this ETS. I'm on to you.
