My new The Great edit!
Really proud of this one.
Currently working on a ~5 minute long The Great edit, I hope to have it finished sometime next week!
the grudge by Olivia Rodrigo is so Olaf and Beatrice
Ok, this is making me irrationally angry.
Help me.
I need a legitimate source as to why people are saying that Count Olaf's last name is Labinski.
I cannot for the life of me find a damn source.
One does not exist on the Wiki. I haven't been able to find one anywhere else.
I looked!
Someone point me to it.
Why are you saying this? Where is your evidence?
If there is canon evidence, or even supporting evidence, I will happily accept it and shut up. But I can't even tell where this came from!
Help. Me.
closest thing i can find to a source is this post from @snicketsleuth proposing it because of the character count olaf labinski from avatar by theophile gautier? but i can’t find any evidence for it otherwise and i haven’t read avatar so i can’t speak to how much count olaf may or may not be an allusion to him.
my guess is its prevalence is probably another case of a bit of fanon getting out of control and then people forgetting its not canon lmao
Oh thank God I haven't gone completely insane.
Not to discredit Sleuth, but questionable addition on the Wiki's part. They should probably phrase it better.
There's supporting evidence and then there's speculation. That's definitely in the speculation category.
Like, yeah, I contributed questionable canon to the Wiki too, but I did use math based on source material.
Also, Wiki, cite your freaking sources. If my Baudelaire Fortune calculations get cited, this also needs a citation!
I agree that it is fanon at best, but it’s a theory I enjoy. Avatar is a fun read (it’s quite short if you ever find yourself with a free hour or two). The most the two Count Olafs have in common is that no one believes that they are Count Olaf (ASOUE Olaf because of his disguises, and Avatar Olaf because his soul was transported into another man’s body). I don’t take it as evidence of Daniel Handler’s original intention with the name but if I’m thinking about what Count Olaf’s last name is, I’d like to think it’s Labinski.
