Hello, is this blog still open? Do you know if i HAVE to choose a flame type who is similar to the personality/fighting style of my oc? Like can i make an rain or lightning user who is anti-social, and doesn't know how to deal with people or express what they feel very well or even doesnt have a clue about conforting someone? An rain or lighting(one or the other) user who only fights with long-range weapons?

I think it helps, definitely! But I also think that flames can be tricky and that personal backstories and circumstances can also prove to change personalities.

Generally, flames do match fighting styles, if only because they kind of each do a certain thing. Each flame has its own job, y’know, but it’s so open-ended that they could be offensive, defensive, neutral, useless, etc.

Hibari used his flames to defend against Gamma’s attacks in the future, but he mainly uses them for offense, you know?

Characters tend to have at least one trait that they share with other users, but it’s not set in stone! Fon has nearly no resemblance to the other Storm flame users when it comes ot his personality. Likewise, neither does Bluebell with Rain or Shoichi with Sun.

It seems that flames are hereditary (ex, Gokudera and Bianchi), so your oc could be a Sun flame user, but they could have a story that made them really quiet or anxious!

Hi! I'd like to get something off my chest, if you don't mind. Something about the KHR fandom (well, a lot of fandoms in general, actually) has been bothering me. I've encountered some very arrogant and infuriating people who call Amano-sensei a bitch, threaten to physically harm her if she doesn't make a certain pairing happen, and claim that she "should" do things according to very specific standards for their satisfaction. Some people really make me lose my faith in humanity. Your thoughts?

Ah, is that really happening in the KHR fandom? I’ll admit that I haven’t been very up to date with the fandom as of late, and that I don’t really pay attention to many fandoms in general ... The last time I looked at the KHR fandom, I knew those people existed but I’ve never really seen them in person?

But I don’t doubt that those kinds of people do exist! I’ve seen them in many other fandoms, especially a few of my main ones. People always tend to take something way too far - especially if it has so-called ‘homosexual subtext’. There’s a very obvious difference between intentional subtext and unintentional subtext, imo.

Honestly, in that kind of scenario, you really justh ave to ignore them. If they end up targeting you or they get to a point where it’s unbearable, just block them! I know I’ve blocked my own fair share of tumblr users because I couldn’t stand their posts in my fandom tags. You should also try and find the good people in each fandom! There are always people who don’t care about what ships are canon or not, since they love the series so much.

It’s only my hope that people realize that shippings aren’t life or death. You can enjoy the small friendships, little moments between two characters, the sassy moments and the sad moments! A story doesn’t have to be about two people falling in love.

If I may share something with y'all...I believe the main reason for the existence of Mary Sues and Marty Stus is insecurity. Sue/Stu creators (not just in khr fandom but fandoms in general) may feel unsatisfied IRL so they create too-perfect characters as a form of wish fulfillment, and denigrate canon characters to make themselves feel better. I find it interesting how basic psychology can be applied to fiction. Whaddaya think?

As someone who had a Mary Sue and has grown up to think more about it I can confirm her existence, at least for myself, came from a lack of self-confidence as well as a feeling of loneliness. You're talking to an only child with split up parents who moved three times, I had trouble keeping friends and I think my main sue was made after we moved the third time.

For the most part there's nothing harmful about Mary Sues! It's often a way for young people to feel accomplished or important, and that's a good thing! And a lot of people writing them don't really have some sort of writing background. Now that I'm, well, a creative writing major who does a lot of study with character creation I understand a LOT more then I did when I was thirteen.

I don't really have a problem with sues, honestly! The only times I actually get annoyed with the creators is A, if they're forcing their sue on someone (as a roleplayer, especially of a decently popular character, I've had this happen and it's REALLY uncomfortable), B, if they refuse to listen to nice, pleasant critique (as a writer, always be willing to grow!), and C if they do something that's just really terrible or triggering with the character (aka turning a character into a rapist, please do NOT do that there is NO reason you should EVER do that).

But on their own I think Mary Sues are actually important, ESPECIALLY for young girls. Think about it a lot of Sue creators ARE young girls because a LOT of girls will grow up feeling inferior to others simply based on their gender. And while it's increasing we don't nearly have the representation of power in media/fantasy. So having a Mary Sue that is stronger then all the boys is actually important for little girls. It makes them feel confident and accomplished!

Fantasies harm no one, and that's what Mary Sue's are. Yeah, forcing your fantasy on someone else is a problem and you should always be open to kind critque, but in the end having a Mary Sue isn't the worst thing in the world, or even a bad thing at all!

Of course I get annoyed by twisted canon, overpowered characters, and the like but I know WHY they exist, and the reason they exist isn't something harmful.

I'm really confused about the future after the Arcobaleno's arc. I mean, would it turn out to be the same like in the future arc to follow the current timeline or would it be totally rewritten depending on the events in the past?

After the last arc? It would be totally rewritten, I'd think.

In sort of a way that Tsuna and co created a new timeline in what they did in the future. Since it explains that every other parallel world failed to bring Tsuna and co. to the future, or fell under the hands of Byakuran, then you can assume there's only one timeline where Tsuna DID go to the future and DID defeat Byakuran, meaning only one timeline where he goes back with those memories and those connections made.

So the future is anyone's guess. Tsuna and co. created a new one, more or less, and now that they know about the threat of Byakuran, and know where to find him, they can also keep an eye on him to make sure. Because they have the future memories they have knowledge of all marshmallow boy's abilities and how to get rid of him.

KHR's whole time travel and parrallel worlds thing is sorta vague in general--

do you think if the vongola weren't as prevalent or didn't really exist in the khr world that it would make sense for lots of different families to be fighting for power or just one large "other" family (sorry if I'm not being clear enough)

If the Vongola didn't exist, I think it could really go either way! But I do believe that different families would be more powerful than we see them in the manga.

The Vongola is said to be very powerful - not only because of the main family's power, but also because of CEDEF and the Varia. If the Vongola doesn't exist, then that's a whole bunch of incredibly capable, powerful people that are left in the mafia world. Just someone like Squalo or Bel alone would likely boost a family's power.

So with the Varia, CEDEF and most of the Vongola separated, they'd probably go into different families, which would help to make the battle for dominance a lot more interesting, imo.

Could you imagine Alaude in a different family without Giotto though? Holy shit, that'd be a disaster.

Dammit! Of all characters in KHR, M.M (tnx to that anon) had to have the sickest weapons ever. Say, what if I want an oc to have triangles as weapons.... Would that be stupid? How about a piano? (now how the fuck is one gonna get that out of one's pockets?)

Triangles would be fun! Honestly I like the more non-traditional and ridiculous weapons because KHR is really a series where creativity can shine. Music weapons are canon, have at it.

Don't really see how a piano would work for stealth. Maybe a portable keyboard but there's not really a version you can conceal all that well. But maybe you could have someone who pretends to be like one of those street musicians?

Oh, I never really thought about drums. I mean, how in the heavens are you going to be offensive when the instrument is practically deadweight? (Thinkin more 'bout violin or so) But if noise is the main idea, then would an amplified electric guitar work well with lightning?

Ohh that would be really cool! Yes I'd love to see that sort of thing!

I wonder what kind of flame would work with a flute, now that I think about it. A little piccolo would be easy to conceal. I played the flute in high school, so I'm curious. Maybe something more soothing like rain to fit the sound. Instruments are a fun weapon, really.

I've always liked the idea of having an OC attack with music (vibrations), much like M.M. But if I were to apply a flame attribute to it, what/which would it be? Mist? Cloud?

Petition to stay away from mist and cloud flames. All in favor? Give other flames the spotlight. Heck I don't even see that many storm/rain flames in comparrision.

I think Lightning would work well, because lightning is chaotic and vibrating in general, thinking about it. Lightning with say, symbols or percussion instruments would be really cool!

Regarding that anon with the secondary flames, wasn't Hibari quite efficient with mist flames? If a character was uh, just as stubbornly training-wise, couldn't they develop and maybe excel in the secondary flame better than the main flame?

There's no evidence of any character actively doing so in canon, really. So I would say it's pushing the overpowered boundaries. Hibari is well, Hibari and Hibari in general is overpowered, in my opinion.

So I wouldn't do it. A secondary flame should stay secondary if a character is to be balanced.

And in general cloud and mist flames are both overpowered in their own right on their own, in comparison to the others anyways. But that may be because the characters that wield them are overpowered lauGHS

Is it possible to have cloud as the main attribute, but later on becoming quite skilled in using mist flames due to their similarities?

The thing about secondary flames is they are never shown to be THAT involved/used in comparison. Gokudera's flames are ONLY applicable with his sistema C.A.I. and he's unable to use any of them outside of it, he's restricted to his storm flames. And Lal's mist flames are only ever seen when working with her weapons, while the rain flames she could draw out of her own body during the fight with Gingerbread.

I think secondary flames are more of a last resort/system appropriate sort of thing rather then ever being considered a main weapon in battle. So if you're going to go with a secondary flame make them well.. secondary. They'll never be as skilled, as powerful, or as prominent in their secondary flame because it's sort of a muted attribute in comparison. So not Mukuro level illusions.

I tend to think of secondary flames as 'last resorts' myself that only ever come out in specific situations or have to be enhanced/drawn out by something. Especially the draw out part, aka some sort of weapon/box weapon/etc.

Woah is this blog still active? Seeing as the fandom is dead.... Tho, just wondering, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ABOUT A DECK OF CARDS AS A WEAPON? OR EVEN BETTER BRUSHES (personally, I like tooth brushes but paint brushes is good too)

A deck of cards sounds hella, especially for a mist user or Seto Kaiba I can see a sort of magician angle on it but I can also see it used for say Lightning or Cloud flames. Maybe you have a character that works at a casino, for example? You could touch on the American gangsters and Las Vegas with that kind of angle, which honestly I think would be REALLY dang cool. If someone wants to go for that I'd love to see an OC from America that had experience working in Vegas.

I think brushes would be a little more of an abstract weapon than cards, but I could still see some cool concepts. Again I think Illusionists with abstract weapons, like what about someone who brought paintings to life with illusions? Not exactly a new idea but something fun to mess around with in the KHR universe. But you could combine brushes with other weapons like knives or daggers (something that can actually do well...damage) and take it from any angle or flame. I can see that working better with an older character than a younger one, like the forks.

Have at both of them, they sound great to me!

I've been meaning to ask you for a while now: Do you think KHR is sexist? I've encountered a lot of online debate over this. Some fans complain about the tiny amount of female characters and say that it's ridiculous how Haru, Kyoko and Nana are portrayed as super oblivious housewives, Chrome is Tsuna's only female Guardian, Adelheid is only there to provide fanservice etc. What's your take on this?

I don't think there is anything intentionally all that sexist in KHR at all. If anything it's more the genre than the series. Name one big name Shounen that doesn't have an overwhelmingly MALE cast. This holds true for the likes of Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball, etc. Shounen manga are aimed at young male readers and are hero stories for the young male. It's very common that a shounen series such as KHR will have a mainly male cast, ESPECIALLY when it comes to battle.

However in comparison I think the females in KHR are treated better than in other manga. Compare Fairy Tale and KHR for a second. HUGE difference in the female cast. The obnoxious fanservice in Fairy Tale is one of the reasons I couldn't care less about it, it just puts me off especially in the animation. In comparison KHR really doesn't have that much fanservice, aside from Adelheid who was only added near the end and never appeared in the anime. The girls are treated with modesty, there's no big bouncing boobs throughout the anime (Aka there's no Rangiku sorta thing like in Bleach) and heck the most fanservice is actually to the GUYS. AKA the the Varia are all asshats and they're going to start a fight in the hot springs that was the gloriously beautiful OVA episode.

TBH I think KHR girls get it better than most shounen girls. Chrome especially is such a powerful character to me, because she's the girl we never get to see given spotlight and development in shounen series. She really grows despite all her shyness and set backs and holy heckie seeing her stand on her own really got to me. And I LIKE that KHR's two main girls ARE NOT FIGHTERS. AGAIN that's RARE in a shounen. Think Bleach and Naruto and One Piece. Rukia, Sakura, and Nami are ALL portrayed as 'tough' or 'fighters'. But Kyoko and Haru aren't, and I honestly appreciate that. I appreciate that they are normal girls and that they aren't treated in the LEAST as any kind of sex symbol.

I mean KHR's mangeka is a female, and it doesn't mean there is nothing sexist in KHR but again I blame that more on the genre than the series itself. I think KHR does a good job and Kyoko and Haru are one of the reasons I prefer it over most other shounen.
