Done for a tribute honoring Nintendo characters. I picked the heroine of a very classic, fairly unknown game, The Guardian Legend. I absolutely love this game. It also has the best music.

The controller overlays I’ve been mucking around with. I wanted to use some sprites, but haven’t decided how I want to set ‘em up yet. Kinda tricky when it’s a shoot ‘em up AND an rpg.

Of course, the irony of making Guardian Legend overlays for the default controller being that the game is like fucking impossible on your base controller and requires an NES Advantage or at the very least a turbo controller.

[The Guardian Legend] Episode 1

Clearly the ultimate 8-bit space adventure. Miria blows up tons and tons of stuff on an alien planet that’s about to crash into the Earth. Epic.

Although it’s an NES game from the late ’80s, it had both maze adventuring and scrolling-shooter scenes, making it way ahead of its time. It even pushed the limits of the NES’ Ricoh 2A03 processor.

It features stylized graphics and a compelling soundtrack, making it one of the best console games of its time.

The Guardian Legend (NES) was a pretty great hybrid game.  Part shoot ‘em up, and part wander around dungeons and blast stuff, it made for a nice mix of play styles.  I’m kinda surprised there hasn’t been some sort of re-release of the game by now.
