Ultravox's Vienna named greatest ever No. 2 single in BBC Radio 2 poll
Ultravox's 'Vienna' has been named the greatest ever song to reach number two in the UK charts in a list compiled by Radio 2 and the Official Charts Company.
The track was voted as the winner in a list that included songs from The Beatles, The Who, Queen and The Beach Boys.
Ultravox's frontman Midge Ure said: "We are extremely pleased and very humbled to have been given this honorary number one, especially knowing the outstanding records which were also in the running – Strawberry Fields Forever, Hound Dog and Wonderwall to name just a few."
Vienna was a huge hit after its release in 1981, but was famously beaten to the number one spot by novelty ditty 'Shaddup You Face' by American comedian Joe Dolce.
Martin Talbot of the Official Chart Company told the BBC. "‘Ultravox’s Vienna has beaten off some truly great, classic tracks to claim the title of the UK public's favourite number two single."
"It is also probably the most apt winner, given the fact that it was kept from the chart summit by Joe Dolce’s Shaddup You Face, which has long been considered one of the biggest chart injustices of all time."
Other great tracks that somehow missed out on top spot at their time of release include Oasis' 'Wonderwall' and Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep'.
The recognition seems to have helped Ure get over their 80s chart injustice as he has admitted it had 'restored our faith in the idea that the public will always recognise the good in music.'

Dan Castell’s wonderful short film Mourning Rules with Joseph, Olivia Poulet and Montserrat Lombard has been entered into the Virgin Media Shorts competition. It needs your help to promote it between now and July 19th and get it seen in cinemas around the country.
Between now and July 19th (at midday), we’ll be counting how many shares each film gets and the one that’s shared the most in that week will hit the shortlist. Every time you “like” a film, tweet it (with #ShortsLucky13 AND the full name of the film) or ‘share’ it on the film’s page, you’ll be racking up points for that entry. The film with the most points nabs the spot! So film makers, get promoting!

Whole ep of River Cottage: Three Go Mad.
ETA: It was uploaded by a fan, not Channel 4, so those outside the UK can watch.
Celia Plender caught up with actress Keeley Hawes to talk about clobbering cuttlefish, baking cakes and why she thinks she’d make a good farmer
Why did you decide to take part in the show?
It’s just one of those things that you think, ‘oh God, I have to do tha’ - I think I’d have regretted...
Actor Philip Glenister swaps his Audi Quattro and snakeskin boots for a fishing boat and a pair of wellies in his latest TV appearance. Celia Plender found out more about his trip to River Cottage.
Why did you decide to take part in the show?
I just like the show. I like River Cottage and...
Philip Glenister, Keeley Hawes, Felicity Kendal and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in River Cottage: Three Go Mad
We’re trying to find out if this is for a TV show or something. More info as soon as we know!
All I can think of is that line from Ashes 2x01: “Okay. Off you go, Sal. Stop all this stripping nonsense, there’s a good girl. Felicity Kendal didn’t get where she is by taking her clothes off. Did she?”
Oh, you STUNNER.
The socks!
I love this picture! *squints* They remind me of sisters here!
Should see the pics from when Montse came to see Rocket to the Moon! :D
