Are You the One should be about people trying to learn about themselves, who they really are, so they can grow and be better at relationships for the future. It should not be about a bunch of drunk people trying solve a math puzzle. That is the real reason Season 5 lost.
I think the producers/challenge creators giving the house no choice of who to put into the final two Truth Booths was their way of punishing the house for trying to win the game on strategy alone.
If you compare Season 5 with previous seasons, you see how past casts try to find reasons why the matches made sense. They did self reflection and analyzed their personality traits. This season did not do that (or they edited that part out). The producers want to sell the matchmaking process as best they can, so they need the cast to discuss it to make the science seem like it at least has some credibility.
Derrick having a problem with Shannon’s decision making process (or lack thereof) should have been a red flag for him.
Many people are solely blaming Shannon for the loss, especially her match, Joey. But Joey himself could have allowed Derrick to try to get the final date with Casandra when he was certain that the clue was about her. He also did not follow the strategy, so he is a hypocrite who also has no remorse for the consequences of his decisions. He took no responsibility for that during the reunion and pointed the blame to his match.
The whole cast lost this game together. It was a series of bad decisions from non-matches sticking together to bad Truth Booth voting. Unfortunately for Shannon, her bad decision could not come at a worse time or be more obvious. It was Derrick after all who picked the wrong match. According to strategy, the 9th beam from week 9, at that point, could have been Casandra/Derrick or Hannah/Joey. They edited out the scene of them trying to figure out which match made more sense or perhaps there was no scene to edit out. It seemed like Derrick decided his match was Shannon and everyone believed him since he’s supposed to be smartest one
This was a really sad, sad season. What a shit show! Can hardly wait for Season 6!!

My wish for episode 9 is for Gianna to find her perfect match and stir up some shit in the honey moon suite for Hayden & Carolina.
Actually, I honestly don’t think Hayden & Carolina have real chemistry. I don’t buy it.
Gianna’s pain when Hayden had to leave seemed sincere to me. That was more real than Hayden & Carolina’s forced attraction. It seems Hayden’s only giving Carolina a chance because she tried so hard.
Sorry. That’s just my opinion. I know a lot of people don’t like Gianna, but I hate seeing a girl cry like that. I also hate seeing a girl as great as Carolina having to chase so hard after a man.
Anyone follow shannon_mae on Snapchat? Go follow her if you aren’t. It’s the morning after the reunion taping and half the cast is together in a van. You would think Carolina and Hayden would be in the same van though.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t fully take the matchmaking process seriously… the compatibility is supposed to be “scientifically proven”, but just because you have similar personality/behavioral traits as someone doesn’t mean that you will find them attractive. I would love to read the actual peer-reviewed studies that this matchmaking process is based on.

Seems like quackery to me. The matchmakers think they really know people based on several hours worth of tests and interviews. Meanwhile, the contestants are living, eating, sleeping together 24/7 for 10 straight weeks - some getting physically intimate. I would say the contestants know each other more than the matchmakers actually know them. There are a lot of facets of each person that these tests can’t possibly detect. Not all aspects of a person are quantifiable, so the matches made are subjective and biased. They are limited by the experts’ experience.
When Ryan Devlin says, “Follow your hearts,” I think what he really means is try to remember how you answered all those questions.
I’m sure that the matchmakers have good intentions and have had success pairing people over the years. However, I doubt that their typical clientele are in their early 20′s living in a Real World type scenario, in a house full of people where literally everyone is physically attractive.
If the AYTO matchmaking process were actually scientific, this show would be on the Discovery Channel and there would be a lot more sex.
A “perfect match” doesn’t guarantee a “perfect relationship”. It puts a ton of pressure on the Perfect Match couples who end up together in real life and could set up some unrealistic expectations.
People’s behavior and preferences can change over time and they can grow in different directions, make different choices, discover new things that inspire or influence them, and recreate themselves. So these tests try to figure out who these people were based on past behavior and preferences, not who they are in the present. Who knows? You could have been really cranky the day you took the tests. I also think if your partner is someone too similar to you, it can get boring where there is nothing new to discover and learn from them.
I’m sure Are You the One edits out disagreements between perfect matches and tries to sell the matchmaking process as best they can. To me, this whole process is only loosely based on science. It is just an “experiment” with not enough to controls for it to be truly scientific. There is still a vast amount of research that is still being done to understand attraction and compatibility. The algorithm is probably still a work-in-progress. Love is magic. Science is magic. The science of love still hasn't been fully explored.
Does this mean that I will stop watching the show? HELL NO! It is still an entertaining concept and really fun for people who like analyzing the shit out of everything and seeing pretty people getting plastered.
Are You the One Match Predictions
So I made predictions of who the matches were last week. (You can read that post here). The results from the Truth Booth and match up ceremony have only confirmed these predictions,
I don't know why Hannah/Ozzy and Taylor/Andre are refusing to play the game. If they win the money, they can at least do something fun together with it. I guess they don't have enough faith in their relationships to trust their partners won't leave them if given time to get to know other people.
What the fuck happens week 9? I’m so nervous now.
FOLLOW YOUR HEART, SHANNON!! FOLLOW YOUR HEART!!! The house is full of idiots anyway.

So I’m changing my predictions. Here is a more realistic guess of who the perfect matches are.
.. and it breaks my heart because I just love the idea of sweet x savage (Shannon & Tyler) being a match so much. I know most people would rather have Carolina/Hayden as the 4th beam and the show is definitely suggesting that it is most likely them. That’s okay. I just have different feelings. Just preparing for the worst here. It will really break my heart to see sweet x savage get a “No Match” in the Truth Booth.
These 11 matches make more sense to me than the matches in my last post.

It’s funny if Tyler/Hannah were a match since she liked his scent and they won the getaway date in week 2. They both seem to always have something to say, so it does make sense. Just thank Alicia & Andre for getting voted into the Truth Booth instead of them. Tyler wouldn’t have connected with Shannon otherwise. Joey & Shannon are both playful and cute. I could imagine Joey pooping with the door open as Shannon has admitted to on her live Instagram. Makes sense. Casandra & Derrick also had that moment when they first met and she was counting his abs. They certainly have similarities in personality.
This is not the result I really want, but after analyzing a bit, I could see why it is a more plausible scenario.
I think these matchmakers are just looking for exact personality matches instead of matches that would create chemistry and synergy. It’s probably why most of their matches don’t end up together. There needs to be a little yin-yang, push-pull to create sparks in my humble opinion. But the matchmakers are the experts, right? God they suck. But hey. I would rather love be a mystery that scientists can’t really explain fully than something mathematically solvable so we never get to choose. I’m sure a lot of people like the idea of a perfect match being out there and that a love expert could guide you into a fail-safe situation. In truth, there is going to always be risk no matter how compatible you are with someone. It’s a risk you choose when you enter any relationship. No matter what, relationships will always take some work and personal growth to stay strong in the long run.

I’m still holding out hope for my babies Shannon & Tyler (aka savage x sweetheart) to be a match. I mean they have different personalities, but what if they end up being one of those confusing matches like S3 Amanda & Alec or Chuck & Melanie.
Honestly, the matchmaking process is probably a load of bullshit. The 2-3 perfect match couples that remained together could have been a fluke.

I think the reason Shannon & Tyler are one of my favourite S5 couples is because he is so grouchy and she is so bubbly yet they’re attracted to each other. That’s pretty funny and kind of complex.
