Photo Series: "Loose-Ties"

My class was asked to post a selfie onto our Instagram profiles for five consecutive days to challenge and stretch the concept of the “selfie” while still revealing something about our identity. I decided to take selfiies to show what I am undoubtedly bound to in my life.

We’ve all been to that place that envelops us. It is a strange feeling to be swallowed up by the surrounding environment and to be completely transfixed on what is ahead. The world is so large, and at times it makes us feel so alone.

This is my world.

"We often get swallowed up by our surroundings. When a person is faced with the environment beyond, a relationship forms between the individual and the expansive space. I believe this is very beautiful. It is the purpose of this photo series to capture that personal interaction. We can tell a lot about someone from their stature, their poise, and just their being in a photograph. We can interpret the storyline—what is happening in that captured moment of that person’s life based off of the little bit of information provided in the image. Viewing the world at large and its expansive beauty calls for a definitive response from any viewer, and witnessing the viewer personally experience this in these photographs calls for a response from within ourselves."
