I finished school today and rushed home, and then I found out there was an XFM do thing for Danny’s last show and so I rushed right back out again. On the train there I was reading ASFM and laughing out loud and on the way back I ate Cinnabon and made the carton in to a monster and then when I got to the train station I was holding my mug I got and a bottle of a few gulps of water so I just walked home drinking water out of an XFM mug
Okay so I got there and I had been stood around for ages and tried to speak to Danny but he hadn’t heard and then when I went to speak to Dyson instead Danny suddenly saw me and shouted “CARA!” and he reached across to me over someone’s shoulder and I was just like what do I do is this a handshake is this a high five so I just like grabbed his hand and squeezed it
I got a Confirmed Listener mug! And then I spoke to Work Experience Steve about how I wasn’t really a Confirmed Listener because I only really ever got to listen to the podcasts and he started going “Ah! A very well put together podcast, that. The editing. Wow.” and Danny said “You’d think it’d be something to do with the voice acting, really…” and Steve went “Oh, but the way all those clips are put together” and Danny laughed and said to me “Steve makes the podcast”
People started getting pictures with the team and I joined in on that so:
Danny goes “Cara wants a picture! Cara’s getting a picture” and it was like “Yep… I am” and then after it was taken Danny said “God, it’s like being at the Brits” (oh yeah I know that feeling yuh huh)
Then we got a group shot of EVERYONE (Danny’s camera is really posh he keeps it in this wallet type case specially designed for it) and I was at the back and behind everyone so I was like on tip toes and Dave was going “Jump! Jump in to shot!” and I thought I had and then I saw the photo and you can just see like half my face >.< I said “Can this be tweeted-” and Danny said “Oh it’ll be tweeted!” and I said “Yeah I was gonna say can this be tweeted with the line ‘Now that’s what I call a mugshot’” and he literally laughed like ‘ohohoho!’
People started offering to get me drinks which was nice and then it got kinda awkward and Danny came over to me and I said “I’ve told a load of people that I’m 15 but apparently not the people buying alcohol” or something like that and he said “Oh yeah, you’re 15! I forgot about that”. Then later on he overheard someone offering me a drink and he yelled over “SHE’S FIFTEEN!” ehe and then the guy who had gone to buy drinks bought them out and Danny went “Ooh, what’s this then” and without turning round I said “Oh yeah, he went to get shots” and Danny said “They don’t look like shots to me!” so I looked and the guy had a load of half pints. He handed one to Danny as a gift and said it was a Jagerbomb!!!! He asked what it tasted like and when everyone was describing it I said “Your mouth explodes” meaning the bomb thing but either no one heard or cared or got it or idk haha, also there was a shot of Jagerbomb like… INSIDE it? And I pointed it out and Danny hadn’t realised. Danny: “I’ve never had one of these before!” Me: “We’re in the same boat.” Danny: “You’re 15!!”
Joe from Dartford was there too and he’s 6”6 and funny :D And there was a guy who said yes for a year and ended up in a camper van to France and a battle of the bands in Glasgow! Billy from Billericay showed us his tattoos, they’re all over him but he can still dress to cover them if he likes because they end at his wrists and don’t go to his neck and he’s go a tiger along his side and he kept showing it to everyone and Matt Dyson reached forward and I go “Are you going to… stroke it…” and he said “I was actually thinking of it” and then just poked him and Billy said “I asked the tattoo artist for a cross between The Jungle Book and the Frosties tiger and this is what happened”
Then Steve did a rap that I’ll put here later in a video oooo
Danny signed Awkward Situations For Men as it’s the only book of his I haven’t had signed yet and he wrote in silver pen “Great to see you again Cara! 21-12-12, the final day of The Breakfast Show!!” and I said how I think it being 20/12/2012 the other day was much more interesting than 12/12/12. He said how everyone was going a bit insane over 12/12/12 but agreed that there’s something about 20/12/2012 that actually sounds nice. I said “Yeah exactly, it’s still not because it’s like the only time it’ll happen or anything like that though” and he said “Well yeah, because for a start it’s not, we’ll get 12/12/12 in a hundred years again” and Dave I think just went “That’s how time works!”
I got my mug signed (Steve wrote ‘A true podcast listener!’) and so did Joe but Joe asked them to all write the rudest thing they could think of - which they did, more in another post haha. Here is some space for me to add other things I remember:
Okay when I finally got a chance to ask Danny how he was I said “We haven’t seen each other in ages!” and he said “May!!” and I was really surprised so I said “I’m… I’m surprised you remember” and he said “To be fair, it was my book launch”
Steve’s left handed but when he was writing everyone just thought he was drunk and then he misspelt ‘Thanks’
I MET ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO COUNT AS ‘COLIN’ OMG
I was talking about ASFM and how it’s written and Danny said that he had to thank this guy and the guy was like ‘Oh yeah he just comes to me for morsels of inspiration’ and I was saying ‘Does Danny just write up all the stuff that happens to you?’ and Danny said ‘Really though, we go for a pint and within like five minutes I’ve got a story’ and I went ‘… Are you Colin?’ and they both started going ‘oh no no don’t say that no no definitely not!’ and then Danny leaned back to me and muttered ‘maybe’
And back to the normal post!
Danny and Dave were given more Jagerbombs ^ and people started taking pictures which has reminded me I missed out some picture stuff - Danny started taking pictures of us! First he took a group shot of everyone who came along and then he was getting pictures of the more well known listeners with other people and then he started taking pictures of people with their drinks and he turned to me and I said “I think I’m too sober for this” and he laughed and took a picture of me anyway so… that’ll be fun to see! And some people accidentally were filming rather than taking pictures and so “Make sure you’re not filming” became a thing that was said every time someone got their camera out and “MUGS APLENTY!” was yelled a lot (I yelled it when they got their second Jagerbombs)
And then I thought I better head off so I hugged people goodbye (Matt Dyson gives really good hugs, he said he really liked speaking to me yay :3) and Dave said he hoped he saw me again soon and Danny was like “Aw no are you going!” and we hugged and then he were just like looking at each other and I was thinking this guy is SO COOL so I just said “awww” and hugged him again. I asked for his email too because I want to message him about my writing and I was telling him how I want something on preorder for New Year’s Day (he’s the first person I told) and that I’ve got a guy doing artwork and everything and then I got kind of all caught up so I was just saying it’d be better to email him about it. We got a last picture together and said goodbye and I am very happy.
