I'm a 20-something year old bridge engineer, starting grad school this spring.

I'm a first year in college and I didn't go to a good high school so my math and science skills aren't the strongest but I want to be an engineer. I think that math is interesting but I'm not good at it, do you think it's plausible to be an engineer?

Yeah, math is a tool that you're going to use frequently. You don't have to be the best at it, just good enough to know what's needed when you need it. In practice, the actual math you use isn't anything complex. It's mostly just writing equilibrium equations and applying mechanics of materials knowledge.

Science isn’t a person. It’s a tool. It doesn’t “try to prove god is real or fake”, whatever your idea of a god is, whatever it claims to be and do, is prone to its own faults and errors like any conceived notions of man including science itself without science doing much of anything except providing humanity with working observations and theories (note: working, not perfect) to go by. Many times these observations make the need for anthropocentric gods more and more useless not because science wants to do that, but because the claims have been explained by something else or scraped from the realm of truth all together and it is up to us to choose whether we believe it or not but our choices don’t change what truth that was no matter how much we may hate the findings. No scientist gains some sort of check each time they try to prove god doesn’t exist, there’s no gain there unless you’re a troll. The gain is in the churches that manipulate and mislead innocents who’s only error was taking scriptures too literally which is completely fine for those who psychologically need it so long as you’re not causing harm to others. The gain is in wanting to figure out how things work and the feeling one gets from understanding even if it’s a small amount of understanding. I am almost certain what people like the person above are more angry about is the fact that their belief is not so sound and reasonable as they initially thought it was and any tool that helps humanity come closer to truths is bashed by this sort of mindset that claims science is the ‘asshole’ here. Yet these are probably the same people who rely on the advances made by science almost every day. You stay shut when they do good for you and account these things as divinity and faith working its magic, and speak out in rage whenever it contradicts what your scriptures tell you. A true person of science understands it’s not a perfect tool and it isn’t definitive but it is very fucking helpful in many ways that can help our lives and aid us into a new age of understanding. Religion can be just as entwined with science as art is if we start placing the efforts to use a little truth in the things we have faith in. Let’s not ‘fuck science’, let’s fund it.
