I work in a deli and I'm not sure if this falls under fast food or retail.. but.. i'm gonna go with fast food, if that's okay.
For those of you that don't know, all lunchmeat is pressed together. All of it. It dosen't come off a turkey or a pig or a chicken looking like that weird shape you see in our case. It simply doesn't.
Krakus Polish Ham is the second worst thing you could get if you're getting lunch meat. At least, in our meat case. It's steamed ham. Vacuumed sealed. With a smidge of some kind of weird water/ham juice/unknown grossness.
So, this customer comes up to the case and proceeds to order a half pound of the reduced sodium Krakus. Fantastic. I slice it for her, she's happy. Then, when i ask if she'd like anything else she mumbles something about how she's looking for a turkey. We have a large selection of turkey breasts. In an effort to be helpful, I mention we started carrying a new oven roasted turkey breast that's low sodium if she's trying to watch her salt intake (as evidenced by the ham).
She looks up at me, and this happens: Lady(grumpy): But, it it heavily processed? I don't want anything that's heavily processed. Me: Well, everything in our case is processed. That's just the nature of lunchmeat, ma'am. But, it is made of turkey breast. Lady(pissed): Then no. That's gross. *starts walking away* Me: Oh I'm sorry, have a good da- Lady(stopping abruptly, rasing her voice slightly): Wait a damn minute! I want cheese too! Me: Oh! I'm sorry! What would you like? Lady: Half a pound of yellow american cheese!
Our yellow american says "Made of Cheese Product"
*headdesk*
