I saw the Flaming Lips tonight!!! I cried as soon as they started playing the first song Race for the Prize. Tons of confetti and fog shooting out of cannons, a crazy psychedelic light show, balloons bouncing all over the crowd. Then they brought out the giant robot and Wayne had us all sing along and karate chop “Hey! Hey!”. Everyone was so happy to hear She Don’t Use Jelly. Then out of nowhere they cover a Daniel Johnston song and I start crying again. Wayne put on these giant hands and was shooting lasers into the crowd and onto the giant disco ball. Everyone danced like crazy for Yeah Yeah Yeah Song. They closed with Do you Realize and everyone was so happy, I cried again. I’ve been wanting to see them for over 10 years now. A dream come true. They even gave me the set list at the end of the show!

We did kind of talk amongst ourselves [on the set that day], like, ‘It seems weird that the one episode that we’re on is such a disaster that there’s no way it will air.’ It just didn’t seem possible it could work! We saw them saying lines, and they would do them five or six times, and everybody at the end of the badly done — from our perception, anyway — takes, everybody’d kinda be like, ‘Yeah, whatever.’ Yay. No big celebration. It just kind of felt like yet another grueling day on the set. And we thought, ‘That probably won’t air, and nobody will see us.’ And three weeks later, it’s on TV and it looks wonderful! All the things we thought seemed like a disaster were just business as usual.
