When I think about the appeal that Kurama and Hiei hold for me as individual characters, I think a lot of the fascination comes from being unable to pin down a solid feeling about their moral alignment. I can never decide to what extent I think they’re truly heroic and to what extent I think they are, at least sometimes, bad people struggling to do or be good.
