004a: SHIPGAMERAWR

the point of playing the ship game for a L11 Class Change is to get the fangs that cast spells, so that the fixed battles can be dealt with easily.

the problem is ive been completed at least 20 games and I've yet to obtain even one! I'm very close to giving up and just playing normally. or at least, grind for money to buy spells, instead of going for level ups. thou right now the ship game is providing me a steady if not meager source of cash...

004: Whatever floats your boat

The mountain loomed over them, evenly splitting the path left and right. On the left, the rocky road led down into a valley, with the shadow of the mountain and rampant greenery growth shrouding it in gloominess. The opposite trail veered east and upwards, sandwiched between steep slopes and sheer cliffs. The distant crashing of waves far beneath the cliffs clashed with the deadened silence of the forest.

As they pondered which path, a tiny prickling crawled through Nina's skin. She could feel that the aura emanated from deeper within the forest.

"Well, it's better than anything to go on," she ventured.

Gasping, the group stumbled away from the forest. They had spent the last two hours dashing past rows and rows of trees, trying to escape from the massive ogres crashing after them.

"There!" Leon pointed at an opening in the mountainside. "Let's hide in that cave!"

Running through the hole, Mikoto's foot snagged on her robe, and sent her tumbling down rough-hewed steps. Shouting her name, the rest hurtled after her as she rolled further down the tunnel.

As you can see, I went to Matoya's Cave first, which served no purpose (except snagging me 2 Potions and an Antidote, which helped saved some money) for now. So now the team's in Pravoka, and apparently, pirates are terrorising the town. Hmmmm.

Bikke's pirates were easy, especially with BM's Sleep. Except that I resetted a couple of times to get Mikoto some MP on her level up.

So now I'm stuck grinding the ship game for Gil, to at least buy Haste in Elfheim. This marathon/endurance run/whatever its called isn't going so well, only because I'm chafing to play the other games. Maybe I should just not try for Level 11 Class Change Challenge and play normally instead...

003: Garland's gonna knock you UP

With only 2 more exp to L3, it was better to run the party around outside Garland's castle to try and get better HP boosts through soft resets, instead of leveling with Garland's defeat. It might result in the rare Longsword dropping with unsatisfactory HP gains.

After about 10 resets, I settled with 20+ HP gain to Zeon and Mikoto, the best I'd seen so far. Zeon now leads the party, since the first member gets hit 50% of the time. Zeon L3 89HP Leon L3 66HP Mikoto L3 87HP Nina L3 27HP Seriously, if Nina ever gets struck by a breeze to her face..

Ugh. I'm pretty sure I've reset the game over 30 times but still Garland won't drop his Longsword. What happened on the last attempt was that Mikoto got killed, resulting in enough exp for the other 3 to level up again. Except this time those 3 managed to grab 25+ HP from their level up, and I don't think I'm gonna pass that up.

Across Cornelia's bridge we go!

002: Dangerous to go alone

Crystals clutched in their hands, the four friends were ushered hurriedly through the castle domain, eventually standing before the King. Only moments before had they passed through the gates into the city of Cornelia, looking forward to a hot meal and comfortable beds.

Confusion? More like bewilderment.Leon chanced a glance at his brother, whose expression mirrored his own. Life in their small village had been days simply passing by, and the call of adventure was too enticing to ignore. Convincing his twin to leave took little effort, and they decided to head for the nearest city to experience its bustling excitement.

Meeting the sisters was no coincidence, he believed. Mikoto and Nina had the same thought as them, hailing from another village between theirs and Cornelia. Together they managed to reach the city without much trouble, given the teeming hordes of Goblins infesting the surrounding forests.

And now, the king has asked of them a momentous task, to save his daughter that had been kidnapped by their best swordsman turned rogue.

"Maybe things will start picking up once we're heroes for rescuing Princess Sarah," Leon reflected. --ff1--

I wanted something significantly different from my first playthrough, which was Warrior, Thief, Monk, Black Mage. It's why I chose a second Warrior over Thief again. I went with White over Red Mage due to Red not being able to learn any Level 8 spells, though I'm a little bothered with how White will probably suck at attacking. In random encounters, I normally hit Attack for everyone to get through as fast as possible. It's going to be slower with a White this time.

For Black, I bought Fire, Thunder, Sleep. Focus is kind of useless. For White, Cure, Dia, Blink. I chose Dia instead of Protect to give White some options in attacking, although right now Mikoto's doing way more damage than Nina with Attack.

Rapiers for both Warriors, a Hammer for White, and I kept Knife for Black, because the idea of a stabbity Black sounds better to me. With that, it's off to save Princess Sarah from Garland! The group leveled up once, somehow with Leon, Zeon and Mikoto getting 20+ HP (lucky). Nina's only went up by 1, sadly.

Right now I'm killing Garland over and over trying to get his Longsword drop. Hopefully the weapon will give me an easier time, as I think I'll try to go for a L11 Class Change.

001: The Beginning

2012. The year the world was supposed to end. It is also the year of something that has been a mainstay through my life.

The 25th Anniversary. Of Final Fantasy.

To be honest, and ashamedly, I haven't been paying much attention to it, many reasons bogging me down. A few days ago my friend notified me of the just released In Memorial 25th Anniversary FF Ultimanias, which contain every single FF from 1 to 14. Naturally I had to get them, and they are now proudly sitting on my desk.

That's when I decided to do a playthrough of all the numbered Final Fantasies, starting from FF1. I guess it's kind of a New Year's resolution. You see, I have every numbered FF, with the exception of 8 (because I hate it), but 9 and 13 are the only ones I've truly completed. I've got my characters in 1, 6, 7, 10, and 10-2 sitting right on the doorsteps of their respective final dungeons, while the rest are mingling somewhere in the middle of their games. It eats at me, having uncompleted games.

Thus, this resolution is a way for me to finish them once and for all.

On to Final Fantasy 1!

Ah. Dawn of Souls. Leafing through my old save, I remembered playing this in middle-school, having the 4 warriors of light named after my best friends and me then. Knight, Ninja, Monk, Black Wizard. YEAH. My first time playing FF1 and I did NOT pick White Mage. Well, the main questline isn't that hard, but I did clear some of the Soul of Chaos dungeons. Somehow. I think I must have spammed tons of Potions and Hi-Potions to stay alive.

Right, new game. After much debating I selected Warrior, Warrior, White Mage, Black Mage this time. Didn't want to spend too much time on names, so I used the auto-name system, though with slight alterations.

Leon the Warrior, and his brother Zeon! Mikoto the White, and Nina the Black! I went with portraying my two mages as female.

Their story begins.
