Lincoln thought back to the last time he’d been here, when Peter had thanked him for treating him like a human being while so many others didn’t. At the time, Lincoln called them friends, but as he removed his coat, he questioned how much of that was still true.

thank you for treating me like a human being.

Fringe AU where Peter, Lincoln and Alt!Lincoln work as a team.
So far away.
The bridge between the universes is closed, and for all that he has Olivia back, Peter still feels like something is missing in his life. It’s a rather fundamental piece, and he can’t place it; he should be happy, he has what he wanted, what he felt he needed. It doesn’t hit him until Astrid gives him a picture of him and Lincoln, and they’re both smiling, and Lincoln’s wearing the glasses that Peter bought for him. (He’s still not really over the fact that he thought for days about what glasses Linc would look best in.)
And he realizes then that what’s missing is Lincoln, and he’ll never get him back, and that changes everything.
PETER: Once I get in to see Walternate, you should probably take off, head back to the opera house before they figure out you’re not who you say you are. LINCOLN: You’ve been there before, their D.o.D. It was in your debrief with Broyles after you showed-up. PETER: Yeah, Walternate wanted to keep me close when I was working on the machine. LINCOLN: In his secure room. You said that’s where he kept his classified files. If you worked in it, you must know how to get into it. PETER: Why are we talking about this, Lincoln? LINCOLN: Just tell me where it’s located, Peter. PETER: Oh, I don’t believe this. LINCOLN: You don’t have to be involved. PETER: Of course they’re gonna think I’m involved! You’re about to ruin the best chance… LINCOLN: I didn’t come this far… to go back empty-handed! PETER: That I have to get back home!
It’s been a pleasure working with you, Lincoln. And getting to be your friend.
Sometimes we’ve no choice but to walk away.
Reassuring Peter is reassuring.
