It is with great sadness that we at Sugarman.org announce that Sixto Diaz Rodriguez has passed away earlier today.
Rodriguez was an avid user of the Detroit Public Library, he will be greatly missed.

the music of Rodriguez is so important. it’s haunting, deep, melancholy, though-provoking, thankfully original and honest. every time I return to any song I’m reminded how unique and introspective he is as an artist, a person, a poet.
Looks like a great night! Revisiting the city where he made his second album. From Rod’s FB page.

Searching For Sugar Man (2012)
This is one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen it, do NOT watch the trailers, because they spoil the movie. Just go see it, knowing as little as possible about it. It’s just amazing.

Hate is too strong an emotion to waste on someone you don’t even like.
Sixto Rodriguez (via sapphic-songs)
There was an American musician in the 1970s who sold very few records in the US, so he quit music and became a demolition worker; in 1998, he found out that his records had gone platinum in South Africa.
