Lemongrass and Limeleaves by Sasha Keable

Sasha Keable is a relatively new singer who just released this EP for free on her website. She has a smooth R&B sound that reminds me a lot of Solange’s True EP.

"Living Without You" is a strong opener and the most pop-inspired - it initially sounds upbeat, but the lyrics betray the brighter production. The EP as a whole is kind of a meditation on losing love, or the possibility of love. "Memory," the second track, lingers on what could have been and holding on to whatever there was.

The closer on the EP, “6’4,” is a contrast to the other tracks: whereas the previous songs focused more on love lost, this is focuses on the act of losing love. The small things that start to take it apart while you hope it can get better.

I’ve been saying it on practically every track that pops up: 2014 is the year of heartbreak. This is another strong entry into that pantheon this year is building. Sasha Keable has phenomenal vocals and thoughtful lyrics - I’m surprised she’s just giving this album away (there’s another album she released earlier for free on her website, too, and it’s just as a strong a body of work - check them both out).
