So, maybe things are shit right now and you’ve been really sad, but it’s for a reason. The good and bad are both meant to be. You’re learning how to cope, how to manage, how to grow, how to keep going when things aren’t perfect. There IS balance though, and things will look up again and I’m sure you’ll have a moment (or hopefully plenty) where it all makes sense and you sigh and think, ‘That was all totally worth it.’

1. Wash your sheets every two weeks, I promise you’ll sleep better. 2. If a boy breaks your heart, it’s okay to cry. 3. If a girl breaks your heart, it’s okay to cry. 4. School is important, but there are many things you can’t learn in a classroom. Pursue them. 5. Find your passion, and run with it. 6. No, you don’t need to lose weight. 7. You are beautiful without make up. 8. You are beautiful with make up. 9. Being a good person will never go out of style 10. Buy yourself flowers if you’re feeling sad. 11. Getting enough sleep is very important. 12. Drinking water has so many benefits 13. Believe in fairytales, believe in love, and allow no one to steal your magic. 14. Reading is good for the soul. 15. I am not here to judge you, but I will always support what I think is best for you. 16. I appreciate you. 17. I am proud of you. 18. Even on your worst days, you will never disappoint me. 19. I love you no matter what.
19 Things I Will Tell My Daughter (via bl-ossomed)
Go to a party and stay sober. Listen to the way your drunk classmates talk when they don’t plan to remember tonight when they wake up. Never talk about these experiences, just keep them for yourself. Start driving in one direction on the highway after school one day, pretending like you’re running away. Blast bad pop music and sing along. Stop in the suburbs when your mom calls you to come home, but buy your little brother a cupcake before you turn back around. Kiss your best friend. It doesn’t matter what sexuality or gender you are or they are. It doesn’t matter if it’s a peck or you escalate to tongue. You’ll laugh about it later, but it will always make you smile just for the memory. Smoke a cigarette. Let it burn your throat. Cough, loudly. Take a stand for something you believe in. When half your school laughs at you, take it with pride. Someone agrees, even if they’re too scared to say so. Make enemies. Make the kind of mistakes that cause your life to implode. Lose everyone and everything to these mistakes. Only when you fall will you find out that you can pick yourself back up. Sit on someone’s roof and talk for hours. Forget about dinner and tell your origin stories. Let your guard down while the dog barks below. Talk about god. Listen. Steal Bourbon from your parents’ liquor cabinet and put it in a water bottle beneath your bathroom sink. Spike your tea with it when you think you’ve hit rock bottom. Pour the whole thing down the drain when it’s too strong for you. Become a stereotype. Buy a record player and combat boots. Wear all black. Dye your hair bright blue and get your ear pierced three times. Don’t care when people laugh at you. Make wishes at 11:11. Wear your pajamas backwards in the hopes of a snow day. Look for answers at the bottom of a bottle. Pretend writing things on your arms makes you special. Believe in anything. Believe in everything. Open every book and look around every corner. You’ll never look like this or move like this or think like this again. Enjoy it while it lasts or hate every second. But feel. Feel every damn thing.
Top Ten Things to do Before You Graduate High School by M.S. (via bl-ossomed)
Nineteen things I’ve learned before I turned nineteen. 1. Always carry $5 and a lighter with you (even if you don’t smoke). 2. Ask every person you meet how their day is going. Genuinely ask with the soul intention of learning how their day is. Ask the coffee shop employee. Ask the person next to you in line at Walmart. Ask your distant friend. Ask everyone. 3. Take many photos of yourself. Take photos of yourself when you’re happy. Take photos of yourself when you’re sad. Take photos of yourself because there are millions of trees in the world, and we all look at the same sky, but there is only one of you. 4. Stay in contact with your parents. Try not to hate them. They are the reason you have the ability to feel anything at all. Try not to hate your parents. 5. Opening your skin will not set your demons free. Open your heart. Open your mind. Open your hands. 6. Nobody knows anybody completely. That’s okay. 7. Be gentle, but be aggressive. Take a stand. Nobody hears your voice if you stay silent. 8. Respect everybody. We are all humans trying to survive. We all deserve respect. 9. Wearing black will ALWAYS make you feel better about yourself. 10. Always give tips, whether it be a couple extra dollars or a piece of mind. You never know how much you could be helping someone. 11. Change is the only thing consistent in life. Do not allow that bother you. Embrace chance and move with life, whichever direction it chooses to take you. 12. Smile often. Smile at strangers. Smile at your friends. Smile when nobody is looking and you’re alone in your bedroom. Smile when somebody is rambling to you. 13. Body image means nothing. Your body is merely just a seatbelt in the car. Your body is here to protect you. You choose the direction you go, and your body will not hold you back. Only you can hold yourself back. 14. Don’t hold grudges. Don’t allow yourself to hate anybody. Forgive them. Learn to love them for the person you never got to see them to be. Believe that a beautiful human exists in that person. Wish them well. 15. Drink orange juice. Lot’s of it. 16. Don’t allow the opinions of others to choose your destiny. We are all simply trying to live our own life. 17. Sing all the time. Sing off key. Sing in a silly voice. Sing like you’re on stage. Sing no matter who is around. Singing is breathing for the soul. Sing. 18. Take time to think. Write your feelings down. Write letters to the people you love. Texting is overrated and not as heartfelt as a nice handwritten letter. 19. Live for yourself. Breathe for yourself. Do everything in your life for nobody but you. This is your life. This is it.

little things that actually make a difference to general life happiness: •drinking lots of water •eating fresh fruit •thinking positively about yourself and others •washing your face twice a day •changing your sheets once a week •hot baths with Epsom salts •face masks using from things in your house •sleeping more than 7 hours per night •reorganizing your clothes, makeup, possessions etc •keeping your living space clean
How would your life be different if… You stopped making negative judgmental assumptions about people you encounter? Let today be the day… You look for the good in everyone you meet and respect their journey.

When I told you we had to end it, that we had to go on our own separate paths, I wanted you to say no. I wanted you to tell me you would never let me go. I wanted you to say that you couldn’t imagine living life without me, that you would never love anyone as much as you loved me, even if it sounds a little selfish. I wanted you to fight for me, to stop me from leaving. But all you said was, “I’ve been thinking the same thing for a while now.”
Oh my gosh. I’m crying. This, exactly this. (via missinyouiskillingme)
1. push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise. 2. push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable. 3. get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else. 4. stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything. 5. buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice. 6. buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small. 7. strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full. 8. organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle. 9. have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck. 10. push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog. 11. message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through. 13. think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything. 14. become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends. 15. lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.

A self care list. I’ve been working on this. I promise it’s worth it.

To everyone who says that “mental illness aren’t that serious, and you shouldn’t miss school, because you’re probably making it up anyways” Have you ever sat in your room shaking and staring with blurred vision at the textbooks that lie on your bed? Have you ever felt yourself gasping for air when your math teacher tells you to answer a question on the board? Have you ever etched words of your english assignment on your skin instead of paper? Have you ever thought about ending it all because you have three overdue assignments plus two from tonight? Tell the woman sitting on the brown leather couch that holds a pen in hand and has watched me pull on my hair when I begin to talk about school, how much more important English class is. Tell the paramedics that are on a first name basis with me. Tell my teachers who are now trained to keep an eye on one of my classmates because they’r afraid he might stab himself in the neck with a pencil if they give him too much homework. I dare you to look me in the eye and tell me I’m faking it. Pull up my sleeves and look at my mutilated skin and tell me I’m only doing it for attention, even though the only people who know I do this to myself are my best friend and the doctor who had to stitch up my wrists. Tell me. No, you know what? Tell your sister to stop bleeding because she’s getting blood all over her history report. Tell your cousin, that a C isn’t a reason to act like a fish out of water. Tell your best friend as she they pull her out of school in a gurney to that she should get over it, and as the ambulance starts driving to the hospital don’t forget to remind her to study for her biology final. I dare you to watch me during school, pull up my sleeves, look me in the eye and tell me that school is more important than my sanity.

I. do not text him. he lied when you said the two of you could stay friends, don’t act so surprised. and if you do text him, absolutely do not tell him that you miss him because you don’t, not really. he would not have torn your heart apart like this when you first met, the boy you miss no longer exists. II. follow his damn Instagram, you can’t avoid his memory forever. and when he posts a picture of her, saying he loves her more than anything he’s ever loved before, stare until that tree-branch feeling in your gut turns to ash and gets swept away. III. stand in front of the mirror, look in your own eyes and think his name. think about how it tasted at 2:36 in the morning, think about when you said it and he would come running. when the thoughts don’t turn your stomach inside out, say it out loud. you need to learn how to hear it and not flinch. IV. please remember that your body is made up of 37 trillion cells, but some people say it’s only 15 trillion. he didn’t know any better. he could not have possibly known any better. find someone who cares enough to remind you to take your pills. V. you will laugh and it will hurt. this is good. keep laughing, keep hurting. I want you to cry until they mistake the rivers flowing from beneath your bedroom door for the bottom of the ocean. sink your feet in the sand, baby, because that’s the only way you will be able to push yourself back up. VI. read a book that reminds you of everything you ever loved about him. then read a book and fall in love with someone who is completely the opposite. sweetheart, all you need is some perspective. VII. kiss other boys but do not kiss them all. do not lose respect for your body because he decided to leave it out in the cold. you are still so special. do not let them take that from you because he was too stupid to let you down easy. you can dream about breaking their hearts but don’t actually do it because that won’t break his. VIII. grind your teeth and get the hell out of bed. this is not a war, this is your life. you’re not a hero, you’re not a victim, and neither is he. so stop believing that you need to be saved because in case you haven’t noticed your head is above water. that’s all that counts. being above water.

I no longer have the energy for meaningless friendships, forced interactions or unnecessary conversations. If we don’t vibrate on the same frequency there’s just no reason for us to waste our time. I’d rather have no one and wait for substance than to not feel someone and fake the funk.
