WotD Short Story
“And done.” I sigh with relief as I set my brush down. My painting for the annual art show is finally finished! It’s beautiful in everyway and when you look at it, you can feel the emotions it was painted with; the heartbreak, the anguish, the relief. My instincts tell me to share the finished product with my friends and family until I remember what everyone had been saying this past week. No one believes I can win the art contest but for what reason? My art is good. Sure it’s abstract, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it has meaning and emotion. Hindered by their words that won’t stop repeating in my head, I sit adjacent to my window, doubting my abilities. Suddenly, I notice an illuminous streak shooting across the dim night sky. A small smile makes its way onto my face before I squeeze my eyes shut and I quickly make my wish. Some may consider this childish but, my Grandmother always insisted shooting stars would make any wish come true. Any time she would see one, her eyes would light up with ecstasy as she stopped everything to have that moment. Slowly opening my eyes I was graciously met with yet another sign of luck as a ladybug crawled across my window, just under the star. Suddenly, I could feel my grandmother’s presence and I was filled with esperance.
