Yu’s friends took turns spending the day with Nanako. It made things a little easier and more importantly, she was happy, but Ryotaro supposed it was more than just a visit from friends. Work hadn’t gotten any easier, but there was something stronger between Nanako and him.
He looked up from his newspaper. The television was on, both Nanako and Shirogane were seated on the cushions, talking among themselves. Rain fell heavily outside from dark storm clouds, each drop making a splash and spraying the glass. Strong gusts accompanied it and he was thankful the laundry had been taken in.
His eyes lingered on Shirogane, then back at the window. It was about time for her to leave, but in good conscience, he couldn’t allow her to walk home alone in this weather. Even taking the car felt dangerous. He pursed his lips, then turned the page and once his ears caught the faint, but familiar jingle of an advertisement, he finally spoke.
“Shirogane, why don’t you stay over? It’s not safe for anyone to be traveling in this weather. We have a spare bedroom, too.”
