RULEBOOK.
This is a roleplay blog for Kaname Kei from the series Oblivion Battery! I am up to date with the most recent chapters of the manga, thus this blog won’t be spoiler-free. For convenience’s sake and unless stated otherwise, the period most interactions will take place in is between the end of Kotesashi’s summer tournament in their first year, and before the beginning of the next summer tournament in their second year.
Both parts of Kei are largely as canon compliant as I can possibly be, with most headcanons filling out the spaces that the manga leaves blank. The only somewhat divergent aspect of his characterization is his DID, which I try to make a bit more in line with what I’ve researched and read than how it’s generally depicted in canon.
With that said, I am a singlet and don’t experience DID myself! There’s much that I stress is particular with Kei’s system and experience. With that said, if I veer in the direction of something too out there or even harmful/offending, please let me know!
I’m also still in the process of familiarizing myself with baseball as a sport, its rules and structure, and the culture around it especially in Japan. Once again, if I get anything wrong, please let me know.
I’m also familiarizing myself with Japan and the Tokyo Metropolis, including the culture, politics, and the social history especially around baseball as a phenomenon, national sport, and institution. I did not grow up in Japan nor have proximity to the culture, so apologies for any errors I make and feel free to notify me as well!
Unsurprisingly, Kei’s mental health isn’t all that great, especially when the Commander is the one fronting. Expect themes of depression, memory loss, dissociation, and suicidal ideation. The Master is also stuck in comphet hell until further notice. There’s probably more triggering themes out there, I just don’t know them yet.
This is a sideblog attached to tomatorphub, and will more or less be following back from there!
Despite Kei’s occasional humor, this blog is largely safe-for-work. Furthermore, he’s a minor, unless stated otherwise in specific threads. So don’t get weird in that way with him! I ship based on chemistry (and only within Kei’s age range), but I headcanon Kei having always been fixated on Haruka for a very long time, so the likelihood of anything happening is next to nothing. He’s here to make friends! That’s all.
I’m not the muse nor either of his alters, so please don’t take his words for mine.
This blog is very selective and private, and will only be interacting with those I follow back! I may even softblock certain followers, though if I do please don’t take this personally; I just prefer to keep my audience small and only to those I’m interested in interacting with. My nerves are unfortunately very shot.
Miss me with that generative AI nonsense. It does not belong on this field!
If there’s anything you’re curious about, just ask!

The Wise Commander, they had called him back in junior high; one half of a genius battery completed with pitcher and childhood friend, Kiyomine Haruka. The two were slated to enter the prestigious Youmeikan High School in Osaka, cementing their path to becoming the greatest battery of Japan.
What isn’t so obvious is the pressure and devotion it takes to become the merciless tactician on the field he had become. One day, upon being faced with the weight of carrying another’s future on his back, he finds himself a fraud and caught. In that moment, Kei decides he would like to forget it all.
Kaname Kei awakens with no memory of the sport that defined his childhood and adolescence.
Baseball had torn his mind and heart apart, and Kei had initially wanted nothing more to do with it despite not remembering a single thing about the game. Yet on his first day in Kotesashi, his past and future call upon him to step up to the plate once more.
The past refuses to be struck out so easily, after all.

Kaname Kei has a Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), with his psyche divided into four parts. Of these four parts, two of them form alters that regularly front, taking turns usually (though not always) when the other tires out. These two alters are referred to as the Master, and the Commander.
Master
Upbeat, ditzy, and a self-professed comedian (heavy on the self-professed). The Kei who awakens with no memory to his name on that fateful day, and who’s had to relearn the sport he once commanded from scratch. Though he complains a lot from the work and his muscles that ache at the end of the day, he’s not a quitter– after all, he’s worked this hard to fall in love with baseball all over again.
Commander
Watchful and careful, often guarding himself with an easy yet condescending smile; this is the Kei who holds the memory of all the skill and knowledge in baseball accumulated over the years, the Kei who had made a name for himself as the Wise Commander, the Kei who is tired and would like nothing more than to disappear. He claims his only purpose now is to nurture his alter’s baseball education, to be surpassed and allowed to fade from existence. If only getting to know the rest of team Kotesashi wasn’t making this hard.
Two distinct personalities that almost seem like polar opposites, at first glance; one trapped in memory, one who seeks to understand it. Despite these contrasts, at heart, both make up the fractured yet whole identity of Kaname Kei.
