Holden looked at the sky and wondered what was beyond the feathery clouds that tried to envelope the Earth. “It’s an immense universe out there,” he thought, trying to fix his red hunting hat, “and here I am living a phony life.” His hands were wrapped around him since it was cold, and December has just started blowing its cold breeze. The clouds were moving quite slowly, and the sun was nowhere to be found, at least, to Holden’s point of view. He was desperate for something, but his mind was too caught up with many things, he did not know what to look for. The coldness was taking its toll, causing him to shiver, so he fumbled a cigarette stick from his pocket and lit it up, still looking at the expanse of the blue sky. “The known universe is so vast, I am but a speck of an atom compared to the immensity of it. But why do I still feel so alone?” His mind was cluttered, he cannot think straight. His chest was starting to feel heavy with emotions he cannot fully understand, and all he did was puff more smoke from the cigarette.
Lots of questions started running around Holden’s mind, so he went straight to the nearest tree and bumped his head against its trunk. The physical pain he felt did not amount to the emotional pain he was feeling, he figured. Holden sat down underneath the shades of the tree and looked at the sky again.”I just need someone to talk to,” he concluded, “I guess I have to leave this place to figure out what I really need.”
