Can someone please help me make sure I’m getting this right?

So there’s this picture from FT volume 11 - “Concerto of Encounters”, and I’ve been trying to find the text that goes along with it, but with little luck. I did find this little bit here, and it says (according to Google translate…):

“At this time back to the AC era, in the Eastern European battlefield of the Earth, an anonymous child is reading in MS, he is a boy who will be called Trowa Barton in the future. The child stayed on the battlefield from an early age, he was used to this day, and his free time was to read a book. A child’s comrade-in-arms came to talk to the child and introduced the book of the child’s description of homosexuality. This is a very sketchy translation, hardly reliable, so can anyone please help me confirm any of this? Especially the East Europe reference and that bit about a homoerotic novel?

TLDR: The linked Chinese blog is a recap not a direct translation, but beyond that things get weird...

(Full Disclosure here: I do not read Chinese. I just recognize enough characters to navigate) So Google translate is giving you ‘homosexuality’ because that’s what ‘同性戀’ literally means. It is also being used as a descriptor of the book. Since this is a recap though, this feels like it’s probably the blogger’s opinion. Trowa is reading “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” so... (For those unaware, Dorian Gray is hella gay, and the author, the infamous Oscar Wilde, was even gayer.) I don’t think the Japanese authors intended to imply he was learning about homosexuality, especially because there’s multiple mentions made that he doesn’t really understand the book. (The English summaries of this scene say it mostly talks about Trowa having bad self-preservation). How careful the Japanese staff has been about relationship implications in GW so far...it seems unlikely they’d throw that out just as a fun tidbit.

[To be fair though, without the the OG Japanese text it is impossible to know what is actually being said about the book. This is just my educated guess] Interestingly enough, a main theme of Dorian Gray is the horrible cost of achieving eternal youth, which is an interesting and dickish thing to give a child solider (”no one should live forever”), but I digress... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Eastern Europe might actually have some basis, even if this is a recap. There are a lot of supplemental materials that flat out state Catherine is Russian, so... that might have some merit why child Trowa would be bumming around Eastern Europe. Depends on what you consider “canon,” I suppose. #2cents
