I've been doing a lot more writing and observing as of late. Since this blog is basically my "non-art" blog, and things can get mixed in, I decided to make this pinned post that has all my more personal posts about this series.
Personal = original essays/observations made by myself. You can find all the reblogs and sillier posts if you just use the "tsukutabe" hashtag here~ This post will be updated as I make more observational posts!
Note: MUCH of my writing relies on folks having already seen/read through the materials at least once. Sometimes I add Japan-only chapters in my conversations, as the newer chapters are available for free on Comic Walker for a limited time, and I try to catch them on release day. However, while that doesn't happen AS MUCH, it's still a warning!
ANOTHER NOTE: Tumblr and its strange way of flagging stuff has, unfortunately, gotten some of my posts over time. You will have to have your filter settings set to be able to see some of these, like the "Kasuga's Height" post. It's completely safe! But it got auto-flagged and no sign of my appeal ever being answered. Bleh.
ESSAYS
General:
When Nomoto and Kasuga, individually, started falling for each other (Drama)
When Nomoto Stress-Cooks [with Dec 2024 update] (Comic)
Kasuga was S-U-F-F-E-R-I-N-G (Both, but Comic-centric)
Age Estimations (and a personal anecdote) (Comic)
[OPINION] My NomoKasu Intimacy Headcanon (Mature Talk)
Commemorative comment from Satoko Nagamura, who works with Kodomap, a nonprofit for lgbtq couples with a focus on parenting, and also the director of the documentary film, "Futari no Mama" (TL keeps having a fit with this one, but I believe it's best translated as "Just the Two of Us," BUT its also a pun: "Two Moms") The comment is translated in the alt text
"Futari no Mama" follows four same-sex couples in either their pursuit of raising a family or are currently raising a family – what it means to be a "family." As you know, Japan doesn't give same-sex couples all the same rights as hetero couples despite most of the country now adapting various forms of civil unions. Those unions don't give all the rights, unfortunately, and helping same-sex couples with kids is difficult. A "This is their journey/life" kind of film.
Here's an additional comment I found from Nagamura herself as she QRT'd the Tsukutabe post:
Commemorative art and commentary (via the official Tsukutabe account) from Natsuko Taniguchi. You may know her from at least one of these titles listed ("Konya Sukiyaki Dayo")
"She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat" Has Reached a Special Milestone!
[source, from Twitter]
Can you believe it? Tsukutabe has reached over 1 million in total sales! And I believe that's domestically, too, as we've heard in recent discussions about published titles' longevity. That's so impressive for a GL title that isn't afraid to push the envelope with sociopolitical commentary while keeping a gentle vibe ✨
To commemorate the milestone, a special site has been created. Leading up to the release of Volume 6, we will have some special artwork and commentary from 8 guests! I'll also be sharing these here as their own posts, so look forward to that!
Emi took an exercise break and had some today, downing it with Okinawan beer. Meanwhile, Manami shared some bts photoshoot stuff for her book. Her photoshoot was all in Okinawa btw
The official Tsukutabe account on Twitter released this post, showing off what folks will get with Vol 6!
Everyone, regardless of where they're getting their copies (or how - digitally or physically) will be getting these bonus chapters:
If you recall my fan-translations, the first two should be familiar, as these were comics Sensei offered sporadically last year on her IG! ...Which means I'll probably delete my offerings once the English translation comes out. But hey! Look forward to more polished translations when the English release happens! The gaming teaser is a new image, though....ooh...The third one, though, is new. It is titled "Various Women." The teaser is...intriguing lol
As usual, there are other, physical bonuses being offered as well, depending on where you buy the books:
Various stores will offer reprints of Vol 1-era bonus items, "Animate" will offer a print of the NomoKasu Pride 2022 illustration, Toranoana is getting what seems to be a new illustration, Melonbooks will get a print of the Vol 4 insert illustration and Comic Zin will get a clean print of the Vol 6 cover.
Have you read She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat by Yuzaki Sakaomi?
Yes, fully
Partially
No, but I've heard of it
I've never heard of it
Remaining time: 3 days 2 hours
Also known as Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna.
MyAnimeList synopsis under the cut.
Yuki Nomoto, although a complete amateur, enjoys cooking more than anything. The young office worker has big ambitions for the dishes she wants to create, but there is a recurring problem: she has no one to share her cooking with. Much like an artistic masterpiece that never sees the light of day, Nomoto feels her efforts are wasted and her options limited if she only cooks for herself.
By a stroke of luck, Nomoto bumps into Totoko Kasuga, her neighbor two doors down, who is carrying a feast of fast food to consume all by herself. Kasuga may be intimidating at first glance, but her love for food in large quantities is exactly what Nomoto needs to push her culinary skills to the next level. With each meal Nomoto prepares for Kasuga, the two women slowly begin to open up their lives and hearts to one another.
BY THE WAY! VOLUME 6 IS COMING OUT JUNE 15 IN JAPAN! I preordered my own copy already! But I already read the chapters that will be featured in them, just supporting Sensei so the work can continue, heh~
SPEAKING OF WHICH! The manga IS continuing sometime this summer as well! Not kidding! I got my proofs linked for both here!
Emi shared some photos from the time she was researching for her role in Bullet Train Explosion! If you recall, she was the manager that shows up toward the middle of the movie with the idea of bringing another train over to help rescue passengers, so she had to learn more of the inner workings of JR East, like the control center
There's a psychological horror movie coming out in Japan next month, "Never After Dark" (coming to the US this September). A friend of Emi's worked on it from the video side of things and invited her to an advanced screening event. She had some pics to share with us!
Emi isn't really a horror fan, or even considers watching such things on her own. She's one of those folks that, as she puts it, "Will be trembling a week after watching." But she did find this movie intriguing, with its views on the afterlife and trauma. It made her think, so the scary moments didn't get her as strongly as usual.
After the movie, she checked out the merch being offered and couldn't help modeling a cap and tee for the heck of it. (She looks so cool though~ ✨)
