i did have a premonition that iwtv as a whole had a mild twinge of idiotic writing and it was when they retconned the whole book handling with gloves thing. so they write a scene in season 1 with daniel wearing gloves to handle claudia’s diaries. people online poke fun at it, saying that you should really not handle old books with gloves, it is worse for their preservation. they jump up immediately and write a scene in season 2 where someone (daniel i think) snootily corrects someone else about how you’re not supposed to wear gloves while handling old books. i think to myself: why were 10 seconds even wasted on this stupid correction? who really gaf? please simply write lines that further the story and don’t just respond to internet comments

i was watching that tvl finale while falling asleep, i actually quite liked the hallucinatory element but that may have been because i was falling asleep. when i woke up the next day and realized it was the finale i was a little shocked because it seemed like the bottle episode before the finale in which characters gain mental clarity prior to the climactic conflicts. it did not speak to me of a season of television in which many things happened and many arcs were drawing to a close. i did like armand’s scenes but i just don’t think he would say “armends”, that was very odd. not even vampires talk like that

ok tvl again: i don’t think this writing speaks to any understanding of being black. why would claudia’s spirit even call louis nappy-headed in the middle of all that…?? why would she demean his black features in that moment, like why would she think his blackness has anything to do with his sins…?? also egregious use of the word slave, lowkey you cannot be doing all that and then wrapping up the scene with no further exploration. very unnuanced. “YOU’RE A SLAVE LOUIS!! GOODBYE!!”
