So far it's been a pretty cool weekend for the Funeral Singers! Heaps of inspiration and a good sense of direction is making it a lot easier to get back on track. Right now, we've got just about enough material to write 7/8 songs! Our dear friend Ralph Lindsen (cinematographer and alternative-music-nerd) even dropped by the rehearsalspace to jam and give us some helpful critique. The dude has some pretty creative ideas and I absolutely always trust his opinions. You know what, fuzzboxes and self-oscillating feedback-delays ARE a good idea for vocals! Unless you want to be understood... Plan for today: record some quick tracks and write some lyrics. Have a nice sunday! -Hessel
2013.01.19 - This is Ralph. He likes noisy pedals, just like we do!
2013.01.19 - Mister Habin Verviers.

So I guess we started 2013 on a bit of a bad note. So as we've just entered the new year; what will you, our dear reader, be able to expect from us? First off, we've only had one rehearsal so far playing as a duo. It took some time to get a feeling of what we wanted to do musically, but the direction has been set. Kinda. As far as songs go, we're going to be starting from scratch. So that means that the coming weeks are going to be dedicated to writing new stuff. Are we going to try and re-use some of our old songs? Maybe, we're not sure? Depends on whether or not it'll feel right. Will we be keeping our material from the old 3-piece Funeral Singers online? Until we've got something substantial to replace it with, sure. We'll keep it online for now. Gotta shed the old skin someday though! -Hessel
2013.01.12 - Funeral Singers continue.

We have an unfortunate yet important announcement to make. Due to personal reasons and issues within the band, Maarten will be leaving the Funeral Singers. He will be focusing on his solo-career instead. Having said that, Habin and I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors wherever they may take him. However unfortunate this may be, this doesn't mean the end of the Funeral Singers. Instead we're seeing this as an opportunity to reinvent ourselves, thus we have decided to continue as a rock-duo. It will take some adjusting and in many ways we'll be starting from scratch, but we are determined to keep going and we're convinced a new and stronger Funeral Singers will rise from the graves! See you all soon, -Hessel

Yesterday we had our first real rehearsal since idunnowhen! Previous rehearsal-slots were always used up by recording tracks for our EP, so it took us a little while to get back into our groove. Previously we reported that we were in dire need of a rehearsal space: we're still looking around, just to get a space that's entirely ours. But in the meantime we found an excellent temporary substitute! It has all the practical space we need and some gear's also been provided, which saves us the hassle of packing in gear (PA, bass-amp) everytime. Oh and we're also really excited to start writing some new tunes again! -Hessel

Funeral Singers are still looking for a rehearsal-space! Finding one in Maastricht is a b*tch, the only support here is from the Muziekgieterij, but they can only provide so much. It seems like all the empty spaces in Maastricht are only for 'artists', not suitable for rockbands.
Eitherway, if you're from the Maastricht-area or know people from around Maastricht and have advice to give: please contact us at [email protected]! -Hessel

Amp-day! We probably should've done this a long time ago, but we did a proper amp-mic soundcheck today. This is definitely going help define our guitar-sounds from here on in!
Not too shabby either: there's a new pedal on Hessel's pedalboard: a BOSS OC-3 Super Octaver. Helps fill the low-end in a band where there's no traditional bassplayer. -Hessel

Today was the last day in our rehearsal-space, in which we've had such a nice time and so many great musical moments. Eventhough the time-restrictions weren't exactly ideal, we're still going to miss that place.
*sob*
Why did we move out of our rehearsal-space, you ask? Well, our drummer is moving into a new and much nicer appartment! So we spent the rest of our rehearsal-day helping Habin move his stuff around, as well as getting our equipment out.
Good news: we managed to atleast finish recording drumtracks for our EP. Maarten and myself (Hessel) will be able to finish the rest (guitars, vocals) at home, but having those drumtracks recorded really helps preventing any unwanted delays. There's a general feeling of relief that we can atleast keep moving forward! -Hessel

Soundcloud musicplayer now online! People with iPad's and other mobile devices, I'd love to hear if the HTML5 musicplayer is working! http://funeralsingersrock.tumblr.com/music

It's a work in progress page, but we're also adding information on our website about our gear! Read more about our amps, guitars, pedals and musical influences at http://funeralsingersrock.tumblr.com/gear. More information (on drums too) soon!
