Protoscorch inspired me to fix up the spoof pattern I made. I'm pretty much reworking it from scratch and I think it's coming along nicely but it's a lot of work!
Do you want your own little Scorch spoof so badly? Enjoy the unofficial and incomplete pattern I made, for printing on A4 paper!
I don't sew a ton and I DEFINITELY don't make patterns, I just wanted a Scorch spoof so bad, so expect this pattern to have mistakes. Also good luck and follow your heart with the wings!
Eventually I will refine this pattern, write instructions and turn it into a PDF, but for now I'm gonna let it run free for a bit.
Long rant below "Keep reading", cw for colorism and racism
For those unaware, @hellaplastic on Twitter released a prototype image for LaRose's doll indicating she had been originally designed as black and whitewashed. Evidently Kicks Babe, released the same year, faced the same treatment.
I have long been aware of MGA's racist practices bleeding into Bratz and Rainbow High (prioritizing lighter-skinned or white characters above darker-skinned dolls), but this shit continues to legitimately disgust me. It certainly doesn't help that LaRose's style of pastel hyperfemininity is one which black and brown women are frequently excluded from.
According to the original poster, both of these changes came about when retailers asked for less POC dolls, although which retailers have yet to be directly mentioned. As a result, I'm seeing defenders of MGA attempt to shift blame onto these retailers for not wanting black dolls on their shelves, or consumers for not buying them. However, these arguments completely oversimplify this much worse issue.
MGA, retailers, AND racist/colorist consumers are all complicit in the systemic racism and colorism present in the doll industry. MGA is perfectly willing to take credit for sticking to their guns with putting Sasha from Bratz on shelves in spite of retailers' protests, and yet whenever the opportunity arises for them to cater to racists' whims they fold faster than a house of cards.
Since the year LaRose and Kicks Babe came out, we've been seeing fewer black dolls released by OMG and even fewer with textured hairstyles. In 2022 there were 10 dolls with textured hairstyles and 11 dark-skinned dolls, in 2023 that was cut down to 4 and 2.
We shouldn't allow this kind of shit to continue. We shouldn't allow the doll collectors and consumers to perpetuate racist and colorist ideas, we shouldn't allow retailers to make these kinds of demands without serious repercussions, and we shouldn't allow MGA (and frankly any other companies pulling this shit for that matter) to have their sales and reputation go completely unaffected by such blatant racism.
I'm going to continue supporting and promoting POC-owned doll brands like Fresh and Naturalistas over these racist and cowardly mega-corporations supporting genocide, and I encourage my followers to do the same.
And of course, once again, I implore all of you to support the GoFundMe's of Ahmed and Sahar and their families. Whatever money you planned on spending on these dolls that would have supported a company willing to pull shit like this could instead be used to support the POC suffering from the actions of colonizers.
Hey everyone,
I'm reaching out to share our story amidst the chaos and resilience in Gaza. Our family has been hit hard by the brutal imp
🛑🛑Hello, every brother and every sister, I hope that all of you who are watching the video will agree with me that you will stand with me. I
I was recently given over 130 G1 Monster High dolls that belonged to a late relative, and after spending over 20 hours putting them back together and cataloging which ones I had, I decided to indulge my middle school self by making a Monster High oc.
This is X-Terra Estrial, Daughter of The Martians! She's a transfer student from like a super rigorous Martian exchange program, and has to use crutches due to the atmosphere on Earth.
She likes cleaning, has a six-legged three eyed pet cow, and is good friends with Abbey, Scarah, and the other ghouls that tend to be more "abrasive" or "blunt" in their speech.
If all goes well I'll be getting a custom of her eventually!
recently, I’ve noticed people selling normal Furbys for over $100 contributing to the trend that Furbies are very rare in any condition and are worth hundreds of dollars I’m sorry Joanne but your old crusty, dusty smelly Furby sitting in your basement is not hidden gem at most. It’s probably $30. this is a PSA to all the middle-aged women selling their Furbies for hundreds of dollars on Facebook marketplace
Here are some prices that are good but just remember if your Furby is in rough condition, it’s probably gonna be lower things like a missing tag or missing, eyelash or not working can contribute to them being lower
update I made some propaganda posters feel free to upload these wherever you want
i did forget to post abt it for over a month i think but i got some stickers made !! (and i think they all look rly cool ^-^) you can find them where you can find all my other stuff in my pinned post :]
Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of decoden and polymer clay questions about what to use to as a gloss/glaze. Almost every time the first response is “Clear nail polish, duh!”.
This needs to stop if people want to be creating quality items. Sometimes I’m afraid to buy handmade things for fear that they have been sealed with clear nail polish and they will deteriorate over time. I want to buy things that will last!
