so i wanna talk about joe’s and cherry’s memories

now with cherry’s, he’s thinking about the three of them. this is really important to show, because it once again backs up the fact that no matter how he admired adam he was never planning on leaving joe. but it’s also important to think that in this memory, his admiration for adam had already died out due to adam’s violent skating ways and changed personality. so in this scene it’s the beginning of him and joe against adam. he held hope for adam to change still, and that’s the whole reason why, when he went to that spot, he thought about him, joe and adam, instead of just him and joe.

however with joe’s memories, adam isn’t there because joe had realised that the old adam didn’t exist anymore. it was just him and cherry now and that was enough to make him more than happy.

i think it was important they showed us both of their memories to give one final contrast because i truly believe that now cherry has closure, his memory of the ocean view will be of him and joe instead of him, joe and adam. he can finally think and feel freely about him and joe without the feeling of adam holding him back.

so many of you know me for analysing matchablossom scenes so today i’m here to show you one of my favourites which i have mentioned but i haven’t really touched up on since sooo here we go

okay, so we all know joe was running to go tell cherry to stay safe and to say good luck. during this entire bickering session they’re both slowly leaning closer to each other (you can see this here). now when i first watched this i joked and was like “they look like they’re about to kiss” because they were gradually getting closer to each other ect ect but when i narrowed it down to the details, i’ve found that my joke was a little too accurate..

joes the only one who moves in this little clip so we’ll begin with the tilt. judging by his posture after the tilt forward, you can see that his body hasn’t really moved. sure, there’s a bit of a lean in his shoulders but really there’s only one part of his body which has actually shifted forwards and that is his head.

he also then, closes his mouth. they’re in the middle of an argument and we all know both of them are too prideful to back down. cherry is the one speaking before this scene so in routine it would be joes turn to speak next. but he closes his mouth? so he obviously wasn’t leaning in to say his next line? so why was he leaning in?

and that then brings me to my next point. this ones gonna take some convincing because it’s truly the TINIEST little detail but hopefully i can prove myself…

joe’s eyeline 100% moved down to the bottom of cherry’s face. it took me a little while to definitely determine whether his eyeline moved down or if it was just the way his posture was held.

but when i aligned his head, in both frames his eyes are at a completely different angle. not to mention the way his eyebrows are angled differently to show he’s looking down and looking softer.

now finally, you might be thinking about the context of the scene and the question of why would joe kiss cherry at this moment?

let me remind you of the beginning of the scene where joe begins to stutter and gets speechless because he doesn’t know how to express his feelings to cherry in a non-argumentative way. annnnddd let me remind you that straight after this look, adam interrupts them which would make perfect sense considering 1, he’s a dick and 2, he doesn’t want them causing a scene and taking the attention away from him.

just to wrap this up.. it’s a nice piece of canon information to have because why on earth would the producers make joe’s eyes look at cherry’s lips for literally any . other . reason . do what you like with this analysis and i know you’re either going to love this or think i’m actually crazy for spending my time on this :) but ENJOY!
