DNA may be the future of fashion !
We all know that the fashion industry can be very problematic when it comes to the environment. That’s why more brands are now trying to be more eco-responsible. It might be nothing but a marketing strategy, but at least, they are doing something about the environment.
Yesterday I was discussing with a friend of mine about sustainable. She told me about Modern Meadow, an American brand which uses biomaterial, more particularly synthetic DNA, to create leather. The brand even launched a whole clothing line, ZOA, only made with synthetic DNA. To be honest with you guys I did not fully understand the mechanisms of synthetic DNA. It’s quite difficult to grasp but it is definitely innovative. Synthetic DNA is used in various sectors such as medecine and the alimentary industry. For example, you can create beefsteak from synthetic DNA in a laboratory, or create flavours. This innovation implies that we will not need to kill animals anymore to feed or clothes ourselves. The implications are just huge guys !
I did my own research on the subject and saw that besides Modern Meadow, other fashion brands like Bolt Threads also use synthetic DNA to reproduce silk. . Maybe we'll also have fur made with synthetic DNA !

Although I’ve highly despised Stella McCartney for her latest wax clothing line which is nothing but cultural appropriation, I have to admit that her stand against the fur industry and animal cruelty is laudable.
Why are we using and promoting Fur-Free-Fur? Because being modern means evolving and discovering new ways of using alternative materials. Because we want to promote a cruelty-free and ethical philosophy. Because it means moving away from the old and creating the new.

VERSACE IS FUR FREE !
Donatella Versace recently announced that the brand will stop using real fur.
This is a tremendous step in fashion. I really hope other great brands of couture will follow. Animal cruelty needs to stop.
