Hi!! I read for FAQ and I REALLY hope this isn’t a dumb question(if it is I apologize!!)

I made my fursuit head too big and it falls on my shoulders. I wasn’t sure when I made my fursuit head if it’s suppose to actaully go onyour face or so because I have glasses

But do you have any recommendations of how I could keep it on my head or what I should do even if I have to alter it? I’ve tried head straps but it didn’t really work since they were flimsy.

I think the easiest and fastest way to make it fit better is to add some foam padding on the inside of the head.

I can't find FAQ but hopefully this isn't asked a ton from you :,) is there a certain way to fur antennas? i've looked everywhere. tiktok, youtube, looked up images to see how they furred it with no luck. do i fur it like a tail? or make a duct tape pattern and try that? mind you i'm asking cause i'm doing all the research i can before starting this fursuit head. (im a beginner) my species is an alien cat btw!

I would fur antennas similar to tails. Maybe don't use fur, but something like fleece or minky as fabric. Depending on the size of your antennas, you can probably just sew a fabric tube, turn it inside out and put it over your antennas. So dealing with a pattern might not even be necessary

Good idea! The mobile app sucks hard, but I tried my best to do it. I don't have much knowledge about this kind of stuff but I hope it works now, it did worked at least on my tablet when I tried it out :D

This may be in the FAQ but im on mobile and can’t access it, sorry if it is! how do you color the buckram for the eyes? would fabric paint markers work?

Yes, that would work or acrylic paint in general. Just make sure to thin it out and work with layers to not clog the little holes. Otherwise you won't be able to see later. If it's just a few clogged holes you can poke them free afterwards

hi! i’m about to start on my first head base. i did my research and ordered a good mannequin head to put it on while i work but it won’t ship for another two weeks. i already have my foam and i’m really excited to get started on it now. can i get away with starting now? how much progress would i be able to make? is it best to just wait?

If you already ordered the head, I would wait. You can build a head without it, but it will make it a lot easier especially if it is your first head.

I don't sell Fursuit patterns at all, because I feel my patterns are not good enough to be sold. AND because the only pattern I use over and over is for my handpaws. All the other patterns are made from scratch again for every customer. BUT if you are looking for nice patterns to make your own Fursuit, just have a look at etsy for example to find something you like. I just urge you to contact the seller (or look up if they have a seperate webshop) to buy from them outside of etsy before buying there.

Hello! I was wondering my best friend has an expanding foam head base with a balaclava inside but we can figure out how to get the elastic to stick to the head really well. Can anyone tell me what to do??

normally you don't need to use elastics on most expanding foam heads, but if you do, I would recommend putting it on the baclava instead of the foam base. But also I would recommend using stronger glue and roughing up the foam base a little on the glue spots, to give it more grip

I’m looking to make a bovine fursuit, purple fur, with big tits and an udder. I wanna have an Atari T-shirt, and cloved hooves. Thinking of also having bull horns, as I am a bigender transfem (tho I don’t use he/him.)

Suggestions with making a lions mane? I’ve made a lions mane before using fake hair (often used for braiding) but I’m looking for suggestions when it comes to faux fur as I like the way it turns out better and it’s just more my style as false hair is usually used for realistic fursuits. If anyone has links or videos with tutorials or a way to do so please let me know. Just because I’ve been making fursuits for nearly a decade doesn’t mean I can do everything (really)

Hey! I sold custom figures and other fursuit related things on and off from about age 14 or so. I live in America, and the age was supposed to be 18, but I had my mom make a shop and sell my work there, so she could give me the money in either cash or a gift card. I know this doesn't work for everyone, depending on family situation; if you have a trusted parent or guardian who might be willing to support your work, let them know what you want to try and start out small. Again, this might have only been what worked for me, but it is an idea.

Hi! So I want to make fursuit parts as a hobby (like heads, paws, feets, etc.). The down side is that not a lot of people would trust a 16 year old with making good quality stuff and alot of sites have an age limit of 18+ to even make an account. I was wondering how I could sell some parts or even start bids because I’m not too keen on gettin people to pay for experimental stuff if that makes sense? I just want them to get the item, see how they like it, and give me feedback to make my products better. I would like to in future earn money off of this but not right out the front gate!

I'm afraid I can't help you here. Every country has different laws when it comes to minors opening up businesses.

But you are 16 so almost an adult, I would take these two years to get better at crafting and building stuff and then when you are 18 you can start selling the things

How do I make a fursuit head that is machine-washable? Does hot glue still work, or do I need a different type of glue for this?

It's simple, you don't I know there are a few makers (I think one or two) out there who can do it, but mostly it is just not possible. You can try it, but then you need to use a foam base head, with removeable eyes (or eye paint that won't bleed or vanish in the washing machine), fur that can withstand the machine washing and no airbrush or so. As for glue in this case fabric glue would probably be your best bet.

what is the consensus on insulation foam for head bases? not the kind that ends up squishy but the kind that dries hard.

Please don't use this. The fumes are toxic, probably even after it got hard. It breaks easily, it gets more brittle over time and we have no idea how it reacts with sweat and humidity over time. All in all please stay away from it. If you want a foam head, but not the upholastery foam, you can either buy a flex foam head base from a maker, or make your own (although this is an expensive and time consuming thing to do)

I am immensely late but I'd also like to add to furring resin/3D print differences to foam: You need to prop the mouth open when patterning. Otherwise you'll tear your fur when opening the moving jaw post-furring and you get the Joker effect on your mouth sides. I see this mistake with beginners all the time, most are used to furring foam where the jaw is static and you don't need to take the jaw into consideration while patterning.

That's true, and even experienced makers sometimes add too little flap for a jaw to move.

Heya I was planning on getting a 3d print or resin base with a moving jaw to start with, and I was wondering if it had to be furred any differently than foam?

there is only one major difference, Resin/ 3D printed bases are obviously not flexible. That means that pattern mistakes are less forgivable because you can't squeeze the base into submission. For me there is no other difference

Hi, i want to create my own fursuit head. I am curious though, i want to try and make some changes to the basics i see in fursuit head making tutorials, for instance all that foam being used, would it be possible to make a metal/wire framework and have the foam cover the frame so less foam is used and would it be a smart idea to have a pocket or two in the head to hold gel ice packs to keep the wearer from overheating? Though if these ideas sound bad and possibly wont work then i’ll keep to the basics.

Please don’t use metal wire or anything like that in your Fursuit. It might break and is a risk to injuries, or it will corrode due to the moisture over time. If you want to work with some kind of framework use some sturdy plastic mesh. This method was pretty popular before expanding Foam bases and resin bases became a big thing. But it won’t save you much material.

Of course you could add some ice gel packs, but you have to think about several points:

-They need room, so it will bulk up your head more -The cold directly onto your head might lead to health difficulties -Is this something you can really use? I mean how would you use those icepacks on a Convention? -Moisture might damage the head over time All in all I would say no to icepacks in the head. If you want to stay cool you can add a fan in the muzzle and invest in a cooling vest from EZcooldown. They are awesome and pretty well known in the Fursuit community. Some Convention even have options to reactivate them in the Fursuit lounge.
