WE’VE GONE FAR | LOGAN SARGEANT. ‘we ain’t angry at you, love.’
when you and logan break up over something trivial, but happy endings are always in sight. at least you hope?
warnings + authors note | none but like i’ve everything i’ve written this is not proofread sooo
“I CAN’T JUST STOP MY LIFE FOR YOU.” YOU SHOUTED, STOPPING WITH BUNDLED UP CLOTHES IN YOUR HAND. logan looked at you in disbelief, blocking the door with his body. you watched as he moved quickly towards you, trying to empty out your suitcase as you quickly filled it back up. “logan, no.” you said firmly, grabbing his wrist to stop him from moving. “i’m going. we can always try long distance it will work.” you assured, staring up at him with pleading eyes.
logan frowned, sitting on the edge of your bed as he pulled you between his legs. “i don’t want to lose you.” he confessed. his hands ran up the sides of your arm delicately. “i can take care of you, i’ve got a seat with williams- you won’t have to pay for anything. just be by my side.” he begged, turning your face back towards him when you glanced at his suitcase.
“i can’t.” you said firmly, moving out of his grasp.
logan stood up and scoffed, watching as you finished packing your suitcase and zipped it up. “so you’re picking your career over me?” you almost laughed. as if he wasn’t asking you seconds ago to choose him instead of this amazing opportunity you’ve waited your whole life for. an opportunity that would transform your life. “you said-”
you placed your suitcase down on the wooden floor aggressively, turning around to face him with a deep frown on your face. “i know what i said.” you sighed, dropping your head into your hands. “but you can’t ask me to choose. it isn’t fair, why can’t i have both?” you cried out, sinking back onto your bed. your head was hurting and logan was just about to give you a heart attack.
it wasn’t fair, right? you’ve seen plenty of other girlfriends or wives of other athletes have a career and spend time with their boyfriend, so why couldn’t you? it’s not like you guys had some drastically different relationship. at the end of the day you were both girlfriend and boyfriend, just with highly demanding careers. careers that had you both separated from each other for periods of times.
“it wouldn’t work!” logan exclaimed. pacing across your shared bedroom. “it’s too difficult, we’d have 0 time to see each other. i can’t survive off of 30 minute calls with you.” he said, stopping in front of you, cupping his hand on your cheek. “please.”
you shook your head, grabbing his hand with your own. “you can’t ask me to do this.” you spoke quietly, looking down towards your pink fluffy socks. “would you give up your seat for me?” you questioned. the look logan tried so miserably to hide have your answer away. if he wouldn’t give up his seat, then why should you drop your career? the whole situation was stupid and you hated that the morning of your departure you got into an argument.
“that’s not fair.” he frowned, “you know how hard i’ve worked for this.”
you scoffed, pushing your three suitcases out of the room hastily. you needed to get away from logan. “and i haven’t worked hard for my career?” you exclaimed, your eyes blurring from your tears of frustration. “how long have i spent studying? how many hours have i dedicated? all the part time jobs in the same field, just to get an opportunity like this?” you exclaimed, trying to keep your voice from raising. your hand slipped to your heart, and you could feel it trying to jump out from your chest. logan stood in front of you, mouth permanently twisted into a frown.
“i guess it’s done then. pack up your car.” you were sure you felt your heart shatter. he didn’t even want to try to work things out? you moved your suitcases towards the door and picked up your carry-on. you could feel his eyes on the back of your head as you rushed in and out of the door.
walking back inside, you positioned yourself in front of logan. you were fighting hard to keep the tears from flowing. “you didn’t even want to try?” your voice cracked, as you shoved your house keys into logan’s chest. his gaze remained fixed above you, the only sign of life being his adam’s apple bobbing in his throat. “why couldn’t you be more supportive? we could’ve tried.” your voice not only cracked but it wavered, a tear rolling down your cheeks.
“goodbye, y/n.” you bit your lip. no i love you? no eye contact? no attempt at resolving such a simple situation? a two year relationship down the drain. in that very moment, you hovered in your spot, giving him a chance to take back what he said. but he didn’t. so you turned your back and headed out the door, your heart breaking as the fresh spring ever greeted you outside. and you left, leaving the apartment you shared in the past. logan didn’t even care, he didn’t run outside to change his mind, he didn’t look at you. he ended it like it was nothing. like you were nothing.
you thought you at least deserved the decency to at least have a proper goodbye.
YOU SPENT THE FIRST THREE MONTHS IMMERSED IN YOUR WORK, AVOIDING ALL ANY NEWS RELATED TO FORMULA ONE AND LOGAN’S PERFORMANCE. but the next six months hit you like a brick, and you found yourself stalking his accounts, wondering what he was up to, who he was seeing and how he was doing. you cried often during these six months, how did he move on so fast? he kept the photos up of you which added to your sadness. sometimes you found yourself looking at them before you went to sleep.
you felt pathetic, and your friends had tried their hardest to get you to leave your room for reasons besides work. you missed logan and it was incredibly obvious. nine months in a city, a new apartment, around the same people and some new people too but you felt empty. this wasn’t how you were supposed to spend your years. rotting away in your room and only leaving to get something to eat or to head to a place that provided you temporary solace. you could hardly even enjoy your new job.
you had no clue how your friends managed to get you to dress up and get ready for a night out. but there you were, sitting in the some guy’s reserved lounge that your friends managed to flirt themselves into. you could barely even bring yourself to drink, nursing a cup of ice cold water and munching on free chips. you needed some air, desperately. brushing past people and ignoring the calls from your friends, you regretted even coming out. a nice few episodes of some sitcom and a bottle of bubbly was calling your name.
“sorry!” you exclaimed, bouncing off somebody. you felt warms grab yours before you could even look up. you knew who it was by his cologne. nine months and he still wore the same cologne that you bought him? you thought he would’ve scrapped it. that’s what you would’ve done. maybe the memories weren’t as painful to him as they were for you.
“y/n?” you slipped out of his arms and hurried out of the club doors, ignorant to the fact that he was following quickly behind you. he chased after you, calling your name as you stopped suddenly. he barley managed to stop himself from colliding into your back.
you spun around, your eyes devoid of any emotion. but really, you felt your heart in your throat and you fought to keep the tears within your eyes. “hi, logan.” you said lowly, your hands shakily reaching for your phone. logan knew what you were doing, his hands moving to grab yours. you shoved them quickly behind you.
“i’ll take you home.” he said softly, ignoring your furrowed brows as you shook yo ur head no. “i’m taking you home, you know i don’t like you catching ubers.”
you tried to bite back a laugh but failed miserably. “i think you lost the right to tell me what you do and don’t like the second you let me walk out of that door.” you said snarkily, and for the first time that night you finally glanced up at him. his eyes softened at your tone, and you felt guilt bubble up in your stomach. you looked towards the ground. “okay.” you gave in, you knew logan wouldn’t give up and some part of you hoped that on the way home he’d explain why it was so easy for him to give up.
you found yourself sitting awkwardly in his car, the soft sounds of whatever top hit was playing as you stared out the window. you could feel logan’s occasional glances toward you, but you tried your best to ignore the shivers it sent up your spine. you were all for ignoring him the whole way home until he pulled over, turning the car off and facing towards you. “y/n.” he started, letting out a heavy sigh. “i’ve-”
“why didn’t you try with me?” you asked, cutting him off abruptly. you watched as he sputtered. the soft yellow lights of the street lamps illuminating his slightly red cheeks. “had you always wanted to break up with me and that was the perfect time to do it?”
he shook his head quickly, rubbing a hand over his face. “i never wanted to break up with you.”
“so why did you?” you responded back quickly, not even letting a beat pass between the two of you.
logan sighed, rubbing his sweaty palms on his pants. you always made him nervous. “i didn’t want to lose you.” you almost held back a scoff. “i was scared. you know with long distance, you’d find someone else and realise that i wasn’t enough for you. i thought you would want someone who actually able to be there with you, you deserved better.”
you bit your lip, searching his eyes for any deceit. logan’s eyes gave everything away. that’s how you always read him so easily. “why couldn’t you have been better than?” you asked quietly, fiddling with your jewellery. the question hung in the air. “and you were never going to lose me.”
“i’m sorry i messed up.” he confessed, his eyes trading every feature on your face. “i love you.”
you groaned quietly, leaning your head back against the window. “logan.” you grumbled, closing your eyes. “you don’t mean that.”
he shook his head, hesitantly grabbing your hand that was placed on your lap. “i haven’t stopped, even after we broke up.” he was getting into your head now, and opening your eyes to see his soft gaze that he only ever had towards you was throwing your head for a spin. “it’s not been the same without you. i’ve missed you. my whole family too- my mom still asks about you.”
his mum. you loved her truly. a second mother figure to you, you’d consider her your best friend. and during times where you thought of your relationship with logan you also thought about the little dates you had with his mum, the shopping dates, the mail dates, the lunches and the brunches. you missed her just as much as you missed him. “i missed her too.” you mumbled quietly, your heart pounding out of your chest as logan traces circles lightly in your palm. “i missed you as well.”
“what was that?” logan teased, a hearty smile blossoming across his face. “i didn’t hear you.”
you covered your face in embarrassment, turning your head to the side as logan’s laughter cut through the hot midnight air. “shut up.” you said, smacking his hand gently. “i really did miss you logan, but i didn’t deserve that.”
“i know.” he said, grabbing your hands once again. “and i’m going to do everything to make up for it.”
