Small Rant
I don't know if this will make me lose followers or not, but it is very clear when someone in the pagan and/or witchcraft spheres hasn't deconstructed any of their previous religious trauma. What I mean by this is that when people go around saying things like "Why would the gods ever care about us? We are just puny mortals that aren't worth the dirt under the bottom of their shoes. We're lucky to be breathing the same air as them." or anything along those lines, it reads the same as some Christians being this way with their God as well. Now I am not saying that the pagan gods inherently love you. That is also a Christian type belief that you can do nothing to get on the gods radar and they will automatically love you no matter what. You still need to build up the relationship with the gods, in whatever respectful way that looks like to you, but like...once that relationship is built yes the gods will genuinely care about you and your wellbeing. I have had gods that have intervened during my mental health spirals, that have encouraged me to drink water and take care of myself, and that respect when I need to take a break. These aren't cold and unfeeling entities here that are distant and so much different than us. In many different cultures mythos (Greek, Norse, Egyptian, etc.) the gods have emotions, make mistakes, and have relationships just like we do. These are gods that I would argue are supposed to be related to and more approachable even to the Ancient peoples, so we can understand them, relate to them, and feel seen through them. There is Apollo feeling grief at his lovers passing, Loki and fixing the results of his pranks and jokes, Odin's thirst for knowledge, Hera and her "jealousy", Demeter being angry at her daughter being gone, and many more instances that make these gods understandable to mortals because we do and feel the same things. These gods don't hate us, if anything they're indifferent to us until we build that relationship with them and then they begin to care more just like any human would when starting a friendship or relationship. These gods are reaching out to work with humans in the modern day not because they're bored or have nothing better to do, but I would argue it's because they want to genuinely help mortals with things in their life. If they thought of us as so much lesser than them, why would they reach out to help you with your life, your trauma or your magic? Rant over.

Freyja: do your shadow work

i think it’s very important to be at least be a little playful with your own religion. feeling comfortable and safe enough in your own faith to have fun with it is genuinely so, so important to me. it takes some of the pressure off of always ‘getting it right’. and besides! i like to think that the gods really do appreciate the trust we place in them when we allow ourselves to be truly ourselves, with all our vulnerabilities and flaws, in their presence.
don’t get me wrong; reverent, formal, ceremonial, worship is beautiful!! but so is being able to drop all formalities and just talk to your deities… telling them everything that’s on your mind when you need to, or maybe when you’re just too overwhelmed to worship more traditionally. it’s about being able to pray formal hymns and prayers at their alter (if that’s something that feels right for you), but also feeling comfortable enough to simply reach out and talk to them as if they were an old friend or family member that loves you dearly.
cultivating balance is so important for maintaining a healthy relationship with your religion! so just make sure you don’t forget to actually enjoy your practices. at the end of the day, worship should feel fulfilling, whatever that means for you. ♡
Arcane Characters as Witches PT. 1
Viktor: Spoonie Witch. He'd be doing research about herbs and things that help to alleviate pain and heals. Jayce: Deity worker, he would definitely talk to the "source" of magic and talk to them. Jinx: Chaos Witch, for sure. She would take concepts that she studied and then run with them to make her own unhinged things that work really well. Vi: Norse pagan. Doesn't do super overtly witchy tings but she HAS THE GODS FAVOR for suuuure. Caitlyn: VERY traditional/ceremonial witch. She's one of those "this is the rulebook and I must follow it immediately" types. Vander: Hearth/Home witch. He's about protecting the home, his people, and his business and that is all. Silco: Poison witch. He's genuinely one of those types that has a garden full of poisonous plants and knows how to disguise poison tastes in food. Ekko: Technology witch. Hands down. or a Green witch tbh bc plants. Heimerdinger: Crone Witch. Definitely a person that has done this shit for a long time and would say "I can do this magic wrong but you cannot"

I love how certain people that don't practice witchcraft and are uber religious will be like: "OH MY GOSH, YOUR A WITCH? YOU'RE GOING TO HELL! NO, I MUST PROTECT MYSELF FROM YOU!" and at the same time will divinate with a groundhog every February....

---I begin to sing of Dionysos ivy-crowned (kissokomes) the loud-crying (eribromos), splendid son of Zeus and glorious Semele. The rich-haired Nymphai (Nymphs) received him in their bosoms from the lord his father and fostered and nurtured him carefully in the dells of Nysa, where by the will of his father he grew up in a sweet-smelling cave, being reckoned among the immortals. But when the goddesses had brought him up, a god oft hymned, then began he to wander continually through the woody coombes, thickly wreathed with ivy and laurel. And the Nymphai followed in his train with him for their leader; and the boundless forest was filled with their outcry. And so hail to you, Dionysos god of abundant clusters (polystaphylos)! Grant that we may come again rejoicing to this season, and from that season onwards for many a year---
-Homeric Hymn to Dionysos
Happy Anthesteria, everyone! To celebrate, here are a poem and a digital offering for Dionysus. May he join your celebrations on this special day!
Loud-shouting Dionysus, bearer of the vine, crowned in flowers of every hue
Spinning and leaping in a merry dance under the sky’s endless blue
Over the bountiful earth as it bursts with fresh sprouts and green grass
Joining hands with richly-crowned Demeter, she who makes the seasons come to pass
The nymphs of the wild all run out of their hiding places, they come out from amongst the trees
They come down from their rocky mountains, they jump out of their whirling streams
They gather around you with a joyful smile and in a honey-sweet voice they sing
About the ending of winter, about the return of spring
The gods themselves attend your revelry as Gaia clothes herself in blossoms of new
And Apollo’s lyre yields a lively, doric tune
Ares clashes his spear and his shield together with an earth-shaking noise
And the snakes upon Athena’s cloak hiss in a choir of scaly voice
The muses spin in a circle, their voices join into the song and stir up many merry emotions
Artemis, queen of the beasts, leads them in their circular motion
Pan blows whistling winds trough his wooden pipes, Rhea treats all to the sound of cymbals and drums
Aphrodite laughs merrily as all around her flutter her limb-loosening sons
And the Horae, along with the Graces, lead Persephone back to the light of day
And all of the blessed ones cheer happily as they hug the holy maid
And all of them together then raise their cups with a toast to make
To leaf-decked Dionysus, father of the grape
You shatter the chains that hold us back, you give us wings so that we may be free
You teach us that it’s okay to be who we want to be
You wash our worries away with flowery nectar and morning-time dew
You whisper into our ear: “It’s okay to be you”
Hail Dionysus! My heart beats to the rhythm of your dance
You drive people into a trance and also open their eyes
Never cease to guide me, lord of the wine-dark hair
Bull-horned, fire-born, female and male
May my heart bloom with happiness as I follow your voice
May my life smell of freedom, may I never forget to rejoice
In the things both big and little, in the thrill of being alive
Praise be unto you, prince divine
