D.C. students use photography to protest school security

Here is the high school security project that Tran showed in class last week : 

The small band of guerrilla photographers spread out in schools across the District, snapping photos of metal detectors, police pat-downs, and scuffles between security guards and students.

Reminder

HW for Thursday ( 4/18) :  Work on another draft of your artist statement.  Remember to include your final project if you did not.  Please email the new revised draft to me or bring it to class because we will be working on it in class!

Also, remember to keep all of your prints from class so far and please bring them to class as well.  Do not give them away just yet.

Photographer of the Day: Philip-Lorca dicorcia

Philip-Lorca dicorcia is an American photographer. He attended Yale and received a masters in fine arts. diCorcia is one of my favorite portraiture photographers. I especially love his "Hustlers" series which depicts men who moved to Hollywood to become famous actors, but ended up working the Sunset Strip as male prostitutes. He also includes a short caption for each photograph stating the subject's name, where he's from, and how much diCorcia paid him for the photograph. The emotions diCorcia was able to capture in the photos are stunning and really speaks to it's audience. (Some photo's from Philip-Lorca diCorcia's "Hustlers" collection are currently on display at the MoMa. I highly recommend seeing it)
