Assessment form Group 4, VEER
Triptych 2019
Week 1
During the first week of the project we started working on the process by doing a broad research for our assigned tribe Maasai Tanzania and Death Metal. The whole group was divided in smaller teams which had a subject to dive in. The conducted research was desk and field. Some of us used all possible sources in the AMFI library, others went to OBA and part of us went to explore and observe Bijlmer and the people living in the neighbourhood. Based on all collected information, conclusions were drawn up and we had our first presentation where we presented our most valuable findings. The overall feedback that we received was very positive. The things we had to improve were taken seriously and we acted upon the teacher’s advices right after the feedback session. We needed to gain more understanding behind the Maasai’s and Death metal culture.
What followed was brainstorming with the whole group and sharing our knowledge with each-other before we proceed further with forming a concept team.
In the next days the people responsible for the concept worked on a few different versions until we got the best one. Our concept aimed to reflect current happenings in the world and we tried to create it in a way that it can be translated into fashion garments. Target group was created and the next presentation was prepared for the upcoming week. So far the group work was successful.
Conclusion: The research we conducted is in-dept, from different sources. Conclusions were drawn up based upon various points of views and different team members. The created concept is innovative, original and translated into fashion garments. The brand stands for social and environmental responsibility.
Week 2
During the second week we started with our concept pitch. The feedback we got at the presentation was mostly about our first design sketches which clearly needed some improvement. The concept was really clear to the assesors and we had to work more into translating brand values into our garments. Design team had decided to come up with individual sketches, relating to botch concept and maasai x death metal. Furthermore, we have combined all the ideas into a coherent collection, with two ready to wear pieces and one showstopper- and are reflection of our brand. Decisions have been also made regarding the material choice, pattern making etc. Sustainability was always in our minds when buying or taking 2nd materials. We have finalized our concept ideas and started with making off brand book. During the Q&A’s we got an even clearer idea of what direction we wanted to go with our photoshoot and film. The feedback was also given on designs etc. and we have definitely taken all the feedback into consideration and tried to improve our work. We found some really nice models at the HVA campus and made moodboards based on our concept and on what would make them pop out. We kept in mind the concept and brand identity when looking for those models. The shoot and film day went all smoothly, because we had such a clear idea of what we wanted to create and the environment of the Bijlmer / shooting location indicates a clear story, we believe. The stand and exhibition followed and tasks were divided amongst the people.
