Enishi, despite harboring very little ill will towards Toshinori, had been putting off this meeting for a very long time. He wasn’t easily overtaken by anxiety, of course, being proud of himself for keeping a rational head in stressful situations, but the long period he’d gone without reaching out was a major exception to his typical behavior.
It was guilt, mostly, that had held him back. He shouldn’t have left in the first place, should have fought alongside him no matter what, but one couldn’t change the events that had already occurred, and he’d decided to dwell on them no longer.
..Of course, it hadn’t been easy, but if there was any time to call, it was right then. Right after the accident that had really turned the tables. If it weren’t for the severity of it, Enishi might have even found it funny. The same injury that had sparked their falling out was what had pushed him to try and bring them back together.
The silence had stretched out between them for what felt like hours- Enishi had no clue how he should even begin this, for once. He’d been forced into silence by the situation itself.
It was why he was thankful for Toshinori speaking up. His eyes had been more or less fixed on the hero for the duration of the tension-filled period, so there was no snapping his head up in surprise, the only thing to indicate he’d listened being a light nod of acknowledgement.
“I can’t go on forever without some sort of conclusion. It was only now that I realized my time to act may very well be limited, so I won’t waste any more of it keeping up the pretense that I don’t want to speak to you.”
As he spoke, he moved to pour the tea he’d left sitting on the table, a cup for both of them.
