Here’s another spread! Just like the last one, Right Click – Copy Image URL and paste it to see it large! It’s a big’un.
And now we’ve arrived on Kosk. This is the first cityscape I’ve ever drawn that I’ve been happy with, so really I think this page is a win. I’m really pushing myself a lot to improve my weaker techniques, and—while that should remain unapparent to you the reader—I hope you can enjoy my improvement right along with me.
Alright. Cya next week.
Here's the next TFU page early. As a result of the time-continuum change it experienced getting to you early, it has flipped 90 degrees clockwise.

I’m still playing around with the coloring style. I don’t know. Just having fun with it while also trying to make it cohesive. And fun is definitely a good word to use; never in my wildest dreams would I imagine enjoying digital painting, but look at me go!
Hope you guys are enjoying it, too!

something i am working on for The Future Universe

Are you guys EXCITED? T-Minus TWO HOURS until we land on this Kosk planet and meet the Modified, themselves!
[UM15]
I've been working on some designs for the Kosk race. The first chapter of TFU, UN/MODIFIED, explores the Kosk and their crazy culture, designed around status, stature, twisted beauty, and intimidation.
This piece is some concept art trying to nail down the idea of gaudy, over-the-top modifications which should immediately give the viewer the idea that something is wrong. "Ornate for no reason," as Wasson put it, linking me to this photo. I'm not 100% satisfied with the design yet, but it's coming along.
i just realized how cute TFU is drawn in Allan style…
[UM14]
Oh now he’s gone and done it! Allan has used all the scripts I’ve given him so now I have to… *shudder* edit more of my rough drafts. I’ve never gotten over the use of pen and paper, as all but the first two strips were written on a tiny notepad I carry around with me and then later put into a master word document to be noodled with when Allan finally started whipping me hard enough to get me out of my lethargy. I don’t know what it is about paper that I love so much, but to this day I have trouble reading things on a screen (despite assaulted the world with blocks of text on this very tumblr). The trade off for this is how much more easily I can rad comics on the internet, as they have a nicer flow in their layout and one unperturbed by trying to get info in spite of the spine of their binding. The story itself is marching along, as we’re almost out of our establishing work and into the meat of the chapter that you were so tantalized with on the cover. When Allan and I were first discussing how to start the storyline, the question was brought up of in medias res, and in general, its a good tactic for making sense of general relations within a work while immediately providing action for the reader to delve into. The way it ended up going down was kind of a compromise to this, as it is apparent that an ensemble cast in an on-going serial needs to be established in how they relate to each other, especially out of the general action of tenser moments that would cause them to interact differently than they normally would. This strip in particular articulates a lot about Karl and Anthony, both how their relationship works and how Karl moves through his thought patterns. Kudos to Mr. Wood for stepping down from his gold encrusted throne built from the skulls of his enemies to give this idea a visual flow that I do believe conveys the breadth of it.
Somehow Wasson magically posted this last night and even wrote author's notes about it. The final strip has changed a tidbit (better word bubbles, color/shading just slightly changed), so if you're interested in witnessing Allan's OCD in action, click on through!

Wasson has been writing the scripts in a new, more contiguous manner. Rather than send me a single strip at a time, he’s given me an event or scene to illustrate, until it ends on its point. This allows me to stretch out the action and pace it a little more knowingly. I think it works.
Hooray The Future Universe! I think that this one came together well and it is interesting to see how Allan uses the nature of the scripts I give him to layout the major ideas. As he mentioned, I’m currently writing major beats of the plot contiguously as to give a more natural flow to the events transpiring. One of my major things in terms of writing is my love a big detailed plan for the larger scheme of the narrative and then to improv the individual moments, making them up as I go along to give them the spontaneity of emotional response. The inherent problem with this when writing from script to script is the kind of disjointed nature that comes from not being in the movement of our emotional melange when the events are transpiring, both for the characters and for myself. This was all well in good during the first segment which is meant to be edited video footage, as that would have a more static structure, but I’m hoping this new approach will allow for us to better understand how the thought patterns of the characters grow and change in a more meaningful way. Keep an eye out for just what those crazy documentarians and the crew members that love to hate them are up to as we move forward.
A little insight into how we’re doing things.
starline and david have been really nailing some pin-ups lately. I figured I’d do something similar for Vven from TFU. I am also pretty sure I’m explicitly ripping an ad campaign off, somewhere.
This ad takes place during her modelling career on Cradle, before she was rewarded an honorary doctorate and began her own docu-drama, Dr. Vven and the Future!
The ad is for a product called the iEye—an optic implant designed to automatically record/capture/store every image, scene, vision, sound, etc., of a person’s life. It is what Karl uses in the comic.
Working on the minicomic/monster fic for Allan’s The Future Universe. I am putting too much effort into this but I really want to make this comic for him.
I made a thingy for the Future Universe Wiki.
The intimidating Khrryd'n!
The White-Speckled Povap is a creature from planet Gorou, known for its long, spindly legs which offer extreme dexterity, agility, and speed, as well as sure-footing atop the slopes in which they reside. In addition to sharp eyes and a keen nose, the Povap possess a pair of remarkable ears which can detect insignificant changes in air pressure from hundreds of miles away. These skills allows the Povap an excellent means of defense.
The Povap enjoys its life atop the Slopes of Gorou, a majestic mountain range adjascent to Gorou’s ocean. Few adversaries are present atop these perilous cliffs, providing a sanctuary for the Povap. A Povap’s great challenge is the hunt for food, in addition to braving the harsh climate of Gorou’s slopes.
