To love Elizabeth Warren
As much as I do
So last night I did some texting for Warren to Californians. Most interesting response. Me: (insert prewritten question asking who they support and will vote for?) Them: I’m voting for Pete Buttegieg because I want to beat DT. Me: (Another prewritten response asking what issues are important to them besides beating Trump) Them: Actually all my values align with Warren who I really LOVE and want to vote for bla bla bla but she can’t beat Trump so I’m gonna vote for Pete and won’t change my mind. I had a text convo the other day with a Libertarian voter regarding health care. It seems he thinks it's a personal choice to have insurance. When I pointed out that many people don't have the means or ability to even have that choice, his tone seemed to change a bit. I said something to the effect of, "wouldn't it just be better for everyone to have it and then they could make the choice in whether they wanted to use it?" I went on to say I didn't think personal liberty was being upheld if folks didn't have the chance to be healthy. I just may have planted a seed. This is why I think texting voters is worth it.

"Warren is the only candidate i have EVER volunteered for where I recruited at least one potential volunteer every single shift (often more) the next two weekends are critical in Super Tuesday states, including Virginia,. The time is NOW!"

This woman who lived in my old house, a young mom, she was so sweet. She said she was undecided, then said, she had been for Warren, but had given up hope. And then started telling me about her old job, where she worked on housing issues, and they would show a documentary, and this Harvard professor was the talking head in the documentary, and how she was like "that is the smartest person I have ever heard talk about this." And this woman was like, but then I got scared. But I don't want to be scared. I love her. Yeah, you're right, I am going to vote for her. And she teared up, and it was so sweet.

TEXT OF THE NIGHT FROM TEXTING FOR WARREN: "Unfortunately I already cast my vote for Mayor Pete last week. Now I wish I could vote for Elizabeth." 😭😭😭
Out knocking on doors for Elizabeth Warren. One fun part is seeing all the cool door colors people have. I think I have seen pretty much every color of the rainbow. Also fun: talking to people who are excited about Warren. I highly recommend getting out there and talking to people (and appreciating their doors!).

Things I have learned from being on both sides of the "I want you to support my candidate" equation: 1. People like to be asked for their vote. No one likes being demanded for their vote. 2. People who are considering other candidates than you often have good reasons for doing so, based on their deeply-held beliefs, knowledge, and lived experience that might be different from yours in ways you do not know. Try to listen, like really LISTEN to where they are coming from (their reasons might be very different than you assume). A little humility goes a long way and no one has a monopoly on wisdom. 3. Kindness matters. As does not looking the other way from shitty behavior by those who share your views on the candidates. There may come a point where someone who supports another candidate has their candidate drop out and they will remember who was yelling at them and telling them their candidate was the devil. I will be putting all of these lessons into effect when I knock on doors one more time this weekend for #TeamWarren before the state redacted primary on March 10. And if you are someone who just had a candidate you love drop out, I truly empathize. It sucks to not get to vote for the candidate you love and have to settle for someone who you don't think is the best. If you want to hear my pitch for Elizabeth Warren, let me know. If you just want to be left alone to feel bummed, I totally get that too.

Turns out I was on my own text bank list. I just sent a batch of 100 texts from my computer and my phone buzzed. 😆

Lesson I learned today. I’d rather canvas in sneakers and have wet feet than canvas in rain boots and have hurting feet!

An effective way to canvas in public
Help I’m addicted to virtual phonebanking I made 103 calls today before, during, and after canvassing. 😳 and I gradually reduced my voicemail spiel to 45 seconds so... uh it’s only going by faster!

How creepy would it be if I sent a condolence card to the crying lady who told me that they just put down their beloved dog and she couldn’t talk about politics right now? Because, I mean.... I have her name and address. #canvassing

A beautiful day to canvas in district redacted, and I got lucky with a big beautiful neighborhood! Even knocked the door of a former co-worker (although he didn’t answer). 4 miles, 47 doors! I’m going to need to start bringing better snacks!!

My fanny pack is here and I’m feeling all kinds of superpowers! #FlipThe12th #canvassing
