Wow and here I thought you do is learn the different plays, practice, and have games. But apparently there’s more to it.
Well of course. Us athletes don’t just roll out of bed and know how to play a sport, it takes hard work, dedication, and passion for the game itself.
[ grant ]:
“Oh my god, stop, that’s so gross. I can’t believe you actually ate it, the thought of it makes me want to throw up.”
“I couldn’t believe it either. I think I convinced myself it tasted good so I wouldn’t hack it back up.”
Doesn’t it get complicated playing more than one sport?
Yes and no. The two are quite similar, so the transition wasn’t very hard, it was more about the terminology of American football. But both are important to me, so I work hard to make sure I’m always at my best.
Do you have a preference? Or is your love for both equal.
Eh, I enjoy both. But I think I like rugby a little more, it’s got more contact. In American football there’s a lot of padding and protective gear, which my pretty face appreciates, but I liked the rough-play of rugby.
“Red meat isn’t exactly healthy for you, but hey if you like what you like.”
“Red meat is also a source of protein, which I need to keep up my performance on the field. So, unless you’re going to be the team’s dietitian, I’m going to keep doing what I do, and how I do it.”
[ grant ]:
“I wish you had. Alright, I won’t lie, that is weird. But I guess every country’s got those dishes that everyone else thinks are weird.”
“That’s very true. I was in Germany once, and my dad suggested we eat what the locals would eat. So, he bought this... thing called Schinken-Teewurst, and it’s basically just raw, cured sausage in a tube that’s made spreadable. Honestly, one of the scariest and nastiest things I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.”
Glad to hear it, Grant. It can get a little borin’ sittin’ with nothin’ but your thoughts rattlin’ around keepin’ you company. Do anythin’ worth mentionin’ or is all homework?
Honestly, I don’t really have that problem. My thoughts aren’t boring. Sometimes my thoughts just bring me more trouble. Ha, homework... I only do my homework because Bri helps me. I heard Bras was throwing a party soon, I’ll probably crash it, if that counts as plans?
“Even if its full of nasty preservatives that can severely damage your health? I’ve been in your place kid. Trust me, stick to the celery and stay away from the hot cheetos.”
“Celery’s gross. It’s food for hamsters, I’m a man. I need cheeseburgers or filet mignon.”
[ grant ]:
“Honestly, before this conversation, I would’ve said we didn’t drink pickle juice here, but clearly, I would’ve been really wrong.”
“I would’ve let you be wrong, honestly. It’s just kinda weird... But, y’know, Americans say the same thing about Brits and tour beans and toast. Which, for the record, I don’t eat... I think it’s weird too.”
Does anybody else feel real silly not havin’ any plans even if it’s a weeknight?
Not really, I always have plans.
“So I guess cafeteria food still sucks after all these years? I was pretty sure that things would taste a little bit better by now.”
“Well, it’s no five-star cuisine, but food is food, to me.”
I guess, I just like helping out. Football seems so confusing.
Eh, like anything else, it’s something that takes practice. Growing up, I played a little rugby, and then I got recruited to come to this school as a transfer student, and well, now I’m playing American football.
Seems like no one wants a bad photo this year, but I doubt that it won’t happen. To be honest, I don’t really have a preference I just do whatever I can to help whenver help is needed.
Well that’s good that you’re versatile. I’m kinda the same with football, I just play where coach needs me to, though I’m mostly a wide receiver.
“Because you’re trying to back pedal. I honestly think you’re more intelligent than you act, so I’m not falling for the bit. You know what? It doesn’t matter. I refuse to argue with a student, let your coach deal with you and your shitty manners.”
“Well, then, on that note, have a lovely day, Ms. King.”
[ grant ]:
“That’s honestly one of the more disgusting things I’ve heard about sports superstitions and the likes. I can’t believe that actually works, and I can’t believe that people really buy into it. Ugh.”
“I never even heard to it before coming to America. We don’t drink pickle juice in London, honestly one of the weirdest things I’ve ever heard of.”
