Rage seeped through Lucifer’s fingers, leaching into the wooden banister that splintered pitifully in his iron grip. The echoing sounds of his own boorish footsteps thudding up the stairs only served to boil his blood further. His ears burned as though they might catch fire.
Whore. Jezebel. Harlot.
My love. My darling. Why are you doing this to me?
He wheeled around a corner at the top of the stairs and snagged his coat on the jutting edge of an ornate sconce. He vowed to have it removed.
Though Lucifer prided himself as his brothers’ keeper, and tended to his duties diligently, even he had to admit it was impossible to be seven places at once. As soon as he had noticed Satan's absence, he had wanted to begin the hunt. But his brothers were only one of his many, many responsibilities, and when faced with the demands of the student council, he had no choice but to oblige.
“I apologize, Satan will not be joining us today,” he said through gritted teeth, carefully vague so as not to lie, “We will be sure to discuss his priorities, later.”
Lucifer steeled himself for an explosive confrontation. But as he reached wrath’s door, he stopped short in surprise. No magic. Not a single warding spell or trap to be found. He paused for a moment, straining his senses against the silence.
“It's open,” Satan called from inside. It was.
Lucifer planted himself in the threshold, ready to lock horns with his brother. Across the room, Satan remained comfortably in his bed. He sat up against the headboard, topless, with a novel he deigned not to look up from.
“Where-?”
“Not here,” Satan interjected, snapping his book shut.
He radiated smug satisfaction.
Dimly, in the back of his mind, Lucifer heard your voice:
“I've been wondering what the opposite of pride would be?”

You appeared from thin air, tumbling head over feet onto the sitting room floor. You never did quite learn to stick the landing. You clambered to your feet, disheveled but not much worse for wear.
Solomon poked his head out from the kitchen, “Oh! Hello! I didn't know you'd be dropping by, but you're just in time! I made lunch.”
