Any sage advice?
âAbsolutely. Make that pun again and youâre dead. Howâs that for some sage advice?â
adelfikos:
âOh, good Olympus above, have I accidentally dug my own personal grave?â Orlando complained as loudly and dramatic as possible, letting few of his inherited dramatic flair ooze a little bit. The thought of Sage and Maxine joining forces against him made him shudder a bit; what a force to be reckoned, those two. âWell, in my defense, I could only feel them. Most especially if oneâs mentally distressed to an extreme. But the technicalities and the science-y of those two in particular is all Greek to me. Though I wouldnât deprive you either of a learning experience regarding those two.â
"You might have. But at least Iâll try to promise you something quick and painless,â she smirked at her own joke. She thought the dramatics were a bit much but still, it was pretty funny. âOh you canât influence them at all? I suppose that would make learning about it way too easy, wouldnât it?â Sage sipped her drink, wishing to herself that she couldnât influence people with her powers but there was nothing she could do to change it. ââSo are bad puns apparently. The only thing youâd be depriving me of is frustration and studying stress! But I guess you donât want to suffer alone.â
nightcrawlingmachine:
He shot a finger gun towards his new friend. âYou want me to call them back so you can tell them that to their faces? They donât get a lot of compliments. Youâll make their year.â
Kennedy sipped his drink and raised an eyebrow. Who the fuck was she and where had she been his whole life? âThe stupid people. You donât seem like them. Though, Baby, you donât have to scare me to get my pants off. Itâs a whole lot easier than that. How about I give you a signed copy for free if I get something in return?â
Sage let out a quick laugh, rolling her eyes. "Oh no, donât inconvenience them, please. Plus I donât think half the people in here would be as charmed by your skeleton crew again!â
Sage spun her straw around in her soda for a moment before raising an eyebrow. âIâm not a stupid person so youâre right there, you know.â She snorted quietly. âAre you seriously hitting on me right now? Wow people donât miss a chance do they! Is this Recall business making everyone go crazy or something.â
ecaterrina:
âYouâd think Iâd spend another minute here if I could? And I canât just leave all my fellow Hunters behind. Theyâre my family, and you donât leave them behind. I donât know if you share that sentiment, but I value that sort of thing.â She huffed back. âItâs not like theyâre training us to fight for them! Theyâre training us so monsters donât eat us alive! I may not like being at camp against my will, but since itâs been here, less kids have died because now they know how to defend themselves.â Ecaterina stared at her, wanting to just flail her arms around and groan in frustration. âJesus, stop feeling so sorry for yourself because of who your godly parent is. Demigods do stupid shit no matter who their godly parent is. The guy who started the whole Kronos-ordeal was a Hermes kid, but you donât see any of the Hermes kids being taken out. And if youâre afraid of the mortals attacking you first, youâre just admitting that the mortals will do something rash when they get to the bottom of this whole thing.â She cocked her head to the side, refraining from actually snapping her fingers and going âoh snapâ. She threw her hands up and actually groaned this time. âI will. Du-te dracu. Goodbye.â She smiled fakely before rolling her eyes, turning around and stomping away.
"You really have no respect for the place thatâs keeping you safe. Iâm staying here because I want to keep my family safe. Clearly the Huntresses donât think the same either or else they wouldnât have left you here now would they?â Her eyes took on a dull glow and she shook her head to clear her thoughts for a second. âRight. Weâre killing monsters to survive but arenât we fighting for them still if weâre killing monsters that are a threat to them and keeping their bloodlines going? I have nothing against camp but itâs fucked up nonetheless.â Sage dug her nails into the palm of her hand. âI donât feel sorry for myself! I own all the shit that Iâve done and last time I checked, thatâs not feeling sorry for yourself. But Hermes kids arenât inherently dangerous! Thieves, sure. But they canât drive someone crazy with fear if they look at them the wrong way on accident. Maybe you should check your ignorance at the door while Iâm telling you the facts. Iâm not admitting anything about the mortals. The people here could decide to kill me or exile me just as well if I prove to be a threat so donât act like demigods are any more civilized than regular people. It makes you sound really stupid.â Sage flipped the girl the middle finger as she watched the girl roll her eyes at her.
nightcrawlingmachine:
Kennedy spotted the small grin the girl afforded him right away. There was something up with this girl. He couldnât place his finger on what it was but he liked it a lot. Probably best to pester her until he figured it out.Â
âHave you seen them? Who wouldnât like them more?â The skeletons, besides being some of his oldest friends, were the gimmick of his whole act. Was it sad that skeletons were the some of the people he knew the longest? Best not to focus on that right now. That thought was much better reserved for a wallowing period if Colleen decided she wasnât going to fall for his old tricks again. âI can get you an unsigned one for cheaper. Thereâs a special discount for pretty girls.â
Sage thought this guy was amusing already. It didnât take much to amuse her, honestly, but she was always amused by people who were more like her than anything else.
âOh very true. Those were some good looking skeletons you had,â she rolled her eyes as the smirk on her face got even bigger. No use in hiding how much she was amused by now. âAn unsigned one? Now where would be the fun in that, then I wouldnât be able to sell it on Ebay and make money if you actually got famous.â She set her drink down on the counter in front of her. âBut a special pretty girl discount? Wow, how original! Does that usually work on people? What about a discount for someone who can scare the pants off you if she doesnât get a big enough discount?â
adelfikos:
âKnowing Maxine, sheâd probably get along with anyone that would make fun of me and figuratively bring me down to my knees.â he grimaced, silently wondering if telling the woman in front of him that specific information was a right move. Not that he actually mind, though. âLikewise, Sage. I wish I could say the same with dopamine and serotonin except I could literally feel them if I try hard enough.âÂ
"Who says anything about it being figurative,â she smirked and let out a laugh. As much as she was working on containing her powers, she still found it funny to watch people squirm to some extent especially when it was harmless as this. âOh you lucky duck. Youâll have to help me out during tests or something then. While weâre here studying why donât you help a girl out if you understand brain chemicals so well!âÂ
nightcrawlingmachine:
By the time their song was finished, Kennedy was tired of his skeleton crew. The cheap gimmick was amusing for the set but he couldnât read the room from stage and for once he wasnât looking to get into any fights. With a snap of his fingers his band returned to the earth in a cloud of dust. He nodded his head, soaking in the applause as he left the small stage and returned to the bar.
Kennedy found himself compelled to walk over to his one very enthusiastic fan. He took a seat a few down from her and ordered himself another whiskey. The adrenaline rush even from just a small set was enough to make him cocky. Kennedy found himself lighting a cigarette and leaning back in his seat, staring at the small girl and hoping she would acknowledge his presence. âYou just might be my number one fan. You looking to buy a signed CD?â
Sage was always someone who was easily amused by something dark and spooky. Maybe it was the company she kept, it wouldnât be that surprising to her. She couldnât help but be reminded of Eden with how theatrical the whole thing was and that made her want to laugh even harder.
The brunette took a sip of her soda as she shrugged her shoulders, doing her best to look bored an un-phased even as a tiny smirk tugged at the corners of her mouth. "Wow thatâs pretty sad if Iâm your number one fan. Does that mean that your skeleton band mates have more groupies than you?â She flashed him a wicked smile. âI wouldnât go that far just yet. A signed CD might be too much.â

âStomping on flowers?â he retorted without missing a beat, grinning from ear to ear. Oh, he had heard about that alright, and had yet to congratule his best friend on being such an angry little squirrel. âI like that people are afraid of me, they should be!â He was petulant now, every bit the spoiled only child he had been for nearly two decades. âAnd also, you didnât want a threesome after you got to know me better so I call bullshit on that. You were just afraid youâd be forever disappointed by Abel after seeing me in all my glory. Which, you know, I get it.â Not to undermine the son of Eros, of course, but hey: Edenâs ego was larger than his affection for most people.
As much as he liked to banter, the more serious turn the conversation was taking wasnât a bother. Any time spent with Sage was good, especially as she was one of the only people who took Eden seriously. Which had to be the reason why he was so quick to sober up whenever he could see her getting truly fed up with his antics. âRight? So youâre welcome. And as for Dimi, if he knew heâd just got even more starry-eyed at you. Youâre a powerhouse, girl, and people just â the wrong people are afraid of that but I donât think heâd freak out. I mean, son of Nemesis, right? Gotta be capable of some nasty things himself.â Sitting upright, Eden laid a hand on top of Sageâs, trying to make eye contact. Seeing her with that look on her face made him furious, but he didnât know whom to turn this anger against. Anyone who had ever hurt her, probably; the fact that she had hurt people too, and might not be done thinking about it. âHey. Your powers? Theyâre not a curse. You can help people with them or punish them if they deserve it. And donât mention some kind of self-serving justice bullshit, Sage, because youâre responsible and smart enough to judge for yourself whatâs right and wrong. I mean, who knows how much more awful Iâd be without you, huh?â he asked, shooting her a smile.
"I missed the part when doing something once made it a past time. Like you enjoy annoying me all the time, thatâs a past time.â She laughed as she tossed a pillow at her friendâs head. âI didnât want a threesome after I got to know you better because thatâs still weird! You acted like an annoying older brother more than anything else. Why would I want anything to do with that?â Sage raised an eyebrow at her friend almost like she was challenging him to question her logic.
It was still pretty amazing and confusing to her, even after years of knowing him, how quickly Eden could come down from his almost constant high when he saw one of his friends was sad. It was probably why she kept him around for so long. âI donât think so, Eden. I know Iâm a powerhouse but is that necessarily a good thing when getting angry can make people around you go almost insane with fear? It doesnât make any sense...â She trailed off because she knew that he was right. Her fingers twitched a little when Eden put his hand on hers but she didnât flinch away from him. âHow do you know theyâre not a curse, Eden? They might as well be with how useful they are!â The tiny girl let out a heavy sigh, âI guess you would be pretty awful without me but that doesnât make me any better than you.â

âWell, some people still do,â she said, smirking. âNo, I donât have a death wish. I just donât like sitting on my ass, doing nothing. I feel like a coward. And I get that not everyone feels like that, but no oneâs giving us a choice.â Ecaterina shook her head fiercely. âI just want some- some damage control. Do you know whatâs happening in the mortal world right now? Because I donât. They donât know weâre demigods, in their eyes itâs kids being forced to fight. Which, technically, isnât that far from the truth, but they either need to be given more information, or they have to forget about the video somehow.â Ecaterina gave the other girl a flat, unimpressed look. âSuffering isnât a contest.â She sighed, annoyed. âPeople like me have been fighting monsters for decades so they canât hurt more demigods. People like me have been in this situation before and people like me can tell you that just waiting until it blows over doesnât help.â She drags a hand over her face. âI donât want to fight. I donât want to attack the mortals and give them a reason to attack us! Iâm not stupid. I just want to do something.âÂ
"Yes, that would explain your medieval ideals. In case you havenât noticed, this isnât the Dark Ages anymore.â Sage tapped her fingers on her arm. âYou have a choice. Why donât you go out there and just surrender yourself to them. Isnât that a choice you can make? Since sticking here in safety is too cowardly for you!â She rolled her eyes as a huff escaped her. âWell thatâs what we are, isnât it? I mean sure weâre protecting people from monsters and things but arenât we just child soldiers? They arenât wrong. No child should have to learn how to use a sword or live in fear that they might get overemotional and hurt someone!â Teeth clenched, Sage nearly growled at the other girl, âThen donât talk about pain you donât understand and it wonât be a contest.â A bitter laugh caught Sage off-guard and it took a moment for her to realize that she had made the offending noise. âI donât give a shit about people like you. What I give a shit about is me and my friends and how, if we do anything stupid, then weâll probably be the first to go. Children of gods that can hurt people or mess with peopleâs heads? Thereâs no use for us out there,â Sage was almost shaking now. âWell thereâs not really anything to do. So figure something out or stop your bitching.âÂ
nightcrawlingmachine:
It wasnât his first time at one of the labyrinthâs bars since he moved to New Rome. Heâd been to what he assumed were all of cityâs bars and they all fucking sucked. None of them felt like home. He shouldnât have to pay a fortune for a fucking beer. Why the fuck was Pabst considered imported? Stumbling upon Metamorphoses was a stroke off good fucking luck. Finally he felt like he was back in his fatherâs world. Whether that be to due to the cavern slash bar he was currently in or the company surrounding him. Kennedy took his soon to be usual seat at the end of the bar and ordered a shot of whiskey and a can of PBR.Â
Normally aware of his surroundings, Kennedy stared at the small stage at the end of the ever changing bar instead. He hadnât played in public since he left England but that didnât mean he had stopped. Not like he was going to do anything else tonight and it had to be some kind of sign from fate that he had wandered in during Open Mic Night.
A few more drinks, a trip back to the main hallway to collect his band from the earth, and one borrowed guitar later, Kennedy was on stage with his old band. Not the one he had left in the U.K. One even older than that. While one skeleton played his ribs and another set himself up comfortably on the piano, Kennedy took his place center with the borrowed guitar. The words to Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole by Martha Wainwright flowed easily from him, even if he may have not understood the song like he thought he did.
Sage was having a rough couple days and that meant visiting the labyrinth to clear her head. Most people would think that it was the last place someone would go to find peace but with the overwhelming fears and general annoyance sheâd found on the surface from everyone but her friends lately, the labyrinth was her safest bet. It wasnât that she felt more at home among monsters and the darkness, but sometimes there was no denying she might be just as dangerous as the thing that killed the girl in the video.
She wasnât feeling like the biggest fan of alcohol lately, so she ordered a soda and took a seat in a corner. Close enough that she could observe but far enough away that she wouldnât be bothered by anyone or maybe even going totally unnoticed. Either was fine by her.Â
Open mic night was proving to be very amusing. The tiny brunette almost spit out her drink when someone took the stage with a band made of skeletons. She couldnât help but laugh to herself just a little as the man sang, too amused by the show being put on to really soak up what the person on stage was even singing. Still, she clapped when they were done. An amused look on her face as she let out a whistle of approval before going back to her drink.
adelfikos:
âNoted. No promises, though.â he grinned at her, his expression slowly morphing into downright horror at the thought of this woman meeting his sister. âPlease donât.â Orlando groaned loudly, resisting the urge to facepalm. âThe last thing I probably need is you and Maxine teaming up to rile me up.â The impeccable timing of his rumbling stomach was just in time when the waiter served him his order, its aroma inevitably attacking his nostrils to provoke his hunger further. âWell, a little wishful thinking wouldnât hurt.â he answered, âSometimes that serves the best motivation out there: itâll be over soon.â
The look of horror on his face was enough to almost make her laugh. "Why not? I feel like your sister and I would have a lot in common to talk about,â a small smirk graced her features like it often did whenever she mentioned her past casually. Direct actions were different and upsetting but there was nothing wrong with enjoying a little power. âWishful thinking indeed. Hopefully this will all be over soon and then school will be over and I wonât have nightmares about dopamine and serotonin.â
ecaterrina:
Ecaterina made some vague hand movements in Sageâs direction. âThen how the hell are you saying these things? Minority? Iâm pretty sure mortals are not the minority here.â A loud snort escaped from her mouth. âMortals havenât evolved! Donât you see? Sometimes lives canât be rebuilt. And yeah, no oneâs died yet because weâre all cooped up here.â She took a deep breath. âHow can you be so- so-â Dammit, this was not the time to forget words. âSo indifferent!â That was it. âSo you really trust mortals to handle this calmly? âCause I donât. Minorities never get away easily. They are enslaved, or sent to internment camps, or beaten by cops before they are accepted. I just donât want that to happen with us. We were safe because they didnât know about us, but now they do, and hiding isnât sending the right message. We should do or say something, because who knows what kind of theories are going around now.â With a frown, she crossed her arms and glared at the girl in front of her. âSomeone like me? I donât like my godly parent either, Apollo can go suck my dick for all I care, and Zeus too. But if it wasnât for Artemis Iâd be dead. Your precious humans tried to kill me because they were afraid of me. So sorry if Iâm not particularly fond of them in big groups.âÂ
Sageâs eyebrow twitched but her face remained otherwise calm. "Because Iâm not going to let everyone elseâs fears affect my life at the moment, so sorry.â She rolled her eyes, âI think they have seeing as we donât live in big brick castles and piss in chamber pots anymore. And you donât want us cooped up here where weâre clearly safer at the moment? You must have a death wish or something.â Holding a hand up to her mouth, Sage stifled a yawn. âIndifferent? Itâs a gift.â She nodded her head, âI do trust them. Not all of them can think weâre dangerous and people will start to realize that if we just give it a while to die down. You know how many people are realizing reporters and other people were demigods or legacies? Theyâll realize soon enough. Youâre just thinking in extremes and wanting to retaliate for things that havenât happened yet.â Sage sneered at the other girl. âOh right. You must have felt so many hardships with your father being the god of music and poetry. Iâm sure your father made you mess with your boyfriend's brother's head to the point he can't even look at you without wanting to run away. My mistake. I donât have time for a pity party.â The tiny brunette pointed a finger at the other girl, âWhen are you going to realize that people like you are the reason why people might die during all of this. Weâre better off hiding here than trying to fight what you think is the majority and getting killed.â

âAw, come on, we all got our questionable pastimes! Besides, does it really matter if Iâm nice to you?â It had been five years now and Eden still struggled with concepts such as that one. Except from the people close to him, who cared about his attitude? It hadnât kept Sage from befriending him, so why would she even bring it up? The way most people went about dating and telling him how he got it all wrong puzzled him even further. Society really did a number on a personâs free thinking, in his opinion. âFirst of all, Abel started it. He was here for it, you were the one being difficult. And howâs that not taking it seriously? Sharing is caring but you got all closed off!â
He dropped the sullen act in favour of nodding at her again, looking peaceful â a rare fact. âOf course I do. Why would I lie to you? Iâll only come to your office for actual work⌠things. That you do.â Alright, but for a psychologist-to-be, Sage could really lack clear vision when it came to herself. Rolling his eyes, Eden shot her a look, patting her knee. âDimiâs one of us, you donât freak him out. Other people donât care because theyâre judgemental and we donât fucking need them. Youâre smart, youâre kind, youâre funny, and I gotta say that face of yours is a nice bonus to wrap it all up, yeah? Itâs a miracle Abel landed you, and Iâm not surprised someone with good taste, like my boy, would be into you.â
"What are my questionable past times, Eden? Please, do tell! But I guess it doesnât matter since youâre nice to me. But you should try to be nicer to other people. Maybe itâs why people are afraid of you, but what do I know,â she rolled her eyes. She knew better than anyone that some of her own pasttimes were less than friendly but she couldnât exactly help it. âHis dad is the god of sex so I donât think we can blame him! Sorry I didnât want a threesome after knowing you for a week, loser.âÂ
Sage was a little surprised at the question and she stared with her mouth open for a second before shrugging her shoulder. âI donât know. I donât think you would like to me...thanks, Eden.â She shot him a warning glare as he patted her knee. âHow do you know that? He probably doesnât even know what Iâm capable of anyway!â She chewed on her bottom lip to keep from saying anything else but she looked down at her hands and twiddled her thumbs.Â
