I think it’s super important for young people to understand that being in a relationship is never all smiles and rainbows and fun times, that’s it’s normal to have arguments and doubts and difficult times, and that all perfectly healthy relationships can have ups and downs. And that it’s SO important to distinguish between those normal bumps in the relationship road and actual abusive behavior.

So many young people get into relationships and they are completely clueless about what to expect so we definitely need to reach our kids and young teens about ALL the different types of abuse and dating violence, not just physical. Being able to recognize when you’re being treated poorly is one of the first steps to getting help.
