So last night I finally beat Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete. It has taken so many years and honestly I didn't realize I didn't beat it until last night.
When I bought it in the late 2000/early 2001 when it came out in the US, I struggled with the Black Dragon Fiend and I think eventually moved on in life (I was 11. I remember around that time like my first baby sister also put pennies in my PlayStation thinking it was like a piggy bank. It was in the area where the laser reads the disc and you could hear them in there when you moved the console. I called it a Penny Station afterwards. She was born in late 1999 and was a toddler and didn't know any better, but my PS stopped working because of that so it may have just been that she broke my PS and that was why I stopped.)
When I was older, my brother sold all my PS games for drug money and at some point I had a laptop so I believe I downloaded a rom and emulator. I remember getting up to the final battle and struggling in the second/third form. But I was in college (didn't own a laptop before then) and didn't have time to play any games really. So I probably went back to college after a break and stopped
After buying the game I again, I remember showing it to my (now) spouse and again, got stuck on Zophar. I don't know why I stopped trying. Grad school probably? I actually want to see if I have the file in a memory card somewhere because I'm curious why I was struggling. I think I remember having issues with items and resources at that point in the game.
Then I bought Lunar Remastered. Beat the first game easily (I've played it so much!) and then moved on to the second. Work has been hard so I took a break at the end of the summer. Picked it up the last two weeks when I was sick. Blew through the Black Dragon Fiend which surprised me. Game's going quite well. Last night, did Zophar's domain and I got a bit nervous at the final battle. It only took me three tries to do it. I was kinda shocked. But I remember when I got to the fourth stage I was like "wait, I definitely don't remember this part...." I think because I watched one of the ending cut scenes between Hiro and Lucia, I just ASSUMED I beat it? But apparently I didn't. I know because I never saw this epilogue before and I never saw these other cut scenes. How did it take me almost 26 years to beat a game in a series I love??
I have made two cosplays of Luna from the first one. I remember coloring my white dresser with a drawing of Lucia and like a dark blue background back in 2000 (which pissed off my mom ofc) because I loved the game. I listen to the music so much and I remember trying to convince my band director in 6th grade to let us play music from the game (not really understanding that like... They typically have books of music scores for different instruments that they get from places). I remember trying to make Lucia's red hat out of cardboard, paper mache and paint.
How have I only just beat this game 26 years later?? Thank you Lunar Remastered for allowing me to play it again and finally finishing the main story. I will definitely go on to play the epilogue. I am excited!
Anyway, I may try to work on a Lucia cosplay. I love her red and black outfit but I think for Dragon Con I'd die in the heat. Maybe I'll try to make her other outfit which would be significantly cooler (temp wise) but not as cool (imo).
If you haven't played Lunar, please do! Some scenes may be... A bit off but in general just a great series of games.
'Lunar 2: Eternal Blue'
[PS1] [JAPAN] [MAGAZINE] [1999]
"The PlayStation versions include a variety of features that were added after the Saturn version was released. The PlayStation versions feature one more cutscene than the Saturn version does. In the Saturn version, the first ending was simply still screens, while it is fully animated on the PlayStation versions. A number of bromides were added, and all bromides display at a higher resolution than in the Saturn version. The Saturn version contains two new dungeons, while the PlayStation version adds an additional two, with a host of extra monsters and items to attend them.
The packaging for the PlayStation game contained poster of the cover art on one side, and a map on the other, along with a hardcover instruction booklet, paper standee's of the characters, and a large replica of Lucia's pendant." ~Lunar Wiki

And that makes two. After awakening the White and Blue dragons, only the Red and Black. Although something tells me I probably should've gotten the Red Dragon before the Blue one? I had thought rescuing the Black one would had been the last, but I guess I'm wrong.
So currently I'm on Disc 2 of the game, and am very anxious to finish it sometime soon.

🖤🙈 some more instrumental bangers from a couple cool old jrpgs ... Iykyk
John Truitt was really good as Ghaleon in the original Lunar games but honestly Keith Silverstein kills it too. The only issue I have is whenever Ghaleon shows up, I'm like "yeah yeah you want Ladybug and Cat Noir's miraculous. I got it."
I always have to quote this scene (spoilers obviously)
