I've skimmed a couple dozen pages of the blog now, but have seen no mention of Jay and Silent Bob. They specifically refer to each other as "hetero life partners"; it's not even headcanon, just canon!! :)
For people who don't know what to call a partner in a QPP, especially if you're like me and can't take "zucchini" seriously: I like the term companion. The word implies a trusting relationship with each other that goes beyond simple friendship, but has no romantic implications. It's somebody you'd go on an adventure with and spend time together because of a mutual love for each other.
Why wasn’t friendship as good as a relationship? Why wasn’t it even better? It was two people who remained together, day after day, bound not by sex or physical attraction or money or children or property, but only by the shared agreement to keep going, the mutual dedication to a union that could never be codified.

Since the ask box is off...
Okay, so I'm doing a submit since the ask box is off. Usually I wouldn't go out of my way to contact someone when they actively are not taking asks, but I really needed to say this. I just found this blog and just learned about the term queerplatonic like 10 minutes ago. I'm in a qpr and I'm getting married to my qpr partner on Friday. Finding this blog is a really big deal for me, because I feel incredibly validated now. I didn't know there was a term. Now I can explain the nature of my relationship to someone else with proper terminology, which was really hard before. Thank you so much for spreading the information! Keep doing what you do!
what society needs to understand is that friendship and romance are not ranks, tiers, or levels. they are not above or below each other. romance is not a promotion. friendship is not a demotion. romance is not “more than” being friends with someone. friendship and romance are concepts that exist on equal terms, side by side. sometimes they happen to coincide. other times they never intersect at all. how relationships are classified is up to the individuals involved but like?? neither is inherently more or less valuable is the thing

I’ve closed the ask box for the time being. Sorry, it was getting overwhelming. I’ll let you know when it’s open again. Questions received before the closure will be answered in due course.
there should definitely be a queerplatonic equivalent to valentines day. can this please be a thing.
I believe that St Modomnoc’s Day (13th February) is sometimes considered this equivalent.
Hi would it be weird for siblings to be in a qpr?
Hi Anon,
It’s not impossible. I think many people conceive of familial love as different from friendship (and by extension in some quarters queerplatonic) love which would mean they wouldn’t think about having a QPR with a family member. However, if you understand your sibling relationship as queerplatonic then that’s a perfectly valid way to talk about it.
Pete and Myka in Warehouse 13 were totally in a QP together until the very last episode. They love each other very much, and Pete even suggested to Myka to a couple times that he would enjoy raising kids together. Too bad the show had to ruin that in the last episode. :c
You think sexualities and identities are little games?? Having a friend doesn't make you LGBT what kind of world you live in dude I mean straight ppl already think we're a joke :(
Hi Anon,
No, I don’t actually. I happen to be gay myself. But that is besides the point. You are correct in that having a friend or being in a QPR does not make one LGBT. The word “queer” in queerplatonic does not refer to the participants in the relationship but to the non-normative nature of the relationship itself.
I’m sorry that homophobia and heterosexism have hurt you so much to feel the need to lash out at others who have non-normative experiences. I hope you better understand the nature of QPRs now and feel less threatened by their celebration.
How are queerplatonic relationships remotely, well, queer?
The original coining of the word (which is linked in the FAQ) discussed why the term contains queer as a prefix. In summary though, the "queer" in "queerplatonic" references the "queering" (as in Queer Theory) of relationships. (Yeah, that's a lot of queer for one sentence.)QP relationships are non-normative in that they subvert the heteronormative and amatonormative expectations of society that one will marry an "opposite sex" sexual and romantic partner for life and produce children. Instead, the primary partnership is platonic (or at least non-romantic) and does not follow a script of dating, betrothal, marriage, children, death. As such, the people who coined the word, identified these relationships as being "queered" relationships and wanted to include that in the name. Some people are uncomfortable with using queerplatonic as their relationship descriptor. This is fine. Many of them choose other labels like "platonic life partnership" or "quasiplatonic relationship" etc. Others may not label their relationship at all but are aware of the non-normativity of it.Your mileage may vary but that is why "queerplatonic" includes the word queer.
Putting two OC's in a QP relationship together = /Fuck yes./
Glad you’re enjoying yourself!
star and marco from star vs the forces of evil are definitely qpps. honestly, i can really only see them as qp rather than in an romantic relationship.
Thanks for your headcanon!
Do you ask someone to become your QP or how does it work?
Sometimes people ask to become QPs, sometimes the relationship develops on its own and the parties involved find a label later. It varies.
