First Cap Fulfills Childhood Dream (x)

Even before becoming a world renowned goalkeeper and member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Ashlyn Harris was used to taking home silverware during her youth days growing up in Florida and even played her club soccer on boys teams until she was 14. Harris’ biggest achievement in her career would come much later, however, and the prize wasn’t a trophy almost as tall as her; it was a cap, her first cap.

Harris earned her first cap with the full WNT on March 11, 2013 in a 1-1 draw with Sweden in the Algarve Cup. However, this was no ordinary first cap, Harris battled and rehabbed through a collection of injuries that would have ended the careers of less determined athletes. The severe injuries couldn’t stop her though as Harris turned in a brilliant second half effort to keep the score equal against Sweden and help put the WNT in the Algarve Cup final.
